He is autistic, so he likes gifts that other kids wouldn't think of wanting. It works real well and actually looks quite good and expensive. BUT, the chime is on the louder side, so it takes getting use to, because it does chime every hour of the day. Having said that, it does have a feature where you can change the chime, and dampen it somewhat...or turn it off altogether I believe. But if you are going to turn it off, there is probably no need to buy this particular clock as the chime is it's main feature!
