Fisher CZ21-8 Underwater Metal Detector

Simple no frills metal detector that is tuned for saltwater. I currently have two detectors I use, a third one(ACE 350) I gave to my son to use. Since I bought this CZ-21, I have really enjoyed beach hunting!! My other machine is a Garrett AT Pro that I bought with gift cards from my sister for my birthday. The AT Pro is decent for the beach and I can't knock it too much. After all, I found my first gold ring with it. But, the CZ 21 outshines it at every aspect. This detector is a Dual frequency VLF machine, thus it runs really stable in saltwater. My AT Pro is a chatty thing in the water. Yes, those who are obsessed with the AT Pro tweak it to quiet it down, but that reduces the depth as the AT Pro is a single frequency VLF machine. I have found a gold, silver and tungsten ring with my Fisher CZ 21. I have also recovered over 20 fishing sinkers as well. For those who hunt the surf seriously, you know you have to hit sinkers to find the gold. The CZ 21 is waterproof to 250 feet and is used by divers. The only downside to the Fisher is that the coil is hard wired, along with the headphones. There is no swapping out coils without sending the unit back to Fisher. For me, it is not a big deal at all. I like my 8 inch coil as is. The unit itself is pretty hefty, but I chest mount mine. That way, I am swinging the coil only!! It is light weight and I can swing it for hours without feeling tired. The detector has three tones, low, medium and high. No fancy LED readout or numbers to worry about. Just turn the knobs and go. I love listening for the tones as it lets me know what is underneath the coil. With this unit, you can also run auto tone that picks up everything. To ground balance, you turn the knob and do it the old fashioned way, by hand. There is no auto ground balance feature, you, the user are in control. IF you want a well built machine with no frills, and want to find gold or silver jewelry, along with coins, get this machine.

This is an amazing machine. It's going on 30 years old and still going strong. No microprocessors, entirely analog. It's heavy but it goes down to 250ft underwater and built like a tank. Most machines sound fainter as targets get deeper. This means you reach a point where faint ticks and blips of deep targets are confused with blips and ticks of small bits of surface trash and are ignored. With the CZ you turn up the BOOST and deep targets become loud again. This is VERY useful. Run with boost all the way up and you have a very deep and hard hitting machine. I love this thing.

I bought this based on the past reviews and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend also purchasing the pinpointer to help with deeper items as we found this detector can go pretty deep! I also recommend getting the belt to carry the unit around your waist because it can be a bit heavy after a while. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and with the sellers communication and 5 star customer service!

Not very happy. I made what I thought was a serious investment in a high quality dive metal detector. And it might be but mine was unfortunately dead out of the box and does not appear to be brand new either. When I opened the battery box to install the batteries the positive lead wire had been broken off. I was careful to observe that it was not from the way it was placed when the last person that was in there. It was already broke when they shut the compartment. I also noticed that the lockdown screws had small stress marks where somebody in the past had maybe over cranked the screw heads down to the battery compartment. Again does not appear new. Finally there is also some scaring inside the battery box as if has been through some type of repair in the past. Was it a warrenty return??? Not sure but $1100 is a lot of money to me to have it not work right out of the box. If I am taken care of and made whole I will update my review. I could probably solder the wire back on myself but that would probably void my warrenty. Edit: I am taking my one star to a two for now. This unit is being returned and I am getting a new one sent out. Still not very happy with getting sent a used unit but if I get what I am hoping for this will be justified. If they giving my shipping back I will move to a three. Second update: Got the new one in and decided to go with the 10” coil since I had to reorder. This one showed up with the mounting screw for the coil in three pieces. Really!? This is probably a wonderful machine if I could get one that is not broke. Two planned outings thwarted by broken equipment. Inspector was QC11

Great product, but, the search coil has no protector on it, so be aware when using it because the ground will scratch it up! There is a coil protector you can buy on other site! Also, be aware when removing the unit from the shaft, very sharp corners, and they will cut you!!

I love the machine and I have no problems with it. I am currently spending time reading the manual so when I go to the beach I hope to find something. I had written a previous review and it was not posted. I did not make a negative comment on the product. I found it interesting that Amazon would not post my review or my concerns.
