Bang for the Buck!
So I have been leasing vehicles every two years for the last 20 years or so. I usually order the top of the line sound system. I suppose the manufacturers have focused on improving the bass response at the cost of mids and highs over the last few years to suit the changing tastes of their customers. It is to the point where the side view mirrors bounce when you're cranking - which is great - I dig jamming! My latest ride is a 2015 Ram 1500 without the excellent optional Alpine sound system which for whatever reason was unavailable. The stock sound is still quite good, and plays loud so I am guessing their is some power in the stock amp, Unfortunately, the bass just over powers all the other frequencies no matter how you set the equalizer. Since I lease, I don't want to throw a bunch of cash at the problem. The no-brainer move was to perform a simple speaker swap on the cheap. After reading reviews and checking specs I was looking for the biggest blow-out deal available and the $56 JBL GTO 938's from Amazon were the perfect ticket for the front doors. These are the top of the line 6x9 triaxial car speaker from JBL, but are one generation away from their newest offering (GTO 939), so they are heavily discounted. Note, many of the other "series 8" JBL's in other sizes are still available on their own website, so rest assured you're not getting chopped liver. The swap was simple and took about 2 hours with no glitches. I suggest using the speaker adapters from Metra, (72-6514 for me.) By the way, the factory speakers are lightweight coaxials with a paper domed tweeter. Also, YouTube is a great resource for installation. Anyway, these speakers clearly and cohesively balance and extend the mid's and high's. The depth, articulation and tightness of the bass also improved dramatically.Next up were the factory 3.5" dash speakers which are straight up lightweight single paper cone junk. I went with JL Audio C2-350x from Amazon and Metra connectors from Crutchfield. They were a little pricier than I expected, especially when adding the connectors, but the installation was so simple and fast I couldn't resist. The resulting sharper imaging increases immediacy while reducing the compression in the highs. So for about $130 I am now in same league as the Alpine equipped Ram.Next up is replacing the rear door 6x9's to improve bass cohesiveness. I noticed the stock front door speakers played much louder than the stock rear door speakers indicating a difference in supplied power. I am considering coaxial JBL 928's since I don't need anymore mid and high extension and they too are being blown-out. The beauty of the whole scheme is I can easily pull the speakers when I turn in my car and if I don't I'm out only $200. Well worth the investment!By the way, I have a diverse taste in music but mainly dig on guitar jams. Some of my favs include metal like Slayer, jam bands like Gov't Mule, classic rock like Van Halen and Skynyrd, Motown (cause I' from the "D"), Progressive Rock like Dream Theater, hot chick singers like Amy Whinehouse, jazz like Theonius Monk. There is plenty more but sorry, no Hip Hop or Rap. Also, I have been into home hi-fi gear for years and currently have about 10 grand invested in a constantly evolving home theater which I use to play concert DVD's and stream hi-res audio and video.

Incredible Clarity, and Surprisingly Powerful Bass!
Edit: I've now had these speakers installed for almost 15 months, and they still sound incredible. I now have a Pioneer AVH-X2800BS with the EQ set on flat, going into a Clarion EQS-746 for EQ and pre-amp up to 7 volts, going into my Polk PA 330. This combo is working very well, as live tracks truly sound like being at the concert. The bass that comes out of these speakers blows my mind. At times, it sounds like there's a 10" subwoofer hitting the low notes with precision, but it's just these two 6x9's (I have my rears turned off). These speakers are everything you'd want in a car stereo!* * * *I've been using these for just over two months now. I have them set up with a Kenwood HD-458U head unit (http://amzn.to/1Myu4fc) and a Polk PA 330 (http://amzn.to/1MmyfHB) amp. The amplifier sends 100W RMS x 2, at 2 ohms, which is exactly the max these loudspeakers recommend. Although my head unit only has basic controls (bass, mid, treble, bass boost), I have still tweaked it to sound very good with these speakers.I am running only these two speakers in my truck - I've turned off the rear speakers. If you really want to get the most out of these speakers, I'd suggest getting a head unit with at least a 5-band parametric EQ, if not even a 10-band EQ. That'll be my next upgrade, since my last head unit had a 5-band, and I was able to get even better results (with other speakers) with the sound tune.Sound Characteristics:Bass - These speakers are strong enough to produce almost the amount of bass you'd get from a 10" subwoofer. I used to load my vehicles up with subwoofers, but I now prefer SQ over SPL, and these full-range speakers are perfect for that. You'll get rich mid-bass and deep bass frequencies form these JBL's - enough to fill the cab of any car.Mids - The mids are delicious, as shown when listening to Adele Live at Royal Albert Hall (http://amzn.to/1MmyH8K) or Jason Mraz Live: Tonight Not Again (http://amzn.to/1MmyJNQ). The singers' voices just float up to your ears, as if you're sitting in the front row. Vocal tones are rich and sonorous, although it really depends on how the source was recorded. Some tracks on Ed Sheeran's + (http://amzn.to/20KJZNJ) make his voice sound a bit tinny, like it was recorded in a small barrel. These instances are by and large the exception, however.Highs - A few reviewers mentioned setting the switch on the speakers to -3dB, but after testing, I kept mine on 0dB. I like the extra highs, and when tuned properly, it doesn't induce the scratching in my left ear that my tinnitus will activate when I listen to things too loudly. The highs in these speakers are so clear and pronounced, that even though my speaker location is in the doors right next to the floor, the sound stage is lifted all the way up to my head. This makes for some fantastic listening.A True LoudspeakerMy last setup was an active crossover 3-way setup with Polk DB6501 components, and amped (50W RMS x 2) Pyramid W64 6.5" bass drivers, driven by an Alpine CDA-9835 (27W RMS x 4) in 3-way mode. Although the SQ was better in that setup, the JBL GTO938's are enjoyable in a different way. They add vibrancy to the music with their full-range capability. These are truly an all-in-one solution for car audio, and if you're willing to turn off the rear speakers and settle for just these loudspeakers up front (amped, of course), you'll be very happy!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
The JBL GTO939 GTO Series 6×9” 300W 3‑Way Car Speakers are an amazing upgrade for any car audio system. The sound is powerful and clear with deep bass and crisp highs, making music sound much more lively than stock speakers. Installation was straightforward, and they handle high volume without distortion. Great quality and performance—definitely worth it! 🔊🚗

