I love this little air purifier. I was skeptical at first and my husband thought I was wasting money on another contraption that would be stored in the attic soon. We recently adopted two kittens after our 18 year old kitty passed. In 18 years I never smelled that cat. These two kittens must be straight out of the dump because they are rough on the nostrils. We had to do something. We have a litter robot which I suggest for any cat owner, but it just didn't clean the box fast enough (Yes, the 7 minute window before it cycles clean was all the aroma needed to leave the laundry room and enter the rest of the house.) First, we changed their food. And then we changed their food again, and again, but it just wasn't working. So enter the TrueAir. I sat it right beside the litter box and started it off on high. Then about an hour later put it on whisper mode and let it be. The litter bombs have all but disappeared. Now if you are in the laundry room right beside the box at the time they let it go, then you will be odor bombed for a minute. But the odor doesn't leave the laundry room anymore and disappears in a minute or so (depending on the severity of the bomb) We have had this for a few months now and it still is working like a trooper. I keep it on the whisper mode unless I'm doing laundry and the sweet kitties that they are join me for some one on one time. Then I crank it to high and turn it back down a few minutes later. Overall, this is worth every penny. It is small, and easy to tuck away so it isn't visible. Also on the whisper mode I can't hear it. It does make a fan sound when you turn it up to high, but it still isn't a bad noise. And you can feel the air moving through it if you put your hand beside it. But the kicker is that it helps remove odors. A must for any smelly area.

FIRST OF ALL A BIG THANK YOU!!! This little air cleaner has made a world of a difference in our home. We live in a pretty old house that's hard to keep clean, due to dust coming in from who knows where and it being uninsolated and drafty, plus we have two short and two long haired cats that shed quite a bit as most indoor cats do. I've had it on since I got it on Nov 3rd. mostly on the medium setting. At first it seemed to be a bit loud on high, but after a few days it isn't that noticeable any more and like I said, I use it on medium.It's just like white background noise. But when I'm dusting, vacuuming and stirring things up, I will take it to that room and I'll turn it up on high and leave it in there for a couple hours before taking it back into the bedroom. It helps clean the air afterwards and makes it much fresher than it was without it. I've had to clean out the pre-filter that's in the front cover several times because it was packed with cat hair and "dust bunnies" that came out from their hiding places!!! Now don't think that this will get all of the hair and dust, but it will help a lot. it's not ment to replace your vacuum!!! I did not use the included carbon filters that came with this unit, cuz they really are not ment to be used with this device I don't think!?!? They actually fit a smaller air cleaner by Hamilton Beach, the "True Air" without a cord that plugs directly into the wall outlet. And I just happened to have this unit from long ago (15 years or so) and ran out of filters, so that was a bonus and nothing wasted. I researched the other filters available and found the Veva 6 pack of precision cut, premium activated carbon filters and it even indicates on the box that they fit this model# 04384 as well as 04383 and the 04386. So I got them at the same time and glad I did! They are the perfect size, covers the whole front of the HEPA style filter and stays in place with the plastic tab holders, without any gaps, unlike the ones provided. And also very affordable. So needless to say, things are a lot less fuzzy and dusty around here now and I may just have to get one or two more for the other rooms. I just want to wait and see our next electrical bill to make sure that it didn't go up to much before doing that, but I doubt it will. Hope this information is of help to anyone considering buying one of these and that my feedback on the filters help you as well. I feel that It is worth doing some research before just getting things that will be used on a daily basis, you should just have to put it together, plug it in and maintain it as directed and not have to worry about it. I am happy that I decided to get one and if you do, I hope it works as good for You too. ☺ When I come across really good items, I will go out of my way to share this information and hopefully make it easier for some of You to decide what to get. Cuts down on dust in my bedroom. It's 9x11 and a cat and a 75# dog hang out in there for 8 hours a day while I'm at work. My super shedding dog sleeps in there at night as well, so you can imagine all the hair and dog debris that builds up. It helps a bit with doggie aroma (I change my sheets 2x a week) but if you have a rug your pets lay on it's not going to really help 100%. (I'm removing the rug and just sticking with my wood floors because I can clean them once a week.) I used it in my kitchen (again, very small 8 x 10 room) and it worked great, and it worked well in my larger living room. My cat's litter box is in my 9 x 11 dining room (it's a lounge/study we don't use to eat in) and it very much cut down on the litter box smell, if I ran it from 7 pm to about midnight daily. I would recommend this for rooms with a litter box or places where your dogs hang out BUT as I've learned over the past two years no matter how much you wash your dogs there's going to be a dog smell on fabrics. I removed rugs in all their favorite rooms and that helps the most. Without those fabrics, this works to cut down on all that doggie dust floating through the air. It's quiet enough that I can leave it on high all night, but I like white noise. It's not as loud as even a quiet fan, which is nice.

