We believe this product is essential for CRF pets
1. Chronic renal failure is a fatal disease but can be treated and your pet will probably live longer. It is growing in incidence and vets aren't sure why (research feline or canine hyperthyroidism which is often a precursor to CRF). Your pet should have a full blood panel every six months after age 8 and before that if, e.g., your pet is prone to kidney disease (Persians, Siamese, e.g., and others). The earlier you catch the problem, the longer your pet will live. Note that one of the first signs of CRF is an increase in thirst and more output in the litter box. 2. Azodyl was not available for our first two CRF cats. Even so, with home-administered subcutaneous Lactated Ringer's Solution (LRS) and other meds they lived two years of good quality life after diagnosis. (See [...] for very helpful info.) One of the things we do, which you may not find recommended, is give all our pets distilled water. We also feed only very high-quality protein, relatively low phosphorus food, no mystery meat. Two of the best, in our nonprofessional opinion, are Solid Gold turkey and By Nature turkey (also available via Amazon). Keep fish to a minimum; there is a little in the Solid Gold. 2. Our experience with Azodyl. Our third cat lived five years after early diagnosis, this time with Azodyl available and other good care. The Azodyl capsule is too big for most cats, thus we gave it to her mixed in food--but it was not known that one hour prior to a meal is more efficacious. We are now on our fourth CRF cat, who is 18 years old, diagnosed eight months ago from a 6-month check-up. We give her the contents of one capsule of Azodyl mixed in a teaspoon or so of food one hour prior to her main meal, twice a day. Mixed in with her main meal are one or two drops of sublingual B12 complex. On her 6-month check after diagnosis, her results were about the same--and one was back in the normal range. The vet was surprised at the results because we aren't feeding our cat any of the prescription diets due to their mysterious "meat by-product" content. Note: this is our personal choice and we are not veterinary professionals--listen to your vet and do your own research too. 2. Our current CRF cat is semi-feral. It is well-nigh impossible to give her fluids unless we slip her a LITTLE valium, prescribed by our vet. Obviously, it's not a good idea to sedate her twice a week, so we haven't administered fluids as is necessary. Thus far she's drinking enough to compensate but we'll have to start giving her fluids before it's all over. The point is, even without fluids her numbers are good. I think they would have been better with fluids, though. 3. After your pet is diagnosed, anticipate the weather and order a sufficient quantity of Azodyl in the temperate months to get you through the extreme heat and cold of other months so you don't have to worry about dead cultures. That said, the supply we ordered last time coincided with an unexpected hot spell and arrived with melted ice packs. It did not appear to have affected the product's quality, as evidenced by the check-up six months later. 4. This information is anecdotal, of course, but our experience with Azodyl has been very positive. The keys to CRF treatment are early diagnosis, subq fluids, healthy cat food--and Azodyl. Regular checks after diagnosis and a close watch on signs of problems that accompany CRF are necessary. Read all you can--you might want to begin with FelineCRF.com . 5. Now I'm going to order a 6-month supply from Medi-Vet--that's how optimistic I am about Azodyl!

