As far as I know the smokey flavor was depends on the fruit woods we used. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great product for smoking with a pellet smoker *by E***A on May 3, 2025* I have used this smoke generator with my Pit Boss 850 for almost a month now with 6 cooks topping 8+ hours. I use high quality pellets that help with a better smokey flavor but this smoke generator takes it to a new level of smokiness. Not the bitter smoke flavor from a smoking tube but that of a clean smoke from unprocessed wood.It is a well build product. Easy to install and use (once you figure out how to properly start it up). Basic clean-up is quick. It needs a deeper cleaning after 3-4 long cooks. I love that most of it is made in the United States of America. Unfortunately some of the smaller parts like the bottom cap for example are made in China.After a little trial and error and online videos I learned when you want to pair this generator with a pellet smoker just run it for 30 - 45 minutes before you start to get clean smoke. I just started the smoke generator first then pre-heating my smoker.One more tip. Instructions say you should check the wood chips / chunks every 2 to 2 1/2 hours. But at the beginning of a smoke check it after an hour. Sometimes it burns through a lot of wood at the very beginning as it settles in. For me after the second wood refill it was going 3+ hours before needing for wood. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ You will love it! *by J***. on September 10, 2018* Finally, I can get great smoke in my Weber Genesis gas grill. The grill is great, but every way I tried before to get decent smoke failed. The Big Kahuna solved that problem. Now I can get an hour or so of smoke from chips and chunks while cooking meats or I can leave the burners all off and cold smoke using just the Big Kahuna. In other words, it makes the smoke independent from the grill burners. You can use either heat or smoke or both.This opens up a whole new set of possibilities. Now I can even slow-cook ribs for hours and get lots of smoke flavor. Previously, to get smoke it required at least one of the burners to be on strongly and that is too much heat for something like ribs. Problem solved!The air pump works well as a boost to getting the smoke started and to control the burn inside the Big Kahuna.You can add more wood while smoking but you may want a pliers to take off the top as the knob on the top can get too hot to handle.Keep the knob that locks the bottom in place tight or the bottom and sparks could fall to the ground. I would not use this device over flammable surfaces without some protection and continual monitoring. Eventually I will fasten a metal drip pan close under the smoker to catch anything that falls and that should make it safer.This installed very easily in the Genesis by drilling a 1 1/8" hole in the aluminum back of the grill between two of the flavor bars near the center. It is at a very slight angle, but that is no problem. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works well with a few considerations *by T***M on May 17, 2024* I've had mine for a couple years now and use it for pulled pork, turkey, chicken and brisket on my Pit Boss pellet grill. I'm pleased with the results and would purchase again. I punched an appropriate sized hole on the right side of my grill for the smoke tube and keep the Smoke Daddy installed full time, regardless of whether it's in use or not. I've learned a couple things during my time with this product:1) Follow instructions regarding cleaning creosote out of the product, especially the smoke tube! I went too long between cleanings and wondered why performance was getting so poor until I found the smoke tube 95% blocked. After cleaning, performance went back to it's normal state.2) I was hoping to keep the pellet grill on low to perform a slow cook while applying smoke. Does not work as the grill blows outside air to keep the pellets lit which overwhelms the Smoke Daddy's air pump.
