This was a great extension to Elliott's original story "Under A War-Town Sky
This was a great extension to Elliott's original story "Under A War-Town Sky." It was great to spend more time with Henry, as well as go on another adventure with him. While overall I didn't think the story was believable (meaning that I don't believe Henry could have ever made the trip back), the events regarding the main focus point of the story were believable. The people he encounters and most of the events made me think they could potentially have happened to someone.Again, Elliott inserted many facts about WWII into the story that I'm sure many readers had not be aware of in the past. I know I learned a lot more about certain elements of the war that I was never taught in school or read in previous books. her writing style remained fluid and easy to breeze through.I enjoyed this story more than Under A War-Torn Sky because it tied up many lose ends. It answered a lot of lingering questions I had, and I felt fulfilled after learning the answers. Some events I was really upset to see occur, but at the same time, I expected them. This is certainly a book I will read again in the future!

Not quite as good as the first one
I really enjoyed reading UNDER A WAR-TORN SKY to pass the time between exams when I was a senior in college and so despite being a bit older than the target audience I decided to go ahead and read the sequel. I liked it and thought it was good but what I didn't like was that while we get some closure on many of the characters there are some rather long loose ends. For example Henry himself doesn't have his story ended completely as he gets home and we know his mom wants him go to college but we don't really see what his plans are. And there is Patsy who we all know and love but I for one would have loved to have gotten to know her as well as I did some other characters. And lastly the relationship between Henry and Patsy is a bit confusing to me because I understand why they don't get engaged but I am not exactly sure where their relationship stands at the end of the book due to the fact that they haven't actually discussed it. Because of this I would actually love to see a third book where Henry's character really gets a solid ending. All in all a great way for kids and anyone else interested to learn about this fascinating period in history.

A Perfect title
Peace at the end of a war-peace for whom? Peace provides no easy "peace of mind" or comfort for those who have been involved in war. This book takes the reader into the troubled mind of Henry, an American pilot who was shot down over occupied France during World War II. In Under a War Torn Sky(first book), he was hunted by the Germans and lived through many adventures as he sought to get to safety. At the beginning of this book Henry is back at his home in Virginia but he faces post-traumatic stress syndrome and can't seem to find peace. His solution is to return to France to find the people who had helped him survive. While America is celebrating peace Henry finds a world turned upside down. This book would be a great book for history teachers to use to illustrate the dicotomy of war and peace. I can see a parallel to the "peace" in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other similar "areas of unrest." This should be a "must read" for students of history, military strategy, and policy making. This book is recommended for middle and high school readers. I think younger readers would need some support to understand all the intricate details provided in this adventure.

Excellent
A page turner filled with insight and historical fact. It is riveting. I would suggest it and the first book in the series to accompany historical study of this time period.

Hope to see a 3rd in the series...
Great follow up to Under a War Torn Sky. My 5th grade son loved it and so did I. We keep hoping that Elliot will write a 3rd in the series. What happens when he gets back home?
