Review: REALLY WORTH YOUR MONEY - 1st things 1st. while i was considering to which camera to buy i was trying to find out what is being given to you besides the actual camera. i havent found any post about it so just gonna mention whats in the package -camera -2 cds: a reference manual cd and a software cd to upload on your computer. both are very well designed and easy to use..anyone with nikon really has alot to get out of besides the camera..dont have the time to go thru every detail on the cds, ill be here for another year typing.. -usb cord about foot long or so - these 3 plugin cables to attach to tv or whatever theyre used for..i dont really use it so i dont really know what it can be used for.. -you also get the actual module guide in a booklet as oppose to the cd..whatever works..im sure theres some sort of diff bet the2 just dont have the time to find one.... -nikon neck strap -a cover for the lens the camera is excellent. i saw in the comments that ppl complained that if you zoom in the camera shakes and you lose stability and cant take a proper picture. i can tell you thats not fully true i realized the camera shakes bec its probably too sensitive-its your hands that cant keep it perfectly straight when your zoomed and focused at a particular thing- i zoomed it on my table its totally fine..if you have trouble keeping it straight the solution is put on the flash button- i realized that even if you can keep your hands steady enough to take a clear pic- as long as the flash is on itll come out perfectly fine...the zoom is absolutely amazing.. i took a pic about 15 feet or more away from a yogurt can and i was able to read the ingredients on it!! it has a very sharp zoom for pics and video really fantastic to see!!! the thing that makes this camera diff then others is the sd card slot..for some reason idk why when you insert the sd card it still will run on the camera memory and i still havent figured how you can swap it..what will happen is itll go on camera mode and if or when you run out of space it will move to the sd card..you can also take a pic and copy it to the sd card memory afterwards- just its a little annoying if your concerned the camera will just suddenly break and you'll lose those very few(its only about 45 mega bites on the camera- about 10 pics..) pics on the camera. im not so fussy about it...just buy a good case and and take pics only when the strap is in your hand or around your neck and you'll be fine..ive been taken pictures for a number of years and ive had no problems doing that.. i would give a 4.5 star bec of this small issue with the sd card but being there is no such thing as giving half a star ill give a 5..i feel bad for the bad ratings on this camera for those who dont know how to use one and are complaining about zoom when its not true.. if your looking for problems youll def find no matter how good the item is even if it were $1500. but if your like me that you just want a good camera and you'll deal with things that come on the way (if you want to call it a problem) you'll be totally grateful for buying this product..GUARANTEED wish you all the greatest success!
Review: Let me count the ways! - Where do I begin - to tell the story.... Well a certain generation know the song - but I LOVE this camera!! We were looking for a camera that was easy to use but had a terrific zoom - for stills as well as video - for an upcoming trip. Purchased a great SONY in January but while the pics and video were great it was just too cumbersome and having to change the lens was too much trouble. Wanted to have something "all-in-one" and this camera fits the bill! (The cost was much better also!) I live with an awesome view of the ocean and local areas - I have zoomed in on neighborhoods across the bay, used macro for super close-ups of flowers, took natural shots easily because the shutter is so quick, caught birds in flight, and have the most awesome pictures of the moon - craters and all! We have still not tried all of the settings but are working on it! Our only issue - and this is our problem not the camera is when the camera is in full zoom: 1) If you are not using the highest setting it might be pixelated and 2) it is so sensitive that when you take the shot it "offsets" from center. Of course this could be solved with a tripod but who's carrying one all the time?! The camera is with us all of the time - my mother called it "my mascot" - because you just never know when that super moment will come up!! The only con to this camera is the same as with all digitals - no eyepiece and there IS a glare in the sun. Absolutely Love it and recommend the following accessories: rechargeable batteries, a minimum 32gb, class 10 sdhc card - you will need it :) - and the screen protector. Go for it!! You will not be sorry!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Hello, why the red version of this camera have a shipping weight of 3 pounds and the same camera in black have a shipping weight of 4 pounds?, thanks.**
A: Shipping weights are estimated by sellers and include packing materials. If the seller that posts the weight just guesses or uses more packaging than the others then there could be discrepancies. To address your concern, the red and black versions weigh the same. If the seller you're buying from is charging shipping by weight, contact them and ask them to make an adjustment ot buy from a seller with a flat rate shipping fee.

