Totally awesome.
Only just received this and totally blown away!!!!!! This is an initial opinion and I will update accordingly after a few days. Bought this item mainly for streaming music via my echo dot and it paired within seconds. The build quality is top jolly, it looks and feels sturdy. The buttons are responsive and have a satisfying click when pressed. Now, the sound. Simply stunning!!!!!!!! I have owned several speakers and this runs rings around everything I've ever heard before. It has a satisfying bass without being too heavy, mid range isn't overpowering and treble is crisp and clear. Maybe reggae fans would like a little more bass but I find the balance perfect for a mix of music. (Bass etc could easily be enhanced using an equaliser but I find it just fine). The volume goes pretty loud! (I find that setting the speaker to max and setting the dot to 50% is more than adequate for use in a bedroom) Haven't tried using the input cable for wired reception yet not tried using the smart functions (google now) as I'm using it with Alexa but will update review accordingly. Update: Can only give top marks for this little beauty, it's got brilliant, well-balanced sound that can handle everything from reggae to classical to speech really well. Reggae is particularly well presented with good bass whilst not being overpowering. As I write this I'm listening to Bob Marley in my back garden and the sound is sublime. Once again, this is a truly fantastic speaker especially considering its size and is really and truly worth every penny and the google now feature works like a dream too! One minor flaws on this product that I have discovered is that when connected to my echo dot via Bluetooth, the volume is 20% less when unplugged compared to when charging. This is a generic issue and only happens when connected to my echo dot and not when connected to my phone or tablet. Even taking this minor irritation into account, this is in my opinion the best vfm small speaker out there. Highly recommended! Update:- Comparison between hive2 and hive2+. Even though these two speakers look identical, they aint!!!! Forgetting about the obvious difference i.e. the hive2+ has google+ and siri built in. Don't be tempted to buy the hive2 even if you aren't going to use google+ or siri because the 2+ has a much better quality and richer sound plus it's louder! The hive2 sound is adequate and as expected for the price range but the 2+ is a headturner!!!!

Superb little speaker - louder and with more bass than you'd expect
Recently purchased this little beauty based on a YouTube review of it, and I must say, like the reviewer, I am seriously impressed with this device. It is surprisingly loud (and for some reason seems to be louder over BlueTooth than directly plugged in via the AUX cable). The sound emitted is very directional and the surface you place the speaker on makes a difference to the bass (because of the downwards facing bass speaker). Even cranked up, there is very little noticeable distortion, and music retains clarity throughout the frequency spectrum. When you crank the independent volume controls up on the device, there is a faint hum which is more noticeable if you connect via the AUX cable. Pairing over bluetooth was a synch. Just hold the BlueTooth button down, and then search on your device (I have paired with a Samsung Galaxy S3 and Sony Xperia Z tablet). The KS Hive makes a cheery noise to indicate that you've successfully connected, and away you go. The device itself feels very sturdy, and I like the soft rubberised feel to the outer surface. It certainly feels like it would survive a few drops onto hard surfaces. Note that you CAN charge the device whilst it is operating. However, I have yet to fully test how long it will go before needing another charge. One issue I did find was that when I'd plugged the AUX cable in, the little LED lit up red and every 3-5 seconds it would emit a high pitched buzzing noise for about 3-5 seconds. I couldn't figure out why, and I just happened to hold down the BlueTooth button on the top of the device for a couple of seconds. Then it magically stopped. I can only think that the device was still in a BlueTooth pairing mode, and was indicating it was ready to pair (although why it would only buzz when the AUX cable was plugged in...). This does seem to be only a temporary fix as the buzzing returned when I restarted the device. I've contacted KitSound regarding this. ---------------------------- Update: This is what I got from KitSound (not ideal, but at least they are aware of the issue. And for me, it's not really an issue): Hi Sorry to hear there is a problem. The buzzing noise in aux mode is caused by the Bluetooth searching for a device to connect to. After 15 minutes, it will stop as the Bluetooth in the Hive will turn off. Although a less than ideal fix, to force this noise to stop, if you connect a device to the Hive via Bluetooth and then connect via aux, the beeping noise should not longer be present. Sorry for the inconvenience. Kind regards, Marc Smith Testing Manager

