Pelouze Heavy-Duty Mechanical Package Scale, 50-Pound (Y50)

It seems some of the reviews complain about never getting the same weight. TRUE, but not necessarily a fair criticism. When I am weighing a large package, 20lbs, and 16"x20", I need to center the package. If I carefully put in on the scale centered, it is much more repeatable. If I put weights on the center, where I can visually see that I am centering the weights, it reads the same every time. So if you side load the platform, it will read incorrectly. I shipped over 500 boxes, using this scale to calculate the weight before taking to UPS and/or FedEx, and I was always within 0.5 lbs. So, yes, it could be a better scale, but I didn't pay $200 either. So if I were giving stars for this scale at $200, it would get 1 star. Otherwise it gets the 4 stars.NOTE: I never weigh anything less than 4 lbs with this scale, it is always larger packages.

If anybody needs a quality-made scale, these readout scales are the best. Sometimes I don't trust those digital readout scales. I prefer the mechanical version.I previously owned a Pelouze, made in 1982, and it has always given me accurate readings. But, now, I need a scale that can read more than 10 lbs. This one goes as high as 50 lbs.It is easy to read the numbers, it is lightweight, portable, and convenient to own for weighing packages. Excellent product.

I purchased this scale primarily to weigh out ingredients for mixing materials for small scale concrete projects (e.g. concrete counters), but after opening the box you can immediately tell this is not a high quality item. The whole thing feels tinny, lightweight, and flimsy. To assess the accuracy I used various free weights from an olympic set, everything from 2lbs to 35lbs, and I would rarely get the same weight 2x (ie, totally inaccurate). I thought that maybe this unit was just a defect, but then I also felt like it just was not a high-quality product so I just returned it. Instead I purchased the larger 250lb metal (flat) scale from Pelouze. It seems to handle weights more consistently.

Basic and utilitarian, it does it's jub. Our digital scale crapped out and we decided to go old school. Best decision we've made in awhile.

Scale is hard to read. Graduations too small for this size scale. If object is not perfectly centered it will change the weight reading. Not advisable for heavy boxes that it is rated for. Move package to one side slightly and the reading will change by 2 or three pounds. Flimsy, the back of the scale was not attached properly, had to fix it myself. A piece of junk

No batteries required. Works to get a weight to punch in for mailing things online. I've had the best rated electronic scales just plain not turn on for me. This just works.

I use this scale to weigh my horse's hay to help him maintain a healthy weight. This scale has no problem standing up the the weighty job of weighing flakes of alfalfa. I love how easy it is to adjust the scale so that I can keep a board on it when weighing the hay.
