I made it work by hooking rubber bands from the side bolts under the lever to hold the tension to keep the gauge in place. While it sounds a little Mickey Mouse, the gauges are actually a huge time saver especially if you are putting the siding up by yourself. If you are using pre-finished Artisan Hardie, the other tip I can give you is to slip a thin shim between the boards at the base of the gauge to lever the boards out a little when installing or removing the gauges. This keeps it from marking the boards and requiring touch up. I would definitely recommend these if you with the above provisions. **Q: Is the green one is plastic? Or aluminum** A: Plastic. They also are longer than these, which may or may not be good. The plastic has more adjustments as well, but these could be drilled to offer more possibilities.