Good speaker, compact with decent bass levels.
This was a black friday purchase for me, so Amazon had it down at £34. I wanted a bluetooth speaker in order that I could listen to music whilst I was in the kitchen, shower or gardening. This absolutely fits the bill for my requirements. First up, most of the people who have had issues with bluetooth connections to the device don't appear to have fully charged it. I recommend doing this upon arrival. To charge my speaker too about 5 hours in total (not the 4 listed in the book), but it was absolutely dead when it turned up from Amazon. Quality? The speaker itself looks to be robust, all the buttons and connections appear to work well, so I'm happy with that. I've not tested it with an aux input though, I use bluetooth only. Sound. The speaker blew me away initally with it's quality, I was very impressed for the money. As others have mentioned the speaker has considerable bass levels, so if you don't like music with a kick this one isn't perhaps for you. I would say however that a lack of bass is normally the undoing of small speakers. I did find that the speaker struggled with a couple of specific frequencies when I was playing music through it, really deep low notes, which I think some bluetooth speakers just filter out completely. The kind of frequencies used in the rock/pop/trance that I listen to are absolutely fine though. It would be nice if there was an ability to amend the levels on the speaker - a basic equaliser, I know you can do this on music apps (I use Google music and you can tweek things in there), but perhaps something that lets you amend this on the device would be handy and negate lots of the 'bass heavy' comments and allow you to tailor the device to your ear. Minor gripes aside for £34 this was a really good buy, it's more than loud enough to fill a small room and personally I enjoy the punchy bass levels. 4/5

Brilliant little speaker - my daughter takes it everywhere!
We got the KitSound Hive2o Bluetooth speaker for my daughter, and she absolutely loves it. It’s been a daily companion — from her bedroom to the garden, and most recently to her school leavers beach party! ✅ Pros: Great sound for the size – it’s surprisingly punchy with good bass and clear vocals. Totally waterproof – perfect peace of mind for beach trips, pool days, or accidental spills. Super portable – lightweight with a handy carry loop, she chucks it in her bag and off she goes. ⛔️ Cons: It’s not the loudest speaker out there, but for personal use or small gatherings, it’s more than enough. The Bluetooth range is decent, but walls or long distances can interfere a bit. Final verdict: This is such a solid little speaker for teens, holidays, or anyone after a fun, fuss-free portable option. It’s affordable, reliable, and clearly built to tag along on adventures — my daughter wouldn’t leave home without it! We also now have it in baby pink!

A must buy for people who looking for good quality portable speaker and low budget
When I open the box, I am surprised by the quality of the speaker and all the assessors that comes with the speaker. The speaker comes with a pouch for carrying the speaker around, a 3.5mm to 3.5mm aux cable to connect to device that do not have bluetooth connection, a micro-usb cable for charging the speaker. As I like to listen to music and watching movies a lot, I always wanted to have a high quality speaker to replace my laptop's crappy speaker. The Hive is an excellent speaker, it is very loud and it does not change the audio quality a lot when the volume is turned to the highest. Although, the Hive does a good job with high volume, when the volume is low, there is a "windy" noise as if there is a breeze blowing in the background. The sound quality is astounding, it has very good base and treble, so it is perfect for any music genre. Compared to other portable speaker around this price range, the Hive must be the top of them all. I have been using this speaker every day since I bought it, I only need to charge it every 3-4 day, the battery was amazingly good, it can last for a very long time without needed to charge it. Charging the Hive is easy, you just plugged the micro-usb cable which comes with the speaker. At the bottom of the speaker, there is four rubber soles which if perfect for base lover because when loud base is played, the speaker will start to vibrate and the rubber will stop it from vibrating too much. The rubber is also a little bit sticky, so it can also stop the speaker from moving around.

