King Jim Pomera DM100 English Guide, Black

This is the most amazing item imaginable, but not what I needed. Sorry 'bout that. I thought I was getting a unit that would replace my priceless old AlphaSmart word processor. It will do that, and much, much more. It will process English or Japanese, which blows me away that it can do that. But I don't need the Japanese part. I use a standard keyboard but this one is too small for my fingers, so I find it impossible to touch-type. It was my mistake. I should have read the reviews and description more carefully. It was obviously intended for note taking, not word processing of long texts. But, my daughter reads Japanese and fell in love with the machine. So it is now a gift to her.

I find myself using this more than my Surface, Macbook Air and any tablet bluetooth keyboard I own for straight up writing. It's no Alphasmart (the perfect keyboard ever made) but its ridiculously portable, has a feature set that is incredible (saves everything, put things into files, spreadsheet, one touch calendar/journal option, five lighthing conditions, tons of font sizes, lightweight, transferrable data via bluetooth ftp, QR code, plug in usb, OR SD card (all four ways are super easy). The keyboard takes about a week to get used to but once you do, it's the portable you're looking for. It's not something you're gonna necessarily use if you're at home and you have your pc and laptop right there but if you're on the go, its the perfect idea writer/novel writer/note taker. Many times I get an idea or see something/hear something that I want to jot down but i'm too lazy to go through all the hassle of turning on my computers and type in my password and open a word or Scrivener file or connect a keyboard to one of my tablets. With the Pomera, you just grab it, flip it open and start writing, then flip it closed. Distraction free, instant on (well 2-3 seconds) and battery life that you never have to worry about. Bit pricey for what it does but if you're a writer it's pretty indispensable. Added benefit of using it as a bluetooth keyboard pairing it with your phone is a nice touch if you have to write some work emails, chat with someone on hangouts, or do some facebooking.

I bought my Pomera just before I went on vacation, and I used it quite a bit to work on my writing. Best $200 I ever spent!Pros:- Password protection - If you're into doing journal entries, you can set a password prompt when the device turns on.- Boots in about 3 seconds.- Small - Fits right in my purse. Which is leagues better than writing on a laptop and constantly having to worry about it getting stolen.- Also does spreadsheets! I haven't explored what kind of spreadsheet formulas are supported yet, but it's handy in a pinch if you want to do some simple budgeting.- Light as a feather.- The screen is a basic, monochromatic LCD that has a matte finish, meaning there is ZERO glare and it works in every light level.- I used it a lot throughout my week-long vacation, and the battery power (two AAs) did not seem to drain in the slightest.- It auto-saves, and also turns on and off when you open or close the device, so you don't even have to use the power button. You can stow it quickly.- Because it saves in plain text (or something akin to it), the files take up virtually no space in the internal memory.Cons:- I was disappointed to discover that because I had set a password, I couldn't use the USB cable to connect to it via my computer. I'm sure there's a way to make that work, I just couldn't figure it out (ended up using an SD card instead to access the files)- The keyboard layout is slightly different from a regular American keyboard. If you write fiction, you'll be annoyed to find that not only is the apostrophe not in the typical place, but the quotation marks are also in a different place, above the 2. However, I just type normally and do a search and replace later. There might be a way to remap keys, I just haven't figured it out yet.- The keyboard felt small, even for me, and I have small hands.It took some getting used to. However, after a period of time, I was fine with it.The Pomera is a prime example of how single-purpose electronic devices that do one thing really well (instead of several things in a so-so way) are still a good investment, especially if you want to avoid distractions and just read or write.Not all of us can avoid distraction stress by turning off the wifi.

タイトルの通り、24時間かけて書いた文章が消えました。ファイルを開いたところ、文章がすべて消えていました。使い始めから文章の末文がときどき消えることがあり、そのくらいならまあ良いかと使っていたのですが、まさか全文消えることになるとは思いませんでした。Twitterで検索をしてみたところ、ポメラのデータ消失はけっこう頻繁にあるそうです。文章を書く機能を専門の道具だというのであれば、その文章が消えるなんて、問題外でしかない

キータッチが軽いのが唯一不満かなDM-20からの買い替えですが、使い勝手はいいブルートゥースの起毛も便利です

前の折たたみタイプの方がモバイル性がよかったです。ただ、辞書とか簡単にアクセスできるので便利です。据え置きにはいいかもですが、本体に歪があるのか、片足が少し浮きます。品質のばらつきがあるのかもです。

20181221 追記。1年半ほど使いました。キースイッチが浅いため、入力深度によっては二重入力になるのがどうしてもタイプの技量的に改善できず、売却しました（12000円で売れました。人気あるね）。普段マジェスタッチの黒軸を使っているような人種は浅いキーボードとは相性が悪いようです。DM200はキーボードフレームの剛性が上がっているようなので、そちらをいずれ試してみたいと思います。とはいえいざ失くなってみても、携帯性のよいノートPCがあれば車移動では不便がありません。バッグを肩に掛け自転車などで移動する方にとっては、ポメラはよい選択肢だと思います。それからゴム足が非常に取れやすい。カバンの中に放り込んでおくと必ずいつの間にか失くなっています。好事家向けになるのでしょうが、いまどき万年筆とメモ帳もいいよ。-------------------------------------------------軽量化には並々ならぬ努力があったと製造開発系の記事で読んだことがありましたが、実際にかなり無茶な設計になっているようで、モニタ周りが特に華奢な印象です。指先でつまむだけできしみが起き、間違って踏みつけでもすればモニタとキーボードまとめて踏み抜いてしまうでしょう。それだけに危なっかしいかもしれませんが、この軽快さはそういった思い切りから来るものにも思えます。作りは前述通り一長一短というところですが、個人的には好感が強い。後述の問題点を一渡りの労力で解消しさえすれば充分な道具になります。最大の不満は「ATOK搭載」という扇動文句。ポメラに搭載されているのはPCに搭載する本来のATOKではなく、組み込み用ATOKというほぼ別の簡略版ソフトウェアです。操作系は通常のATOKをそのまま踏襲しているため満足していますが、とにかくとにかく収録語数が少なく、常用単語から少しでも離れると絶対に変換できません。JIS第2なら10%以下、第3はおそらく全滅です。読みのバリエーションにも弱く、当然著名人の名前も知りません。SHIFTJISコードを打ち込むことで単漢字を表示させることができるので、この機能を利用して、悪態をつきながらも個人辞書をひたすらに埋めていく作業が当初は続きます。これを読んでいるあなたも必ずそうなります。埋め合わせのつもりなのかわかりませんが、辞書登録機能は変格の指定など充実していますので、一通り登録作業を終えて端末を育て上げてしまえば他に比肩するもののない優秀な相棒になってくれることでしょう。なお問い合わせたところ「本来版のATOKはポメラのスペックでは処理しきれないため、アップデートで対応することもできません」とのことでした。インポート用の辞書データもありませんので、必要なのは手入力です。画面の前のお友達も私と一緒に一生懸命辞書登録だよ。

ポメラの最上位機種。DM10→DM100の、20をすっ飛ばしての移行ですが、性能のよさに驚き、もう後退は出来ないと思いました。価格の高さで二の足を一旦踏んだのですが、DM100ユーザーの文筆業知人からの強烈な勧めもあり、購入してみたら、これはもう手放せない。キータッチ、利便性、辞書付きなので言語自体のネット検索も不要です。これとスマホがあれば大体のことはこなせてしまいます。文章をガッツリかく人であれば、キータッチさえあえば是非これを。
