Does 2B mean the same as #2/No. pencil? Would the lead be the same as the the common wood school pencils?

No. The 2B refers to the softness of the lead. This 2B lead provides a smooth and soft writing/drawing experience. A 2B lead is typically used for drawing, but you can use it to write. If you are looking for a #2 pencil lead, look for a lead that is HB. An HB lead is harder than 2B lead. As for the WSD 5.6mm lead, I really like it.
