A godsend in the heat wave
This AC unit has been a life saver. We bought a very good air cooler last year but it was really was just a glorified fan. Unless using both ice packs in water that's been chilled in the fridge, plus a bunch of ice cubes, it wan't particularly effective after the first half an hour. This coupled with the fact that we've got a fairly small home office which runs a minimum of 2 PCs and 4 monitors each day and is in full sun for the majority of the day, meant it just wasn't working for us. I was put off by the price of an AC unit but finally relented and I just wish I'd given in sooner. It's an absolute game changer. It allowed us to not only make our little office bearable in the heat wave of 2022 but actually super pleasant. We were able to continue working when other remote working colleagues had to stop and be "sent home for the day" as it were. As for negatives, it IS fairly loud, but it's not really that much louder than the air cooler we had or regular fans. It is quite big. I think this was among the smallest we looked at though. You get used to it eventually but it does take up a bit of space - more so given you have to pull it out from the wall to attach the pipe. The pipe really is not very long, 1.5m I think, so you do have to have the unit quite close to a window. As far as I can see there's no way to order a longer version, an extension, or even a replacement if the supplied one is damaged. This really is the biggest negative for me. And of course it doesn't come with a universal window adapter, those need to be ordered separately. Despite those negatives, they really are outweighed by how good this thing is and what a difference it's made to our comfort and ability to work in our little office during the summer. It also works as a regular fan and a dehumidifier to boot. I'm glad it has a fairly high efficiency rating as I'm sure it costs a fair bit to run, especially with the cost of living and energy crisis kicking off, but we only run it when the temperature is getting a bit too much during the summer so it's a cost I'm happy to bear. Can't put a price on personal comfort when working.

Loud, but cold.
It is loud, no denying that, but it does the job and kicks out icy cold air. We haven't had any extreme heat to really put it to the test, but we've had a few warm nights and I've inatantly noticed a big difference when I've tested it out. Our bedroom is 3rd floor, south facing, 4x4m. No concerns about it doing a good job when I really need it to. First time I switched it on it made an awful squealing noise, but I think it just needed time to settle after I'd moved it around. I left it 24 hours before trying again and that noise had gone. I use the low fan speed in cool mode and find the noise and cold air similar to cranking up the AC in my car. It feels freezing cold to stand right in front of it. It does seem really loud at first but you do kinda get used to it and drown it out. It's worth it for the cool breeze whne you really need it. The fan noise is constant, but the compressor which cools the air cuts in and out every so often. Again, you get used to it, but its like a super loud heavy duty fridge. A low, rumbling, loud, rhythmic humming. If you want anything quieter you'll need a professionally installed wall AC unit with an external compressor for ยฃ1.5k and above. For ยฃ300 I really can't complain. It's pretty big, but looks good. It's heavy, but moves well on wheels, even on carpet. I actually lifted ours up on top of a chest of drawers to get it closer to the window for the hose. Had to buy a 3rd party window kit but setup was all pretty straight forward. Overall I'm happy with it and looking forward to bringing those extreme temperatures down in the height of summer.

Worth it, 6 years without issue.
I've had mine for a few years now. I bought it for the kitchen, although I don't use it a lot because exhausting it is an issue. I have indoor cats and can only open the window for the hose when I'm around to supervise. My windows are outward opening with side hinges so window kits are useless. I use it mostly for a quick cooldown after cooking or when the sun is especially strong. I don't use the dry setting at all - it pumps out warm air, which I've seen described as a dehumidifier setting (my Meaco dehumidifier doesn't do this. It simply sucks the moisture from the air and dries laundry in hours. No noticeable heat output at all). The fan setting works as intended. Nice when you're standing in the stream of air, otherwise no effect. The cool setting, or the air conditioner, is brilliant (just as good as my bigger, more expensive AEG ac which very effectively cools down a south-east facing living room). I've never had leaking issues or sound issues. If you set it to the lowest temperature, which is 17 degrees, it stays on. If you set it higher then you will hear it coming on and going off to keep the room at that temperature (my AEG also does this - it's not a fault or a problem unless you deem it to be). These things work hard, they are not going to be whisper-quiet. It's heavy, although I can just about it lift it up to place on the kitchen worktop. It does have a very generous exhaust hose and power cable (both considerably longer than the AEG), and in all I would recommend it. The only negative I've found is that you can't lock the digital display on top and there have been some occasions when one of my cats has jumped onto it and accidentally changed the mode from fan to cool when the exhaust hose hasn't been connected - hot air being blown around your kitchen is not what you need during a heatwave. As an afterthought, I would advise anyone with this ac (or any portable ac) to buy an insulation cover for the hose as they do let some heat leech out without one.

