I haven't tried these on a suit or hat, but I think it would depend on the thickness of the material of either item (hat or suit). I made a pin for my boss and she put it on her fleece jacket without any issues. I hope that helps--I do like the tacks, they seem to be well made.

Do you think I can epoxy them to wood so I can make custom wooden pins? Think of a small wooden .5-1 inch wooden disk (laser engraved).

I use Gorilla super glue gel and glue them to all materials. When gluing to a chrome or glass surface, lightly scratch the area you are going to apply the glue to. Super glue can't grab a smooth surface very well. With wood you won't have any adhesion problems. Super glue may harm varnish or paint.