**Q: Would you recommend this camera for taking pictures on an African safari? Do you think it would adequately capture mountain gorillas in low-light settings? We're deciding between this camera and the SX50, so any input would be greatly appreciated!**
A: I had the same choice. I went Nikon and am very happy. Although I have never taken photos of gorillas in low light I have taken photos of my children who can occasionally behave as such in low light. This camera is superb. After owning 10 years worth of nothing but Cannons I finally strayed from the reservation and bought this Nikon after three months worth of contemplation. I am very happy. The 3D effect for very still shot photos might be some of the sharpest non professional photos I have ever seen. I would buy this again, or take on an African safari knowing the zoom will be a huge asset. Best of luck on whatever you decide.

**Q: Are you getting good pictures with the camera?**
A: I have gotten some great pictures from it. I notice that the close ups are sometimes blurry so I have to back off until the screen clears. I would say normally good pictures.

**Q: 30x zoom, how much is optical (digital is worthless) and what is the range (i.e., 25mm-500mm) optical.**
A: This according to Nikon: NIKKOR lens with 30x optical zoom; 4.0-120.0 mm (35mm 135 format equivalent: 22.5-675 mm); f/3.0-5.8

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wow! Very impressive for the price. Bad focus, but everything else good.
*by L***A on October 7, 2013*

I will update as I test through the features. I wish I could upload sample photos. I was amazed as I stood in my master bath and zoomed across the bathroom, out the door of the adjoining master bedroom, out THAT door and into the upstairs open hallway and THEN through THAT door at the end of the hall to the furthest room on the floor (none of the rooms had any lights turned on, only overcast hazy natural light). I took a photo of the room at the other end of the house and the photo picked up the details of the FIBERS in the decorative floor carpet!!! Blew me away. Without flash!! My last Sony would have choked on such a feat and it cost about 100 more. Overall, quite pleased with the low-light features. Camera pops on and ready to shoot in quite good timing. That was my first concern as that was always a benefit of Sony -- the ability to see a random photo opp, grab the camera, turn it on and shoot immediately. Canon chokes on that, so do a few others. Sony DSC is master there, but this Nikon is quite impressive point-n-shoot ready. And it's low-light is far superior to my Sony. I have two cameras with all the bells and whistles, because I thought *someday* I may finally learn how to use them. But to this day, they remain virtually untouched. I finally got smart and got a camera that really has the very best of ONLY those features I need the most! Also - must say that the product picture does not do this camera justice in terms of color. This photo makes it look like something a teenage girl would have in their locker. In reality, the camera is a stunning deep dark garnet red - very handsome!!! Very serious and posh looking. No more picking up the wrong camera from table at weddings! UPDATE: Here's my 2-year assessment. This thing is my GO-TO for fine HD video recording - I use it regularly to record my daughter's choir concerts and can zoom in on her in the back row (casualty of being tall) and see if she's chewing gum or not. It's the bomb and all my friends are constantly amazed at the high quality recordings. Concerts too -- excellent concert recording device - even loud concerts, no sound distortion. Heck, one of my videos of Foreigner concert was even used by the local Television new station. But sadly - my other need (which I didn't realize was such a need when I bought it) is stage photography, being able to photograph my daughter on stage and in theatre productions. This thing sucks at that!!! HORRIBLE auto-focus, sports focus, action shots -- I've tried EVERYTHING and I can't seem to get the right setting to not produce a blurry photo, without even using zoom. Let's be honest - almost *every* camera on the market does well with action shots/movement shots in bright outdoor lighting -- the real tough sell is if it can handle movement/action (ie., a close-proximity band with irregular lighting, or kids moving around on stage during a play with stage lighting) in indoor or stage lighting. Sadly, this one cannot. And before you get all "buy a more expensive camera" mode on me.... My mom's HTC Phone takes way better/clearer action shots than this - -and she barely even knows how to use it. She just points and shoots and gets great action stops. And she paid way less than this camera. And to all those guys who argued about the "perfect" lens cap. It sucks -- a LOT. It's the worst in fact, and I've owned several cameras. You guys are smoking the drapes or you don't actually *own* or *use* the thing a lot where you're jumping to grab a quick shot. Sure, if I'm thinking about grabbing a photo, I remember to take the lens off - but 50% of the time I'm capturing a photo opp I hadn't been prepared for. If you turn it on with the lens on, it makes this horrible noise - you just know it can't be good for the longevity of the motor. And then you get an error message, then you have to turn it off, then turn it back on to get rid of the error message. By that time, my daughter has exited the stage ;-( But the Zoom is still exception in my view, the still shots are exception. Just don't plan on using this camera if anyone is actually *moving*. For the money - it's a very good camera. For the money, it's a SUPERIOR HD video recording device And as for the batteries -- it's really a preference thing. I was tired of having no camera available because the proprietary batter would no longer hold its charge and the price to replace justified a new camera. For me, I like having rechargeable batteries I can pop in or even store bought ones that are available on every corner gas station.
