Genius DVR-FHD590 Full HD Vehicle Video Recorder with 128-Degree Wide Angle and G-Sensor

I own 3 other cameras and so far this is my favorite. You can read what the others have said about the specs so I'm not going to repeat them . I like this camera because the video is clear. You may read some of the plates, especially if your freeze the frame but I don't think any dash cam really lets you but that's not why you buy a dash cam. Being a police accident investigator for 30 plus years I like the wide angle because I want to see where a car etc. is coming from and this just may help in an accident. There is no distortion in the wide angle lens and you really can't get the concept of how clear the video is here but it is along with the colors. I like the snapshot feature and the emergency feature as well. The unit is small and you can pull it off and take it with you so you don't advertise it to thieves. I would, if you plan on keeping it purchase the Square Trade protection plan as an added safety net should anything happen to it after the one year warranty, in fact I have to check mine because I think it covers drops and spills, etc. I just had a camera battery die and they covered it, so spend the extra $14(?) for 2 extra years. The footprint is small and I like that, it also can swivel around should you get stopped and already have used it in a road rage incident and played it back to the troopers, so that was worth it alone. I'll try to upload a video but youtube plays it better. [...] Comes with a simple video editor to upload your videos to youtube, which I did here. Who needs all those other bells like gps, etc. You just need it to video the driving and occasional meteor fireball! UPDATE 12/2016 Still working perfect and recently was hit in the rear while driving on rte. 80, it showed the impact and my audio response even though it was forward facing. The other insurance company gave me crap about paying out until I sent them the video and then had no issues getting my truck fixed. Has worked flawlessly for the almost 2 years I have had it and I bought it for $124 but now see it is $39, so I'm getting another one for the wife. I have also used it to video a couple of road rage issues and used it to video a tractor trailer that cut me off without warning sending me into the median, sent that video to the trucking co. who appreciated me sending it. Also, very useful when you have those issues with rude police officers and I myself am a retired Captain and now see how these new Facebook cops do what they shouldn't be doing.. Your wife and kids will appreciate you looking out for them and so will your insurance company. There have been posts that say their video freeze up and that's because the SD card needs formatting now and then so I do this every 2 weeks and have never had an issue as some posters have stated. All in all....this is a great camera, only wish it had a GPS locator where you could see it on Google maps along with your speed. If it had this like the Bulls i camera it would be even better. Try it because if you don't like it you can return it, but it again, has been great.

I purchased one about a year ago and now it's worked GREAT since then with Zero problems! I've waited that long to post my review to be sure my review will be as accurate as possible. I'm an over the road truck driver and after a near death experience when I was mauled by 2 Great Danes at a rural delivery and almost bled to death after fighting them like boxing 2 large men in the middle of nowhere, I decided to have proof for future reference. Plus many close calls on the road with idiot 4wheelers on the roads, and other close calls, this has helped me out so many times. The video, sound, and overall quality and operation is flawless! Plus it deters the few crooked troopers wanting to DOT inspect that can't find anything wrong with your truck or trailer, but keep looking almost 2 hours for something to write you up for and shut you down. Yes, that's happened several times. Krispy Kreme doughnuts in the dash don't work anymore..... So I just purchased another one Friday, paid for 2 day guaranteed Sunday delivery, and it was delivered this morning! Now I can get all my mirrors and ALL angles, and with the "National Screw A Trucker Inspection Week" coming up next week, let's see how much corruption goes on video. I've also ran it non stop 24 hours all week long night and day Monday thru Friday with no problems. I HIGHLY recommend this dash cam for all professional drivers and anyone who wants top quality out of a dash cam and not have to spend $100's more. It is FLAWLESS! I love this Genius DVR-FHD590. It totally beats Cobra any day.

