My mom has had bad insomnia for several years, more noticeably in the past year as she recovered from knee surgery that left her in a lot of pain even after her knee had "healed". She tried everything for sleep: melatonin, Ambien, a 1/2 glass of wine, herbal remedies, diets, low/no sugar, the list goes on and on. She already was eating healthy and exercising as much as could be expected, but she could not sleep. I got her DVDs and CDs from the library and she hated them all. Then I thought of this on 1/13/13, and now she sleeps!!!!!! She doesn't have that blissful perfect sleep that she wants, but now she dozes off and wakes up more rested - without medication for sleep! We've had this for 5 days and the change is definitely noticeable! The sounds are as listed: ocean, summer night, rain, thunder, white noise and brook. "Ocean" is perfect, the dogs think the beach is in the bedroom and you think a surfer will walk in at any moment! "Summer Night" has cricket noises and sounds like riding Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland (without the music) "Rain" is by far the most relaxing. The "Thunder" one is odd as you would think thunder is a scary noise for some, but hey if it works for you use it! "White Noise" sounds just like a fan, a kind of noisy fan, but a fan. "Brook" sounds bubbly and is my least favorite... it sounds like a brook but also like a faucet running. My mom listens to this very loud for some reason - I can hear it 2 rooms away - but she can sleep with it like that. I come in and turn it down when I go by her room and she doesn't wake up. The sound is unobtrusive even when it is loud, and when I do hear it I am usually reading or something and it is pretty comforting. The audio does not sound tinny at all and is very realistic. I was surprised at the sound quality especially when she had it turned up so loud, but it was very good. I bought this model because it specifically did not have the heartbeat sound - maybe good for kids who have not read Edgar Allan Poe, but not for us! Note: This one can play ALL NIGHT LONG!! I was afraid the timer feature was the only way to use it as with some other brands/models, but you just turn this on and let it run as long as you want. Thanks to the other reviewer who mentioned that feature. The unit is very lightweight and I can see how it can be very portable for trips. Not sure how long the batteries would last, so will probably use it with the adapter whenever we can. It is so lightweight, I do think that if you dropped it, it would probably break or crack, so be careful with it. Definitely worth the money!

Works exactly how is expected. The audio choices are fun to change, slight noise quality issues, could be clearer. But I have noticed the further you stand back, the clearer it is.

Been using this specific model for years. I needed an extra one for another room. It works great and does exactly what it’s designed for. Haven’t had a problems and I highly recommend this noise maker to drown out any noise so you can sleep through the night I highly recommend this over any other noise maker out there. And a very well priced I might add. If you need one, get one asap because you never know when they might stop making this model!

After a trip to an airbnb on the beach where I slept the best I had in years, I realized I needed a machine to mimic the sound of the ocean waves. This has worked very well. The ocean sound of this is pretty realistic, not perfect but close. I set it to play all night on ocean waves and I fall asleep immediately and stay asleep. My husband can snore quite loudly at times and this has helped in drowning out the sound quite nicely. It is a great machine however, I have to cover the light on it with a felt mat or the light keeps me up! It would be better without a power light or for it to be on the bottom or side. The light is right on the top of the unit! It is like a beam of light, not great when you're trying to sleep and need it to be dark. Here are my overall pros and cons. Pros: Good price. Lightweight. Can use with cord or without. Sounds are pretty realistic at lower volumes. Can set to turn off after period of time or play all night. A few different sounds to choose from. Cons: Power light way too bright- have to cover to block out light. At high volume, sounds are not as realistic and a bit glitchy. Volume knob is a little awkward how its recessed into unit. Footprint of unit a bit big at the bottom. Would've liked a more compact design.

I bought this to take on a cruise to block out noise from the hallway and other cabins. It worked great. I liked that you could change the sound settings and control the volume. Great product.

I have bought this same machine several times over the years for my kids. They don't last forever; after a several years, the power knob starts to get worn out and the machine will cut out and you have to mess with the knob until you get it just right and it may or may not cut out again during the night. For the cost of it, that really doesn't bother me because it's worth it. Only my youngest, who is 9, still likes to use it at night. He's had one in his room since he was a baby and always keeps it on the brook setting. The new one I just got looks the same, but has been updated...the shape is just slightly different than the last one I bought six years ago, and the power cord from the previous one doesn't fit the new one, which is totally fine. The sounds are even more crisp and clear than before, which is really nice. This really is a great little machine.

Nice and loud. We’ve been buying this brand for decades. Cant sleep without it. Truly. They originally sold these in Walmart back in the early 2000’s or 2010’s which is how we first discovered this brand. Just ordered two of these to replace our old ones and wow are these perfectly loud. We sleep so well with them. It also blocks out sound in hotel rooms too if you travel often. We use these for both sleep and for privacy everywhere. Even our therapist puts one outside her door during sessions for privacy. If you have this on, people truly can’t hear what you’re saying.

I purchased this items knowing there were only six sounds on it. (I liked 4 of the six.) The sound quality was OK. My biggest complaint was the looping. Every ten to twelve seconds the sound would repeat over. It made my brain wake up and start counting instead of trying to let go and go to sleep. The ocean wave never finished crashing into the shore before it started coming inbound again. It was an OK purchase for the money, but I ended up buying a machine with no looping.

God value. Works well. I run it all night. A few different sounds to pick from. I have been running on battery. Nit-pick: low level volume adjustment is tight but lots of adjustment at high volume.

It's a very basic product and would not cost much to make. Considering the retail price, the markup is very very high. But it gets the job done nevertheless. I am married and have a snoring problem. During summers, the noise from air conditioning and ceiling fan sort of masks my snoring noise and my wife does not have much trouble staying asleep while I snore. But during winters, it becomes very difficult for her because our room is very very quiet. When I first heard about a white noise machine, the first thought that came to my mind was that this is something that might help my wife stay asleep while I snore during winters. I have been using this product for a month now and it has definitely helped a lot.
