Definitely needs to be seasoned. Tried to fry sausage patties, they stuck badly! No big deal just need heated up and wipe down with some oil and that fixes the problem. I normally buy Lodge brand, they are fully seasoned. Cuisinel is a well made pan other than that. The casting is smooth with no pitting, cracks or flashing globs. Lid is very nice. I would buy again

The skillet is soo well made .. It says QUALITY,FIRST CLASS .and there is no doubt in my mind when I say..it will last a life time.I have not been able to use it,my ill health has seen to that.i am sure that heat distribution etc will be as it should be.It is with a heavy heart that I have to return it.

Simply the Best you will never regret buying a cast iron pan. It is a must to cook all meat in a cast iron pan. Fire tastier far quicker you save on hydro if you pay for your electric bill or gas. One valuable point for people that find a lot of brown comes off of their frying pan. That's because you're putting too much oil on it and and you need to just get a few drops and spread it very thinly. Spread it like a coat of paint on a wall turn your burner up on medium high let it cook off that seals it so you won't get all that brown off when you wash it properly. Some people think it's hard to clean. That is the problem why. Don't worry about what the outside of the frying pan looks like or the bottom you don't want to oil the bottom it's the inside that matters. If you think it's hard to clean you're the problem not the frying pan watch videos on YouTube ask g TP chat why is my water brown or my paper towel Brown when I wipe it why is it hard to clean and have clear running water when you rinse it and not Brown. Watch a YouTube video of a professional showing you how to clean it and care for it. Then when you learn that you will never regret it you will be so happy to cook in one, and to clean one.