Amazing probiotic
My kitty's BUN numbers had increased 20 points over normal within two months, and she is in stage II of IV of CRF. I started her on the Azodyl, and a month later, her numbers have decreased 10 points. She She is also on subcutaneous fluids twice a week. I tried using pill pockets to administer the capsules, but she decided since there was something hard inside, she'd chew it first. Of course, once she tasted the powder, she wouldn't eat it. I also tried dumping the powder inside the pill pocket - again, no luck, plus, they pack a lot of powder into the capsules, and I had to use two pill pockets. So, I broke down and mixed it in with a teaspoon of her prescription wet food (Science Diet K/D). Bingo. She laps it up now with no argument. The manufacturer does state the probiotic should be given on an empty stomach. However, their website also states if it is given with no more than a teaspoon of food, it should be okay. I have also read that a teaspon of full fat yogurt also might work. For those of you having difficulty with your pet eating the prescriptive canned food, I had to mix it with regular canned food for about a week. Little by little, I began to mix in less of the regular canned food until all I did was put a teaspoon on top of the prescriptive food. My cat now is eating only prescriptive dry and wet food. Also, my kitty is on Cosaquin for her arthritic hips, and mixing that into the prescriptive wet food was helpful getting her to like it (different feeding than the Azodyl). However, I must state that my cat has maintained a voracious appetite. If your pet is refusing food, try mixing the powder into a very small amount of tuna water (liquid dissipates the probiotics too fast). Some people whose pets were much worse off than mine have had great results with Azodyl and their pets regained their appetite. A very small percentage have not had luck with it (BUN levels over 150). However, please don't give up; this probiotic is at least worth a try for a month. Update: My kitty's numbers continue to fall toward normal, albeit not quite there. However, the vet is very happy with my cat's progress and her condition is no longer considered "guarded." She looks and feels great. I am still mixing the Azodyl with a small amount of food twice a day. Considering my cat's progress, the vet did not feel giving the probiotic with a small amount of food was an issue. Straight from the manufacturer's website: "Azodyl capsules should be given whole and not opened or crushed. If necessary, administer capsule with a piece of the animal's favorite food or treat." 17 YEAR OLD SICK CAT WANTS TO PLAY AND BE ENTERTAINED
I noticed that my precious 17 year old Snowshoe (purebred Siamese and Domestic Short Hair) Cat was limping. I looked at her foot and one nail was growing into her pad. I took her to the vet and she cut the nail and treated the wound. I brought her home and she was lying under my table. I heard a strange noise and saw that she was having a terrible seizure. I took her back to the vet and she did a blood test. Bun was 53, creatinine was 2.2. The vet said she had signs of kidney and liver problems and advised a prescription diet. She told me my cat had 3 months to a year and a half to live. She was very pessimistic and offered me no encouragement or help at all. She seemed annoyed that I refuse to do expensive testing which would only diagnose and not help my cat. My cat had been sleeping almost continuously for quite a while. I attributed this to old age. I searched frantically on the internet for something that would help my cat. I'm into organic food and have always fed her a high quality dry food from the health food store - she simply would not eat canned. I saw the reviews for Azodyl and I ordered it. It came warm and I was so upset. I demanded that they overnight it to me and they did. After the first dosage I had a sense that she felt a little better. She has now been on Azodyl for about 12 days. She has improved more each day. She is awake for much of the day. She is meowing for attention. The last two days she has been DEMANDING that I play with her and entertain her. She walks around the house looking at everything with interest. This is truly a MIRACLE. My old sick, almost comatose cat is enjoying life again. I'll keep her on this medicine for good. I hope it will extend her life and prevent further kidney damage. No matter what, she is FEELING SO MUCH BETTER AND HAPPIER. I thank God for the Internet and for letting me find something to help my cat. I hope that Vets become aware of this treatment and recommend it instead of the horrible, unhealthy prescription diets they prescribe.

Buy from a trusted seller... not Amazon
Don't get me wrong. I buy everything on amazon... but this is not something you should get on here. The bottle clearly states that the medicine MUST remain chilled and refrigerated. I ordered the medicine online since it was $10 cheaper than getting it from my vet. The medicine arrived in a bubble wrap envelope with what once might have been a cold pack but was actually a hot pack wrapped around the bottle. The bottle was extremely warm to the touch since it was obviously being kept nice and roasty toasty in the insulated hot pack. If the medicine is left unrefrigerated for an extended period of time, the bacteria that is in the medication becomes ineffective. (Think antibiotics and birth control) So now I "saved" $10 on an ineffective worthless medication. Don't try to skimp on money like I did. Get it from a trusted seller, like your vet. *On a side note* The pills are your average human size capsules. I got lucky that my cat eats everything and anything. Broccoli? Sure no problem! Peas? Yes please! So I was really happy when all I had to do was cover half of the pill with a treat and she gobbled it right up. Any of my other cats wouldn't even attempt it. It must be eaten whole and not sprinkled in their food since the bacteria needs to be administered and released in their stomach. So if you don't think that you cat will eat something that big, you may want to ask your vet about an alternative. Just like any medication, it may not work for everyone. The medication helps remove toxins that would normally go through the kidneys and bypasses them to the intestines. It's not a miracle drug for kidney disease but it might help lessen the burden on their kidneys. I hope this medication helps your pets :)

