what is the difference between the 3rd generation and regular iron?

I believe the only difference is that the 3rd generation has slightly longer plates than the regular iron. Neither of these flat irons are of the current generation, which is why they're being sold so cheaply. I think they must be a few years old, because if you look at the current 1-inch flat iron on HSI's website, it's slightly different and costs quite a bit more. That said, I bought the regular iron here and I could not be happier with it. It's everything I wanted. I can curl or straighten my hair, it doesn't burn, the temperature can be adjusted so easily. My only warning is that it doesn't have an automatic turn-off, so you need to be someone who can always remember to turn it off or unplug it.

Does it work well on African American or mixed curly hair?

I see many questions and reviews, but no one mentions which model they have. I am mixed with very thick and curly hair. I see two models that stand out on this product page. the $36.99 one and the $109 one. what are the differences other than the more expensive being digital controller? Is the $36.99 one good to get or is everyone purchasing the more expensive one?

Can you use this product in Europe?

No you cannot!!! Despite being clearly labelled as working OK with "120-250V" outlets, this is not the case. While on vacation in Europe my wife plugged it in to an outlet and it began sparking and almost caught on fire. This is a clear fire and safety hazard and this product should be pulled from the shelves.