First of all everyone was complaining about getting the 550 version but im pretty sure they fixed this issue already. I ordered mine on 11-29-13 and got the 590 version. Actually the camera arrived 2 days later. I was thinking about getting a GoPro for a dash cam but they are just way too expensive for me. I had been looking around for a cheaper dash cam but $25 was too cheap and $200 was too much. I came across this one somehow and saw how good the footage was on youtube. Its not the best but for $100... it was just right and the interface was simple and easy to use. You don't even have to read the manual, tho the manual is useless anyway. The camera is about the size of a GoPro but thinner and a tad lighter. It is threaded on the top and bottom so you can mount it using any tripod upright or upside down. Daytime footage looks very nice and night time (in city) is okay. It has a mini HDMI port on the camera but does not come with the cables. It can take still photos and 5MP by pushing one of the buttons. The editing software it comes with is pretty basic but i noticed when i watch clips with anything other than the software player it comes with, there is no sound. I would have to edit it first for sound to play in any other player. Editing 2 clips or more together provides a nice smooth video with no glitches. It also comes with a window mount, similar to a GPS suction cup mount, and it holds like glue. Features: Full HD - 1080p/30fps or 720p/30fps. Not super clear to read license plates in the far distance but pretty darn clear. Records only in 3 min or 5 min intervals. 128 Degree view - This is not fish eye with a lot of distortion but enough to see beginning of side streets at an intersection. Focus - 1.5m - infinity Audio Recording - Also records your video in audio. Picks up everything in the car and conversation near your window but nothing further. Can be turned off. 2.4" LCD screen - You can watch what you're recording, review the footage, or turn the screen off to save battery. Not a touch screen. Time Stamp - All recordings can be date/time stamped. This can be turned off. Automatic Record - You can set the camera to record once you turn it on or when it senses voltage from the cig lighter. If you turn this off, you can start the recording manually by pressing one of the buttons. Emergency Recording - Footage is looped and replaced when you run out of memory but you can permanently save recordings with a push of a button to prevent it from getting replaced. Collision Detection - Camera has a shock sensor with 3 sensitivities to automatically start recording. I believe this footage is automatically saved as an emergency recording. Motion Detection - When camera is off and your car is parked, this can be turned on to start recording from any motion in the cameras view and i think in the cabin. LED Light - Comes with a really bright LED to probably help enhance night shots. Never used it but i heard ppl complain it reflected off the windshield... probably off dirty windshields. Built in Battery - Lithium-ion battery. Some ppl say it lasts about an hour recording with LCD screen off. Never tried it. My battery was toasted after about a year and runs soley off the cig plug now. I don't think the battery can be changed. Mounting Hardware - Comes with a super strong suction cup mount and tripod mount. Mount has a huge range of motion. Tripod mount can be mounted on the top or bottom of camera. Threads on both sides. Cigarette Lighter Adapter - Comes with Cig adapter with a mini USB plug. This is used to charge the unit or you could run the camera off of it. The cord is pretty long so you can route the wires out of your view. Memory - Doesn't have internal memory and uses a micro SD card up to 32 GB (class 4+ recommended & SD card not included). 32 GB equates to about 8-9 hours of footage. Night time footage seems to use less memory. Although it has a mini USB port, it does not come with connecting cables, only charging cable. Footage Files - Records only in 3 min or 5 min intervals but stitched together should come out smooth without notice. Plays with Windows media player, VLC player, and Quicktime. Files save as a .MOV when i play it with VLC but the file folder says file type as TMT3. Im not a computer guy so i dont know. Also comes with basic editing software (ArcSoft) and can be played in that. In all... This is an ideal dash cam with all the features you need and small enough not to obstruct your view. If i were to do it again... i would still buy it. 4 out of 5 stars because i know there are a lot better stuff out there, but at a cost. As of May 2015, still works like a charm... Besides the internal battery not holding a charge.

This is my second car DVR and I wish I'd have tried this one first. It just feels more solid and better made. 1080p (1920x1080) or 720p (1280x720) good quality for playback. The 2.4'' screen is nice for easy viewing. I'm not sure how long the battery lasts when not plugged in but I used it for a few minutes with the light on in the house and it still showed full charge. Power input is the old style micro usb plug so I guess it would work with a phone charger. It comes with a cigarette lighter plug. The other one would not play on my Macbook. This plays on Mac and PC. You do need a micro sd card. I'm using a 32 gig card. If you don't have a card reader for your computer, you can get an inexpensive USB reader that the micro sd card fits in to. Most laptops have a card reader but you may need an adapter that you can get with the sd card for just a little more.