Great sound. Big composite frame.
This is my second pair. These speakers just sound better than most. Better than any Pioneer, Kicker or Alpine 6x9 for sure. I've had them all over the years.I like the +3 db boost option for the tweets. I set mine on for the rear door location.*BE ADVISED: These speakers have a rather large composite frame. Your car/truck may not have clearance, as my 2011 Dodge Ram did not. A section of material needed too be cut out with a multi-tool to make room. I included a picture.Ive used these with & without a crossover. They're good at full spectrum if that's your setup but probably best to cut some low end, especially if you have a subwoofer.

Absolutely insane sound!
In short this is the best speaker I’ve ever heard. The bass is very similar to a subwoofer yet the vocals are not distorted. I was wanting a speaker that had good bass without buying a subwoofer since I drive a small car and a subwoofer would take up too much space. This delivered on the bass and then some. They fit perfectly into the stock spot in the back window. If you want good bass without a subwoofer this is it, I personally think this is probably as much bass as one can get without buying a subwoofer. I think the bass is more than enough unless you like extreme bass. While these are more expensive they are well worth it, recommended for sure.

Title: Sonic Brilliance on Wheels
I recently upgraded my car's audio system with the JBL GTO939 GTO Series 6x9" speakers and the difference is nothing short of astonishing. The robust 300W peak power handling ensures that these speakers deliver crisp, clear, and vibrant sound even at high volumes, making every drive a delightful auditory experience. The three-way coaxial setup is a game changer. The highs, mids, and lows are distinctly clear and well-balanced. The high-frequency response is particularly impressive, thanks to the well-designed tweeters. They reproduce the vocals and instruments with a level of clarity and realism that is hard to find in car speakers at this price point. Installation was breeze. The build quality is robust, embodying the durable and reliable reputation of JBL. The black finish gives a sleek and modern look that blends seamlessly with my car's interior, adding a touch of elegance. Moreover, the patented I-mount system provides flexibility in mounting and ensures the speakers stay put regardless of the bumps on the road. The Plus One woofer cone technology is another standout feature, significantly enhancing the low-end response. In conclusion, the JBL GTO939 GTO Series speakers are a solid investment for anyone looking to enhance their in-car audio experience without breaking the bank. They exhibit a fine balance of aesthetic appeal, ease of installation, and exceptional sound quality that is bound to satisfy even the most discerning audiophile.

Great OEM replacement
A lot of stock audio systems run 2 ohms which limits the speakers available to buy should you blow a factory one. My Grand Cherokee L had such an issue and I went through a few options until FINALLY running across these. I checked fitment and Crutchfield said these wouldn't fit but given the lack of options I figured I'd give it a try anyway. They do fit just fine the ONLY issue is the stock screwholes are a little off from the screwtabs but it works. You can't install the grills but since they are behind your door panel grill it's not necessary anyway. The sound is pretty good from the stock amp and handles more RMS than the stock system can put out. I was hoping for a little more depth in the bass performance but it's as good as stock or better. Highly recommend them if you just need to replace a blown speaker and don't want to go through the hassle of adding an output converter, amp, etc.

After some slight door modifications, these fit perfectly in my doors and they sound AMAZING
I attempted to install these into my 2002 Chrysler Sebring 4dr sedan last week and they didn't fit (the space in the door was not deep enough and it kept rubbing against my window when I tried to roll it down). I started a return process but was still determined to make it fit (even though amazon showed that it would fit in my car) and noticed that spacers were available. The spacers (1/2") arrived today and I attempted to fit these in one last time before I followed through with the return process. The spaces didn't work either. I took one look at the factory speakers that I removed and noticed that they had their own spacer (with foam sealer) glued on to them and I managed to remove them from the factory speakers by using a heat gun to heat up the glue. Once I had the factory spacers separated from the stock speakers, I then used the spacers I bought (Metra 1/2") on top of the factory spacers and with a few adjustments with the screw holes, I managed to fit these in perfectly and cancelled my return! The sound quality is phenomenal, these are leaps and bounds better than my factory speakers and sound almost exactly like my $3,000 home theater system (mind you, I also replaced the rear speakers in my car with JBL GTO 939s), and these all work in perfect harmony! I'm a big fan of bass and I also look for good mids too and these deliver on all fronts!I highly recommend these and suggest that if you think these may be too big for your doors (like they were for me at first), look in to aftermarket spacers/adapters before you write these off, you won't regret it!
