Horrible experience!
Removed from new box, set up, charged, went back in 20 minutes, total black screen showing and a red line saying "to warm" overheating. How could be it over heating when it's setting on cold granite in a house that's 66deg and it's in the middle of winter here?Turned it off, this time since it was 88% charged, decided not to charge it and see what happens. Left on cold granite and again without the charger it did the same thing, BLACK SCREEN, "over heating".This has happened each time we leave it set, come back Black Screen, over heating and it's not even being charged!I don't understand how a 3rd party can send out product and not at least test it. Vius?Email from Vius: Stephen how was your experience? So I bought my wife a gift since she's been so kind to me lately, spent $400+ dollars including ipad, case, glass, and I have a defected product right out of the box. Horrible experience!

Be aware of the model that you order
I ordered and paid for a 4th generation I-Pad with retina and received a 2nd generation I-Pad from Amazon. The two I-Pads look identical and the only reason I caught the difference was the charger cord. The 4th generation uses a smaller plug compared to the 2nd generation. Amazon was called immediately about the screw up wherein the correct I-Pad was mailed via Fed-X with one day delivery to me. I sent the 2nd Generation back and shipping was paid by Amazon. My credit card was debited twice until Amazon rec'd the 2nd Generation I-pad back. Once my credit card rec'd the credit there was a note that it had been returned because of being shipped late. This was obviously not the reason and couldn't be further from the truth.Just be aware that a 2nd Generation I-Pad looks the same as the 4th Generation with the exception of the charger plug. Make sure you check the model of your I-Pad found in the settings area. The 2nd Generation cost less than the 4th Generation by a couple hundred dollars.

Wish I didn't have to give one star
Purchased this iPad. When I turn it on, a tiny message appears on the top left of the screen stating " no SIM. " It was supposed to be Verizon ready. However, without a SIM card the only wifi I could pair it with is my home wifi. When I wrote to the seller, via Amazon, I just received the default message from Amazon, but never heard from the seller. Thinking they may be able to get my iPad up and running, I took the iPad to my local Verizion store. The agent said there was nothing they could do because it was only compatible with AT&T or Sprint. Not Verizon as advertized. Now I don't know what to do, because the seller will not contact me.

Duped
I bought this under the assumption that it was "new" in every way. It was a Christmas gift for my daughter who is starting nursing school shortly. She just took it yesterday to have it linked to her Sprint account and was told that this iPad was one of the first iPads produced (in other words, a dinosaur) and then also found that someone else's name and phone number was already entered into the iPad so obviously, it was a USED iPad. I am furious! I paid over $400.00 for it and it is probably worth half that amount an old and used iPad. Shame on you!

A beautiful and elegant machine. Well built, great functionality, compact.
After years of resisting the tablet craze, I finally picked up an iPad 4 (black, 16GB). I bought it as more of a toy than anything else, but I've found myself using it more and more as a tool for word processing and research. As a biologist, I do my best to stay on top of academic research, and I have found a few apps that streamline the storage and organization of academic PDFs. It's great to be able to read journal articles in full color and HD, zoom in on figures, and annotate while on the move. I still tend to prefer hard copies, but my goodness, it's much easier to carry around 500 10-page articles when they're digital. The built-in Newstand app is where my Science and Nature subscriptions appear, and sadly in that environment your options for interacting with content are more limited. I am also a photographer, but while I appreciate having another device on which to view my photos I much prefer to work with them on my Macbook in Lightroom or a similar program. There are some surprisingly powerful and useful apps for photographers on the app store but none of them are going to hold up to a good photo editing suite on a laptop. As for the nuts and bolts, if you like Apple products than you know what to expect. Very streamlined build quality, excellent battery life as long as you aren't watching endless Netflix episodes or similar, and an easy, pleasing user experience all the way around. This model doesn't have some of the bells and whistles of newer versions (touch ID) but the retina display is excellent and responsive. The speakers are surprisingly good for such a compact device. I do recommend a good screen protector and case. One criticism I have (mentioned by some other reviewers) is that stylus use on Apple products, including this iPad, is severely limited. You can buy styluses but they all have enormously thick, bulbous and squishy heads. The iPad simply will not register any object that touches the screen if it has a diameter of less than 2mm (I believe that's the number), which means that the sturdy, precision-tipped styluses you might find for a Samsung product or Wacom will not work on Apple devices. I've been told that Steve Jobs thoroughly disapproved of styluses and wanted the user to interact directly with Apple products instead of through a tool. Personally, I'd rather he left us the choice, and I hope this issue will be addressed somewhere down the line. If you're an artist or a graphic designer like my father, it's frustrating not to have a more precise tool with which to interact with the tablet, and it limits the kinds of projects you can undertake. App developers have tried to compensate for this, so far without much success.

Used. Was advertised as NEW. $267!
This iPad was NOT advertised as used or refurbished. I got one with noticeable wear and tear. I turned it on, and immediately it started setting itself up - chose French as the language. I finally was able to set up with my information and connected it to my Apple ID. Then it went glitchy again. Wouldn’t let me close web pages, apps, and it kept opening the App Store and selecting different apps. The retina box kept opening and closing at will.... it was like a poltergeist was operating it! I called Amazon, and they promptly refunded me! THANK YOU AMAZON! Do NOT buy from here.

WOW
Amazing...using it from 1 month and the experience is really great. The wifi reception is low when it is in ios 7. But now the wifi reception is fine when upgrading to ios 8.0.2. Dont know exactly its the ios issue or what.but overall it works like a carm. Most of the basic application and games are available for free as the case of andriod. Editing document is fairly easy in 9.7 inch screen and its too smooth. The 16GB is really less storage for installing decent no. of games and Apps. Hope to get some extra space.I got it in 22k with Rs. 1250 cash back (still didnt receive). At this price range its the best option for 10 inches tablet.
