It didn't work out of the box
I realized this is partially my fault. I took everything out of the box, I carefully setup the strip behind my monitor coiled the remaining portion into a small ball that over extended past the bounds of my screen. I then followed the directions on how to connect everything and in the end when I had everything all setup, only the first two LED's ever lit up. I thought it was because of the software needing to know the limits of which LED's to use to match my PC screens colors but after some troubleshooting I realized the LED strip itself was compromised. I was very discouraged with this product and do not suggest it. Most dynamic lighting setups seem to be around the $100 mark, specifically for ones like the Phillips Hue setup. It seems the cheap alternatives are just no there yet.

Works on Linux. Here's what I found out.
Tried a windows machine with Ambibox app. The 3M 60 leds/M variety I bought has 180 leds. I used the Adalight device type and had to go into device manager to check the com port (click more settings to get the extra com port drop down). Couldn't get all the LEDs to light in any of the capture modes, but they did light fully in static. Good enough to test it.Moving on to Linux. I used woodenshark/Lightpack repo. Check issue 83 on github for minor change to make it compile. Otherwise the build instructions they have are good.I ran into a bug when using static light modes with the woodenshark repo. The light would get set, but then turn off after a minute. Check out psieg/Lightpack fork for one that doesn't have this bug. Still had some warnings that prevented compilation. Remove the QRect s line. Change the "const char* const" on the name() function to "std::string". This fork also has a couple extra features compared. The included udev rules are not appropriate for this device. I did something like:SUBSYSTEM=="tty", ENV{ID_VENDOR_ID}=="1a86", ENV{ID_MODEL_ID}=="7523", GROUP="plugdev", MODE="0666"adjust to suit your device id and preferred group. After that run the Software/src/bin/Prismatik binary and you should be able to do it's configuration. Again select Adalight and adjust LED count to your custom length.Screen capture is limited to a single display, but you can pick which one. Not sure if you can run multiple sets. There are also color changing and static modes. Pretty much just works after setup.Physically the hardware feels cheap. Power supply claims 5v@8A. Adhesive backed tape seems ok, but I'm going to use some clips to mount.

Lights stopped working after less than two weeks.
The leds would get stuck on colors after about 30 minutes and I would have to plug and unplug a connector or close the program. These lights were on and off for about two weeks until today. I opened the Ambibox program and noticed that only the first 13 leds were working. I've tinkered with the settings and I can't seem to get the rest of the leds to light up. If I could get some assistance that would be greatly appreciated, but so far I'm disappointed with the limited use I've had.EDIT 7/25/2019: The company reached out to me and diagnosed my current kit with a defect. They were very persistent in trying to find an error within my program or the lights themselves. The problem was easily resolved with a replacement that came within days of my complaint. Just set it up and everything works so far. Great customer service and will update if anything occurs to my lights.

Just read it. 30seconds and unhappy.
First two minutes of install and there isn't any guide on installing this thing. They basically say just slap it on, plug it in. "IT'S EASY INSTALLATION"Buyers beware: from my understandings you need a SEPERATE accessory to create a perpendicular connection to allow this to be set up like a square to properly fit behind the display. Also will require cutting to do so.Both of which will void your ability to return this.So basically you spend the money on it, then be sure you're willing to risk it since you're stuck if it doesn't work or hold up.I got this discounted for prime day and it still isn't all that cheap but I understand considering the software and such. But it's not disclosed anywhere that you will have to cut the strip into multiple segments and purchase seperate 90degree connectors to effectively install this and utilize it. It's also not disclosed that modifying this is mandatory and voids the ability to return it. So now I'm on the fense if I want to do this or not. I was under the assumption it came with connectors or was multiple connectable segments as indicated by the pictures. You see the strip connects in a 90degree angle /perpendicular setup in their product description images. Yet logically you're given one whole single solid strip with no individual connectable sections and no logical way of recreating the images advertised without modifying the strip or acquiring seperate essential connectors that should have came with it in the first place.A consumer shouldn't question 30 seconds after opening a product on whether or not its worth it if they have to run the risk of not being able to return it.I've seen people try the "pinch" method where they pinch the strip at the corners during installation. However you're running the risk of damaging the strip by doing so.

The product is falsely advertised as a plug and play "easy as 1,2,3" product that doesnt work
Bought this kit on September 22. Installed the Ambibox Windows software, went through the settings as the Ambibox guide suggests. I still can't get the strip lights to work. Only one LED turns on. Waste of money and my time. Please don't waste your money on a product that doesn't work correctly. I even tried the Android software and still nothing.

Stopped working after a week
Whenever I try to connect the control box to my PC I just get a warning that the lights are drawing more power than my port can provide. Returning.

A good cheaper alternative to the Panasonic hue
I bought this for my arcade machine. Works great although the software to make it work has a bit of a learning curve to it. It’s not that straightforward for even a IT guy like myself but it works as it’s supposed once you get all the settings down.
