The funny true story of city newlyweds, a rundown, rural Virginia farm, with 28 quirky rescue horses, 12 cats, 10 dogs, and 4 kids. What could possibly go wrong? The hu-amorous memoir of an animal-phobic, city robotics engineer who learns too late that his new bride's dream is to have a farm where she can rescue ex-racehorses. When the newlyweds take a Meyers-Briggs Personality Test for fun, it tells them that their marriage is doomed. There is only one problem: they took the test after the wedding. So whether he's chasing a cow named Pork Chop through the woods, getting locked in a tack room by the family pony, being snubbed by his wife's favorite dog, or unsuccessfully trying to modernize their barn using the latest technology, the odds are already stacked against him. It seems like everything on four legs is out to get him. Will the animals prove Meyers-Briggs right? Also available in LARGE PRINT "Animals can and do make our lives better. If you can tolerate home-spun style and humor, this is a fun read
This is not a novel -- it is a personable, home-spun, account of the surprised and surprising life of a city dweller cast into farm life in order to follow the love of his life. Against that standard, it is quite good.

Totally enjoyable read!
I would recommend this to anyone who ever wanted to live on a farm, because it gives a very realistic picture while being funny, sensible, heartwarming, and sometimes sad. I laughed so much!

Gratifying and realistic farm life
As a positive reactor in sometimes negative situations, his sense of humor and genuine kindness sheds a loving shadow over his entire realm of family and friends. As I read his concern for his wife's approval throughout trials and irritations, I looked at myself and saw that his attitude of peace at all cost will improve my marriage! I truly value this book as a guide to real family happiness. The positive lessons and true love shown to his children are priceless..

uplifting yes, but it makes you laugh, too
This was a fun book to read. First of all, it got somewhere. The narrative had it's ups and down (as any good story does) but along the way I laughed. There aren't too many books that can keep you intrigued, give you a sense of progress, make you hold your breath over impending disaster, and keep you laughing anyway. If you like the country and kids and plants and pets--including cats, dogs, horses, cows and whatall--you'll like this book! I wish I could find more like it. It's a keeper.

Loved it
Loved the characters in this book. I totally identified with Nancy, as I used to rescue horses, dogs, etc. She was so blessed to have such a supportive husband. Simply a lovely, humerous, well-written book.

I loved every page
I was engrossed in this book from page 1. As an animal lover it brought a gentle sense of familiarity in its descriptions. The author’s subtle sense of humour and keen observations concerning the family, other people and assorted pets brought a welcome window into what’s still decent and honest in the USA when nowadays so much seems to have deteriorated or be replaced by just the opposite.
