Excellent Light Stands
Love these light stands! I use these for on-location shoots. I like them so much that I got rid of all my other stands (except the heavy duty C-stands for the studio) and bought a bunch of these. I love that they stack together and my assistant can carry a brick of several of them easily, even without a light stand bag. They also don't get beat up in transport nearly as much when they are stacked vs. tumbling around loose. They are also air cushioned, so my light heads don't get damaged as easily if my assistant lets them slip while adjusting the height. They are very sturdy and extend to 12 feet. Also like that they come with the little screw off threaded tip so you can attach items with either the larger or smaller fittings. The only issue I have is that sometimes the little plastic hooks that hold them together when they are stacked together can break if you're rough with them and I've been waiting for replacement parts from Manfroto for literally over three months now. That's probably because its a new product and shouldn't be an issue in the future. I just bought a couple more of these stands, so I can definitely say I'd recommend them.

The sturdy choice I'm glad I made
Received today in the usual Amazon abused box packaging, but something like this should survive this treatment and this did. I'm very glad I heeded the advice given in the reviews concerning wiggly jiggly lighter weight stands, including a $50 Manfrotto model, and purchased this one instead. Life's too short to put expensive lighting gear atop jiggly wiggly things. Are there sturdier light stands? Of course. This one, however, gives one confidence something really dramatic must happen before your light tips over. The pin atop the stand is crimped in place. I don't think this matters to anyone, but I've read a few comments here and there that this pin is removable. It isn't on my example. My studio flash sits atop this stand just fine and secures well. The pin comes with a, seemingly well made, 3/8" to 1/4" reducer just the right size to lose instantly unless you find a way to manage little gadgets in your work flow. My very first task for this stand is to hold a speedlight with one of those shoe mounts that accepts 1/4" so this is a welcome feature. A good stand for a good price.

Worth the money over cheaper stands
The quality of this stand is excellent. It is very stable and the way it folds down flat is quite ingenious. I feel a lot more confident in the metal castings on this stand than the plastic fittings on my admittedly much cheaper "heavy duty air cushioned" stand. I bought the other stand first because it only cost $40. I couldn't imagine why this model cost more until I purchased it and put it to use. Then I added up the cost of the lighting equipment I was placing on top of all those plastic fittings I realized I could no longer take a chance on the cheaper stand failing. And plastic clamps will fail under load at some point. It is just a matter of time and chance. All it takes is a nick in the fitting or an over tightened clamp. The removable double ended spigot on top of this stand is icing on the cake. I can use it as a 5/8 stud, 1/4 inch thread or 3/8 inch thread and switch between all three mounting options with no additional parts required in a matter of seconds. In contrast, many cheaper stands like the other brand I bought have a permanently attached stud with a 1/4 inch thread on top. A much less flexible arrangement. For those who are interested in country of manufacture, this stand is made in Italy.

Sturdy Stands
I agree with most of the other reviewers who said this is a great and stable stand. This may not be a comparable example, but I had cheap S-V stands from about 20 or so years ago, and I was concerned that they were dangerous, so I thought I'd try one of these stands and see what it was all about. Once I opened the box and set it up, it was all over for me. I'm so disgusted with those old stands that I'm throwing them out, and ordering two more of these stands immediately. Even though those old stands went with equally old S-V fixtures, I'm investing in the stands for at least the safety factor, if nothing else. I'll use those old fixtures for something, but at least I won't be facing a lawsuit because of those old stands. This is my first Manfrotto product (I had considered tripods, but went for the Vinten Vision Blue instead), and I'm very pleased with the prospect of having no worries about light stands. My advice is, don't skimp on the light stands. Even if you don't kill someone by it falling over, at least you'll be protecting your fixture, and looking like the professional you'll want to become.

A light stand that stands above the rest (except C stands)
The Manfrotto Light Stand – a true game-changer in the world of lighting equipment. This stand has proven itself to be incredibly handy, and the reliability of its air cushioning system has given me peace of mind during my shoots. But what sets this light stand apart is its ingenious design for transport. The ability to collapse it completely flat and seamlessly latch it onto other units of itself is a stroke of brilliance. This feature has made transporting my equipment a breeze – no more awkwardly fitting stands into tight spaces or dealing with multiple separate components. When it comes to value for money, the Manfrotto Light Stand takes the crown. Its convenience, durability, and thoughtful design have raised the bar for what a light stand can offer. As someone who has worked with various light stands, I can confidently say that this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. It's not just a purchase – it's an investment in convenience, efficiency, and peace of mind.

My favorite light stand
I've gone through many light stands. Still have most of them, but this is the one I reach for first, almost every time. It's larger (and therefore heavier) than some. This makes it especially sturdy, with a wide base. Not nearly as heavy as a C-stand though. I love that they pack flat. This makes a difference, even if you just have one. I now have two, and the fact that they clip together to minimize storage and packed travel space is really nice. They hold my alien bees/Einstein strobes well, even with large modifiers on there (7' umbrellas with additional diffuser covers are my biggest). This is my go-to light stand. If I need something tiny and lighter for a speedlight, I use a very compact Manfrotto stand. There are a few times I grab a C-stand with boom arm. But for 95% of what I shoot, if I'm adding lighting, it's on this stand, the 1004BAC.

Fantastic stand, substandard packaging
I have been using a Manfrotto tripod and head for over a year now, so I knew that I would love these light stands. I ordered 3 of them recently, and they were delivered a couple of weeks ago. Sadly, one box was open on one end, and a part was missing. There is a little threaded ferrule or fastener that threads on top of the stand, and it was missing from the box. I'm sure it is rolling around in a UPS truck somewhere. I called Amazon customer service, and they immediately placed a replacement order on my behalf. I also made a comment on the packaging in the appropriate place on the website. I received the replacement order today, and was dismayed to find this box is also open on one end. And sure enough, the same part is missing from this stand also. I have just got off the phone with customer service, and another replacement is on its way, and I should see it by Thursday. I begged her to make a note of the specific packing issues, and to request that both ends of the box be taped securely AFTER they inspect the stand to be sure the part is in place. I know that some will not think my review is appropriate. I am sorry for that. But after 2 go arounds, I have to get their attention on this matter! This is becoming very frustrating for me. I still gave it 5 stars, because that is what the product itself deserves.

Great stand, solid construction
Another well-made, quality product from Manfrotto. This stand was exactly what I needed. It features a 3-part extension. Could conceivably go up to 4 metres in height, but that would require a couple of sand bags to be the counterweight.

Great replacement for C stands
We switched from using C stands to using the Manfrotto stands with Gobi arms/heads. It's an awesome combo. Makes it easy to travel and pack. Haven'ts run into any gripping issues. Sure, they bend a slightly bit more when you book out a heavy light but they are really sturdy!
