Gets in tight spaces. A good job.
I like this mouse to get done if the tight spaces. Good value and does a good job. Easy to change the sanding papers and it’s easy to grip. My hands are kind of small but it was fine for me. Not too heavy. One without a cord is probably nicer to use but mine has a cord and it’s fine.

Detail sander used for deck, arbor, railings
This is my third B&D “mouse” sander, they all were easy to hold, aim and control, and do the jobs I need really well. When you refinish doors, moldings, etc you want a larger sander to cover a lot of area, but for a slightly uneven deck with boards convexed or concaved you need a sander that can follow the contour of the wood and the mouse does that really well. Yes there are more expensive detail sanders out there, but the B&D ones give the best product for the buck. The grip is soft foam and when used with cloth work gloves sufficiently dampens vibration that my carpal tunnels don’t bother me. Using 60-120 grit paper and light pressure, I only need to go over a spot 5-10 x to reach bare wood thru 4 costs of Olympic semi transparent stain. Now a mouse only lasts me about 5 years for about 3-500 hours of sanding, but a heavy metal competitors sander would never allow me to hold it up over my head to do railing spindles and arbors because they are too heavy yo keep working hour after hour. When they finally fail, I assume the brushes wear out, because you need to shake the unit you try to start it and in some orientations it will not start. In older units the long finger attachment was flush to the rest of the sanding bed, but on the newest one the finger is raised perhaps 3/16” higher, this is a bad thing from my standpoint because you need to be taking the finger on and off to complete a job. The Velcro sanding pads hold the paper well and make for a. Quick, no tools style of change. I find the new units slide switch difficult to turn on and off with dusty gloves on, the older style push button/rocker switches were easier to use but we’re located in a poor place at the extreme front of the housing where it was likely to get bumped when you tried to sand railing spindles. The newer location on the handle is better for resisting accidental shot offs. If there were one improvement I’d like to see in the next design, it would be a sander that is flatter to the sandpaper so I can reach farther between railing spokes and in tight spaces without being constrained by the handle.

Don't let the size & shape fool you. This little work horse does a killer job sanding! 💕
Update: Mar 14, 2021. Started a new project and the mouse has started to shed! I don’t know how long they are suppose to last, but this was “Ordered on July 5, 2018”. I removed a star for the mouse starting to shed rubber on the back left side. It still performs like a champ. Still a great product HUSBAND: What’s in the box? ME: My new Mouse sander! HUSBAND: What are you going to sand with that little thing? ME: Wait and see… I almost took a pass on this opting for the circular model, but discovered many DIY selfers working with furniture and chalk paint recommended this sander. I didn’t want to spend much and the price tag convinced me. It was Black+Decker after all. It would become my first sander. I am not a professional craftsman by any means. I’m not even a hobby or DIY craftsman. I am the “tired of looking at that” craftsman who decides to do something about it. I admit it, the mouse is cute! It fits my small hand and is not heavy to work with when sanding large areas (I fractured my wrist a few years back so weight can become an issue when working with some tools). My earlier projects were limited to sanding patched areas on my walls (5 stars Mousey), but recently I decided to tackle something a little larger and more challenging… the bathroom vanity. The cabinet is an old “vintage” oak vanity that comes with buying an old house. The more you look at it and spend time on Pinterest, the more you learn to hate it. I wanted to update to a more modern rustic look and a new paint job and hardware would get me there. Not only was the Mouse easy to use and maneuver around and in to crevices, corners, curves and dips, but the motor was strong enough to reveal that my “wood” vanity was NOT all wood. Yep, sanded off that faux wood veneer to find either pressboard or particle board underneath. The only wood was the face frame and doors. Yuck! On the other hand, the mouse did me proud and held up well. No sore wrists, cramped hands or hot motor. The dust attachment is OK. It fills but takes a little getting used to when it comes to emptying. On the other hand, I expected to have dust everywhere and was not disappointed since it’s hard to sand without it. What is pure genius is the velcro solution to changing sandpaper sheets, it was easy on and off. Once on, the sheet stays in place for the job. One P80 sheet completed the cabinet with changing to the P220 for smoothing out. Cabinet now sanded smooth and ready to prime. Overall, this is a great little work horse for the price. P.S. Husband now uses the Mouse for most of his projects. It may not look “manly” but it does get the job done.

Light weight and easy to use sander.
I was looking for a sander that was light but powerful and accurate. Finished sanding a table in one secession. This Black and Decker sander fit perfectly. Easy to use especially with the dust collection part. Good price for the product.

Highly recommend it!
Love this sander. I used it to smoothen/flatten a drywall area for hanging smooth wallpaper. It worked beautifully! I’m using it now to sand some hard wood shelving, prior to priming and repainting. (I tried a heavy-duty, professional sander that my husband had, but it was tough for me to handle or control it. I got it on Black Friday sale last year, but would pay full price, it’s worth it.
