20 Yard x 12" Roll - Brodart Just-a-Fold III Archival Book Jacket Covers

The Brodart Just-a-Fold III roll is the best way to protect your cherished book jackets from dust, grease and grime. It is easy to use, clear and durable at 1.5 mils thick. Unlike the kind with a central opening, this type requires only a single fold at the bottom. And the paper perforations make it easy to see where to shorten if necessary. I think the roll is the way to go, unlike pre-cut prtectors, because you can cut as much as you like without waste or ending up with a too-short width. The 12" height is also ideal, since most books are that tall or shorter. The only thing missing is the tape tabs, which come with the pre-cut protectors. But you can easily buy a roll of Scotch double-sided tape. Follow the included Brodart directions. After you've made your sharp crease along the bottom, you can then secure it by cutting a 1" long piece of tape, adding it to the clear polyester (where the base of the book's spine would be) and affixing it to the Brodart backing paper. If you like, you can then add a piece to each of the ends. Voila! No tape touches your jacket, and you now have a handsome, secure jacket sleeve that looks good and adds to the value of your book.

These book jacket covers are made of high quality material and are easy to use. There are perforated folding lines on the first couple of inches of the edge so that you can fold the cover to the correct width. I also used this for some smaller books where I had to fold the paper beyond the perforated lines and I had no problem folding it straight and the extra paper that I had to fold over did not make the cover bulky. The plastic has what I'd term a "static cling" that keeps the book jacket cover snug after you're done folding, so there's no need to use any scotch tape.Here's a tip to get a straight, even cut on the edges of your covers. After placing the book jacket in the cover, allow about 1/4" extra on each side. Then, hold a yardstick in place and, with the PLASTIC side of the book jacket cover facing up, take a box cutter and score along the yardstick with a bit of pressure about 7-10 times. You have to have the plastic side on top for this to work. When you're finished, it looks really nice!

I have a lot of reference books that are 11" to 12" tall. This roll works wonderfully to protect the dust jackets so that I don't have to remove them every time I read through one of these books. The roll is extremely practical because the material can be cut to just the right length to cover the dust jacket. The height can be varied easily by folding the paper liner down or even letting the jacket extend slightly above the liner. I use small strips of Henzo double-sided tape (for scrapbooking) to secure the protector after folding because these do not come with adhesive.

Okay, I am obsessed, keeping all my hard cover book covers protected with Brodart. Brodart, is, in fact, a favorite word and product, ever since I discovered it while working at a book store as a college student back in the early 80s. My latest order came promptly, well-packaged, and at a reasonable cost. My books thank you, and I certainly thank you, too.

I try and find collectible versions of books that I enjoy, and this Brodart roll is the perfect way to protect them. I can cut down the roll to the right size for each book, and I'm able to cover about 20 books with each roll. For the amount of protection the covers provide from moisture, dirt, and wear and tear, it's definitely worth the price. I keep purchasing new rolls as I expand my library. The only cover I haven't been able to make this work with is the see-through cover to 1Q84.

Okay, but mine arrived with a crease down the middle of the length of the roll. It was not bad enough to return, but annoying because every book I covered now looks like someone folded the plastic wrong before flattening it down and folding it properly.