Quality product, quiet and cools air very well.
None of these single hose portable air conditioners will do a great deal as the air they cool and discharge in the room is being replaced with an equal amount of warm humid outside air coming into the room because of the condenser hot air exhaust. But it does well enough and having FIVE 9,000btu units from four different manufactures at home, you get to see the slight differences between them. This gets points on the more robust design, the really nice remote that is intended to be the main control of the unit and the fact the fan motor and compressor are quiet. The main noise is just air flow as it moves vast volumes of air rapidly. I also own a fridge made by this company and it has performed well for over three years now. If you have very high humidity then you will need to empty the internal water tank as the condensate water will be too much to evaporate out the hot air exhaust. It does not come with a sliding window kit and the hose does not have a reducer adaptor as many do for windows, but Iโve been using mine overnight in a bedroom simple stick a pillow case with some masking tape around the window hole and it does enough. Great price and truly does consume the power claimed and cools as promised.

Quiet, powerful and extremely effective.
We bought this unit last year and used it all summer long. This year we have been using it for the last week after storing it in the loft over winter. When turn on, it does make a noise (obviously) but it is NOT that loud. Put another way, the kids still fall asleep without any drama. The sheer quantity of cooling is VERY impressive. So much so we now set ours at 19 degrees so as to not get the room too cold. Even on the hotest day it is capable of bringing the room temperture down from 38 degress to 17 degress. The unit is not small but then again it is not huge. Just remeber to allow for space at the back to route the exhaust. Things to note..... Despite it's size, the unit is heavy. I would certainly recommend using two people to move it up or down stairs and absolutely two (maybe even nthree) three if going up a ladder intoor out of a loft. The exhaust pipe (as supplied) will act as a heater due to the hot exhaust air flowing through it. Last year we covered it in towels. This worked but not brilliantly. This year I have used some acoustic/insulted ducting which is a massive improvemnet. In conclusion, it is not cheap but it is VERY effective and quiet. We can now sleep at night without any of the grief caused by having a hot bedroom. And as its portable, you can move it to another room during the day should you so wish.

Didn't work for me
I believe it was my mistake. The product itself seems good and I read good reviews before purchasing, and don't get me wrong, it is a good product, but you need to ask yourself if you need one of these in your house. This portable units (very heavy although has wheels so no problem in one floor house) work absolutely fine while plugged, cold air flows straight away the moment you turn it on, but the second you turn it off, the room temperature goes back to where it was, or even hotter (is that even possible??). Having the machine plugged in the whole time/night would not be an issue but it is definitively very noisy (I'll say 5x the sound of a standard fan at the lowest setting) . So definitively something to take into account. I have had it for one year and it did not work for me, but as I say, because it wasn't the product I needed.

Quality Control Issues
I've now bought and returned 2 of these. The first one made a horrific banging sound (like the fan inside was hitting something) and could tell it was faulty (this might explain all the reviews of it being very noisy). So sent that back and ordered another in the hope it was a one-off. The 2nd one was much better and operated fairly quietly as expected. The cooling was excellent, but then I got the P1 error code after about 1hr of continual use. I emptied the unit - which is a major hassle as you have to lift the whole thing onto something to get it above a bowl/bucket - and tried again, but same thing happened again and again. Sent this one back and just going to pay a little extra and get something from one of the major high-street retailers. Either there is terrible quality control for these units, or they are just repackaging up the returned models and sending them out again... In fairness to Amazon, the returns process was simple and straightforward, with someone coming to collect both units on the next business day.

Simple, effective (if a bit basic) - Great value for small rooms.
I've been using the Inventor Chilly 9000 BTU portable air conditioner for nearly five years, and overall it has been a solid little unit, especially for the price. Itโs ideal for cooling a small room and does a reliable job of keeping the space comfortable during warmer months. It's a fairly basic unit with just two fan speeds and no automatic air swing etc. Noise-wise, it's fairly quiet however the condenser/compressor fan (I think) doesn't stop when the compressor cycles off, so when it is not conditioning (i.e. at the right temperature) or on fan mode it isn't as quiet as some models. The build quality reflects the price. The unit still functions well after several years, but the adjustable vents don't always stay aimed in the right direction (they can droop). As it's a few years old and a budget unit thatโs understandable, but worth noting. If you're looking for an affordable and straightforward portable AC for a small room, the Chilly 9000 is a good option.
