Q: I am constructing a champagne fountain... will this pump work for champagne?

the person answering that the lift should be greater than 3 feet clearly has no idea what they're talking about. this pump will not pump any liquid now than about a foot and a half. the amount of alcohol in champagne is negligible in terms of combustibility. so, to answer your question, yes it will work, although it is not food grade so really shouldn't be used within something that's meant for human consumption. however, it will pump very slowly at 1.5 feet height. anything taller than that will not work at all.

Q: Is anyone using this as a replacement pump for a Pioneer Pet fountain (the Big Max, for instance)?

After looking at videos of the Max drinking fountain I would say no this pump would not work. This pump has a thick 3 wire cord and the Max I saw on the videos appeared to have only 2 wires and a transformer that plugged into the wall, this pump is direct 110 volts out of the wall. I have found 2 wire pumps without the need for a transformer but I have no way of knowing if any of them would work for you.

Q: What size tubing do I need for a 12 inch tall fountain?

Tubing has internal and external measures (to account for the thickness of the tube). You need 1/2 inch internal tube to connect to the pump. The pump comes with an adapter that allows you to attach smaller tubing (1/4 inch) to the 1/2 inch tubing. Either way you need the 1/2 inch tubing to connect to the pump. The pump will have no trouble lifting water 12inches in either the 1/2 inch or 1/4 inch tubing.
