CDI Electronics - 174-9710K1 174-9710K 1 Mercury/Mariner Stator - 2/3/4 Cyl. 16 Amp (1987-1997)

The stater worked great on my 1994 mariner, 75hp two stroke. I’m completely restoring a 1995 bass tracker TX 17 getting the old motor to Run was the first step so it is only been ran on motor flashers a total of two hours so not sure how long it will last but hopefully as long as the original. The stater looks well-made and as the same gauge wiring as OEM and all the wiring is the same colors. This made in a very easy plug and play component.

NOTE: Per the CDI web site, they will not provide free technical support to DIY buyers. They do provide paid support to those customers. Also, warranty is provided only through marine repair shops and not DIY-ers. My 1995 Mercury 115 was not starting after it warmed up and you shut it off. Then it just wouldn't start at all. I checked all the fuel lines and replaced the gaskets in the fuel pump; no difference. I knew the compression was good so the only thing left was spark. Using my shop manual I did some resistance tests but they weren't any help at all so I took a stab in the dark and bought this stator along with a CDI switch box (power pack). I installed everything according to the instructions included and now I'm back in business.

I only purchase CDI or original Mercury parts for my 1996 Mercury 115 2-stroke verses much cheaper copies which have flooded the market whose quality is inconsistent. I have purchased many stators, triggers, switchboxes and coils for various outboards over the years and CDI has never failed me.

Worked perfectly.

Looks very different from the original stator on my 1995 mercury 115 ELPTO. The coils are exposed on this new stator and not encapsulated in plastic like the original stator. The reviews I read mentioned CDI does this for heat dissipation. The wires have plug ends that don't fit into the U-shaped terminals they give you and there are no protective boots that cover the nut and ring terminal when you connect the wire to the switchbox. Fortunately, I had some ring terminals that the plug ends fit securely. I painted a couple of coats of liquid electric tape over the ring terminals and nuts and was good to go. It has been three weeks since I did It and had the boat out twice with no issues. Starts easier and idles smoother too.

Ordered the stator for 1992 50 horsepower Mercury motor, Also ordered voltage regulator rectifier. The stator fit perfect and works great. Came with wiring directions. Pretty easy to install.

I bought this unit in March 2025 as as spare part for an old mercury powered ski boat that i keep on an island. I thought it would be good to have a backup as these can really affect how the old outboards run. Long story short is after one full season of pulling water skiiers in a secluded lagoon - the original was ok so i havent used this one yet. My problem is with the pricing. I paid $614 CAD last year for this. Now when i was doing another search for something else needed on another engine i notced this... Now $332 CAD. What a horror show. Maybe i should rate myself one star for buying this overpriced 6 year old's science fair project for over $600. I can't tell if it works or not as i haven't needed it. It probably works ok. But did notice the connectors will not work as is, it is not plug and play for the 115 4 cylinder Merc as you will need to mess with the connectors. The guague of wiring is also smaller than stock. Wow. I guesss i can only blame myself for being proactive with spare parts. Boaters are typically gouged. Beware.