This device does not work well at all. Installation was simple enough, but the device freezes at random times and will not power off. On one occasion, I had set the auto screen off function to 10 seconds. The device began recording correctly and screen shut of after 10 seconds like it was supposed to. At some point, the device froze and stopped recording. The red "recording" light remained on. The device would not power off using the power button or the reset button. Even after unplugging the device, it stayed powered on but frozen for an additional 10 minutes. The video that it did record was not coded correctly and was unplayable on any device. The 2nd day using the device, I was able to change the auto screen off feature to "always on" so I could better watch what the device was doing. In this instance, the device recorded the first 3 minute segment like it was supposed to, and began that 2nd file. At some point during the second segment, the device froze again, it showed an image on the screen that had occurred about 30 seconds prior. Again, the device would not respond to any buttons being pushed, including the power & reset buttons. Removing the power source did cause the device to shut off immediately. Several hours later, I used the device again, this time recording at night. The device stopped recording at the 1:30 mark, but continued to display what it was seeing on the screen. Again, the device would not respond to any buttons being pushed. After resetting the device again by removing the power source, the device recorded for 2 mins & 38 secs before completely freezing again and showing a past image on the screen. Pro's: - The device is simple & easy to use, when it works. - Lightweight - Easy to install - Video quality was clear for the most part. Was able to read the plate of vehicles in front of me when stopped at traffic lights. -Good Price Cons: - Froze a lot. Videos that were taken when it froze are unplayable - Doesn't do well with sunlight glare - Unable to use the device at all when plugged in to a computer - Wouldn't power on using battery power, even though the battery was fully charged

This "dash cam" works beautifully! It records crystal clear. There's no "bounce" in the playbacks in spite of all the bumps you hit on a typical road. I'm an outside salesperson and drive about 200 miles a day. I see a lot of weird things when I'm driving so I thought it'd be fun if I could record some of the silly things that I come across. That, plus if I ever had an accident, I'd have it recorded in case I had to defend myself. Easy to use, clear recordings, sets up in 5 minutes. The size of the unit is perfect and doesn't restrict your view. Doesn't come with a memory card which you will have to provide ($20) I'm 100% pleased and recommend this product. Gary, Bristol, Ct.

The reason I give it 3 stars is that after a year's use, I have to wait for it to "warm up" then restart it to get the screen going on. When startin the car the screen shows a partial black and white image being recorded. I have checked the memory and all the recordings are fine, its only an issue of the screen. The reason i say it need to warm up is the only time it starts correctly is when the car is in direct sunlight and burning hot. At night, you cannot see beyond 3 m from you lights, I wish this improved. The rest works fine, the menus are simple and easy. ANd once you install it you never have to check it again.

This is the best dashboard camera I’ve used. The picture is full HD, it is easy to mount. I bought 1, then I ordered 6 more. The first one is about 4 years old and it still works perfectly. I installed 2 in 2 other cars and I gave 1 to a friend who also likes it. I’m keeping 3 for future use.

Es un buen producto cumple con mi necesidad de tener un monitoreo de manejo y condiciones de trafico, sin embargo su batería es realmente mala, no dura ni 5 minutos de manera autónoma por lo que hay que conectarlo a la fuente de energía, recomiendan la forma de colocar el cable pero tiene mala imagen, así que en lugar de dañar partes del tablero, techo y vestiduras pues es mejor colocar el cable colgando, de todas maneras no es agradable a la vista.

No es HD como su reseña lo indica, su calidad disminuye con forme acaba la luz del día, se inhibe la pantalla, queda congelado y deja de grabar

I have to reset it every week or so. screen keeps on freezing up. my other one never did this in 4 years, this one seems to be a lemon