The original Hive sounds better.
I'm confused... I have an original Hive too, and the sound quality of the new model simply isn't as good! The Hive2 sounds flat and kind of muddy - there is more treble coming from the original Hive and the range is somehow more rounded and realistic. I've compared them with Bluetooth and via the 3.5mm cable on both my Samsung Galaxy S7 and Nokia Lumia 1020 - the results are the same. Maybe I have a defective unit? During my testing, I also noticed that I can pause the music on the original Hive by pressing the Bluetooth paring button when connected with the 3.5mm audio lead. However I can't pause the music by pressing the MFB on the Hive2 when using the cable (it does state this in the manual but it's still disappointing to lose functionality in what is supposed to be an improved product) On top of this, even though my Galaxy S7 supports the Bluetooth AVRCP profile, the music pause/skip functions on the Hive2 will only work while the screen is awake on the phone - they do not work while the screen is off. This is likely down to the S7 since I can't pause music on the original Hive either, but I have no such problems on my 1020 with the screen locked (I'm obviously not marking the Hive2 down for this) I really enjoyed the original Hive and I expected the Hive2 to be a bit better in every respect, but unfortunately for me it isn't, especially it's disappointing sound quality As I only received the new one today I will do some more testing and revise my review if necessary. EDIT: Well I originally gave the Hive2 a two star rating due to the issues above. My brother also has an original Hive and when I let him hear the Hive2 his opinion was that the new version actually sounded better, not worse! He was happier with the sound with less treble and actually thought that was some more midrange compared to the original unit. With his second opinion in mind I thought perhaps with the use of the EQ on the music player on my S7 I could get close to my sound quality preference of the original with the benefit of a more "complete" sound. Well I think I'm on the way to achieving that now and I like the sound some more.... it's just a bit frustrating to have to change the EQ in order to do it. Ultimately it seems that that the Hive2 was not designed to sound the same as the original... the sound has changed and it simply will suit some people more than others. As an aside, good news about the music skip options - the issue was down to the default Bluetooth control settings in my music app (Poweramp). I changed the BT control settings and the pause and skip options work now :)

This is a proper, quality product. Would be prepared to pay more than the asking price.
i was very surprised with the quality of the Kitsound Hive from the moment i opened the box, and i had already expected it to be very good. it comes with a charging usb cable, a 3.5mm male to male audio cable, a small instruction manual and a sturdy travel bag in which you can snuggly fit the device and the cables nice and compact for travelling. it has an on/off switch, and 3 buttons at the top, one for pairing the bluetooth, and 2 volume buttons. It also has a mic, which i havent used. As far as sound quality, The treble is clear and sharp, the mids are especially good, forward enough not to get lost, voices and strings are clear and nicely separated. The base level to me is just right and pretty impressive given the power available. At max volumes the low end just drops off slightly, but with an mp3 player as a source at max volume, i didnt get any distortion at all. The volume is enough to fill the space in most situations without having to really punish it, unless you have a lot of background noise it really wont be an issue I have heard a friend's jawbone jambox, albeit about a year ago now, and the sound is similar from both devices. Considering the hive is 1/3 of the price of the Jambox, it blows it out of the water in terms of value for money. I can't compare to other products, but i'm extremely happy and surprised at the high quality and very low price.

Great value, great sound!
This really is a great bit of kit (!) especially considering the cheap price. It's really solid with a nice smooth texture and quite a weight to it - if certainly feels very well made and seems much more expensive than it is. It's also really easy to use, pairing is a breeze especially with NFC and unlike some Bluetooth devices it just works first time every time. The controls are solid, easy to use and allow skipping of tracks, volulme control, play/pause and also works with a phone call. The aux socket is a welcome addition for devices that don't have Bluetooth, or for quick playback from a friends phone for example. I've yet to run the battery down, but I used it for a good 5 or 6 hours and the battery status LED has still not gone to red which means it's less than 30% so the stated playback time of 12 hours seems feasible. Then of course there's the sound, which lets face it is all you really want to know - for the size it's by far the best sounding device I've heard. It's quite loud, crystal clear at all volumes and has surprisingly punchy bass along with clear higher notes without sounding tinny or otherwise washed out. It copes well with almost all kinds of music I've tried including heavy rock/metal, generic pop and classical, as well as voice and/or YouTube type videos. It's never going to compete with a proper speaker, but it's easily as good as similar devices that cost 2 or even 3 times as much. It comes with a USB charge cable, 3.5mm aux cable and a nice little carry case. The packaging could be improved, however, as it's really hard to open without it falling out in the process! Stop reading a buy one!

Audio Basso
