They like to wear shorts for swim but the traditional ones we found at the store were causing a rash in the thigh when they were wet. So I thought they needed something a little longer. These worked perfectly. I ordered an 8-10 for both of them and they fit them both. The short was just a little shorter on my 10 year old but still a good length. I would have liked them to have a liner but the girls said it was fine without one. However they are unlined and the big fat bulky cross-seam in the crotch would irritate my daughter more than sand would. All they have to do is add a small panty liner piece of fabric and they'd be golden. Now, you could wear bikini bottoms underneath this and combo them together but that unfortunately seems to defeat the purpose for me. There's not much difference between the ones labeled for girls and those for boys, other than colors. My kids are athletic and muscular so we size up to keep them comfortable in snug-fit swimwear. We didn't buy these for competitive sports and were happy to find the shorts don't chafe even when worn a big looser than this style of swim bottoms is often worn. They're well-made and hold up nicely to pool chlorine, ocean salt and repeated washing. I just wish they came in larger sizes.
