For those looking for the moderate to high body count usually found in Italian thrillers under this rubric, it's there, but far in between. Great fairy- tale based imagery, not too different from the approach used in "A bell from hell;" in this case Jack and the Magic Beans and Little Red Riding Hood. Jean Seberg from Breathless and Lilith, as well as former Spanish pop singer Marisol as the eponymous character and Barry Stokes do all a wonderful job. Much closer to the works of Luis Buñuel than to anything else (think Dairy of a Chambermaid), if you are willing to throw your expectations out the window, you'll get more out of it than expected. Very visually engaging and not so much plot, but motif- oriented; no wonder why Juan Antonio Bardem (Javier and Carlos' uncle, by the way) is considered by many one of the great Spanish filmmakers of all time. I own a copy of Paul Naschy's Dracula's Great Love, which is also very surreal and unconventional, by Vinegar Syndrome. I must say I am very satisfied with the job they did with both films!
