It does require some programming at your alarm panel to assign the detector to an alarm partition and zone. But there are many videos on YouTube that show you how to do it on a Honeywell Ademco alarm panel. You will need the security/maintenance code to access programming of the panel so find this first. Altogether, you need perhaps 10 minutes to hang it up (some drilling required, but no wiring), another 10 minutes to do the programming, and 10 more minutes to test that it's working and the alarm panel issues the correct information to your monitoring company. After doing one, I evaluated the vulnerabilities to break in of my house and added three more. It uses a CR123A lithium battery. These should last 3 to 5 years depending on the activity in the area being monitored.