Don't give up hope, Azodyl saved our cat's life!
We moved to Nicaragua and brought our 3 cats. They are 11 years old and are our children. Probably not natural but we love these girls so much. Well, 2 months ago our alpha cat became very lethargic and just "not herself" we had the vet come out and we had blood and urine tests done. Her BUN (nitrogen urea) was 109, her creatine was elevated to 8.8. She was in the final stage of kidney failure. These numbers are a death sentence to cats in Nicaragua. We got second, third and forth opinions and all but one vet said "put her down". I read and researched and read some more...I ordered several items and had a friend that was back in the States bring us what items I orderd. It was a week of hell waiting to get this medication. It was not the fault of shipping. The shipping was fast. It was waiting for our friends to return. We started the Azodyl pills the night we got them from the airport. We also started Epakitin and NHV tripsy drops. The week prior to recieving these items from the US we had her on fomotadine, sodium bicarb and zofran.that was the only treatment we could get for her in Nicaragua. We did give her 10cc of water every hour, orally, via a syringe, we supplamented with pedialyte every three hours. After two weeks on the Azodyl and other items listed above her BUN was down to 33 and her creatinine was 3.8. We will have her blood tested again in two weeks. She is back to chasing butterflies and being happy. Her eyes are bright again. She is eating again and is full of life. She had lost about 1/2 of her body weight. We now are concentrating on her diet and getting some weight back on her. I am positive that Azodyl saved her life. We have resigned ourselves that she will be on medication for the rest of her life. That is a small price to pay to know that kidney failure is not going to take her anytime soon. The vets here have never seen a turn around like She had. Of course we still have to have people bring it in from the US. Again...small price to pay for our baby. If you are reading this and your cat has CKD, try this. I also reccomend the other two products I mentioned. Good luck!

Good supplements
The product seems to be helping. I gave a 4 since the ice in delivery wasn't as cold as should be.

The Refrigeration Issue
Do you buy ice cream online? If not, then you probably shouldn't buy this online either. OK, that's not really a fair comparison, but it illustrates the point. Many other reviewers correctly point out that Azodyl needs to kept cool to be effective. For those of you considering buying this online, you should also consider paying extra (if necessary) for one- or two-day shipping. Another excellent option would be to buy it directly from your vet and take it home immediately. I understand that you're buying it online because it can be half the price (or less) of what your vet charges, but you might want to weigh that cost savings against the risk to your pet's health if you give them a product that has been rendered ineffective by your penny pinching! You've already gone through the process of having the animal diagnosed so that you know it needs Azodyl, you paid for the diagnosis & product, and you take the time to administer it (probably along with other medications and products). My experience has taught me that cats have not evolved with any biologically advantageous mechanisms for taking pills. Kitty hates this part of the day (twice), and I'm not jazzed about spending a half hour every day on the process of administering medicine. You probably aren't, either. So why risk making the whole endeavor pointless? The companies selling this online probably just shouldn't allow it to be shipped anything but overnight or 2-day, but that's obviously their decision and no one else's. Having said all that, I need to make sure I also say that I was very pleased with my order from "Pet Supplies 4 Less". As others have said, it arrived in 2 days (not using Prime) and was well packed in a small Styrofoam ice chest. The bottle felt like it just came out of the refrigerator. However, from now on I'll probably buy it from the vet just to make sure all this trouble and expense is worth it. Oh yeah, and to try to ensure greater longevity and comfort for my pet. Let's not forget that part.

Why is the human version cheaper?!
Purchased for my dog with CKD. We started subQ fluids, Azodyl, fish oil, Coq10 along with Hills canned kidney diet. Her creatinine went down from 3.3 to 2.8 and BUN down from 45 to 37. Hard to say what has helped but we have seen improvements. I am upset to discover however that this same company is price gouging pet parents for the same EXACT product marketed under Renadyl for humans. The only difference is that Renadyl contains 45 billion cfus (more!) along with prebiotics (fiber) and needs to be given with food, whereas Azodyl contains 15 and is given in empty stomach. She is a 45 lb dog so we have been giving her 3 caps a day, so itโs itโs a wash for us. Not to mention the price fluctuations with Azodyl is HUGE! Went from 59 to 86?! Save yourself some $$$ and get the human version, it has more CFUs anyway! ๐ Also donโt worry if the ice had melted, as long as kept cool/room temp product is still ok for 14 days

Temperature control needed for this products.
I also received this package without any ice packs or insulation. This is worrying because the live bacteria that this product relies on to help treat CKD does above 8 degree Celsius. As you can imagine this is a major problem and puts our pets at risk. I hope you fond a solution for thi because we rely on you for this medicines and so do our lil friends.