Bottom line: A very nice performing air cleaner for the price and has reasonably priced replacement filters. It's virtually the same as the Allergen-Reducing model except that this one comes with carbon filters for odor reduction. This model is the better choice if you are looking to reduce odors as well as dust. Full review: I needed an air cleaner for my office to help get rid of the smell of smoke (been cutting back, but still can't kick the habit). I've been using a Holmes air cleaner than helps, but the office is big enough than a second one was needed. I saw this and the Hamilton Beach 04383 True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner and could not determine from looking at them what the difference was (other than a price difference). After doing some research on the Hamilton Beach web site it appears they are exactly the same except that the Pet model has the ability to use a replaceable carbon filter in front of the HEPA filter. The unit itself is nicely designed, and I very much like that it can be used either upright or on its side. It comes with a base plate if you want to use it upright. The plate comes off easily (no tools) so you can position it on its side. It includes 4 non-slip foot pads to keep it stable when it is sitting on its side. The unit looks very nice. It has a three speed fan. On the lowest speed I can't hear it at all. Granted, it's not moving much air either. The mid speed is still soft enough that I can keep it close to my desk and not have the sound be irritating or interfere with a phone call. At the high speed it is still quiet enough that I can have a conversation next to it without any problem, but the sound is grating to have in the background constantly. The main filter is what Hamilton Beach terms "HEPA-grade." That often means that it is not a true HEPA filter, so it won't pull out the really small stuff out of the air. But it appears up to the task of basic air cleaning. Hamilton Beach boasts that the HEPA filter is "permanent." While you can extend the life of the filter by vacuuming it, nothing is permanent. It will need to be replaced eventually, especially if you're using the cleaner for odor control as I am. It also has a very thin prefilter than can be cleaned. The only purpose of the prefilter is to trap the real big chunks, such as visible dust from a litter pan. The carbon filters go on top of the HEPA filter. Each is about half the length of the HEPA filter, and are held in place with snap-in plastic bars. You need 2 carbon filters per use. It comes with 2 and the cost of replacements is not too bad - about $12 for a pack of 3. Remember, you need 2 filters, so a 3 pack will only last 1.5 changes. They claim the carbon filter will last for 90 days. They offer standard carbon filters, pet carbon filters, and smoke-eater carbon filters. (I'll take the cynical view and assume that there really isn't any significant difference between them other than how they are marketed.) You can also buy generic carbon filters (search on Amazon for Universal Carbon Filters) and cut them to size to save even more on the filter cost. The quality of the generics can be hit or miss, however. It comes with a rather novel way to remember to change the carbon filter. It's easy to use but hard to explain - there's a disk that you press, and it creates a red line that slowly expands over the course of 3 months. So, when the red line is full, it's time to replace the filter. I've not had this for 3 months so I can't speak to how accurate a time keeper the red line is, but it's a nice idea. So, does it work well? I think so. It has cut down the smoke smell. Not completely, but it's doing a better job than other air cleaners I've used, some of which cost a lot more. Now, its intended task is for pet smells. If it can handle smoke, it certainly can put a dent in kitty litter odor (as a multi-cat household, I know first-hand what that can be like as well). Plus, the fan noise at the low speed is so soft that it certainly would not bother a cat even if the air cleaner was placed right next to the litter box. The mid speed might bother some cats, but only if it was right next to their box. While this is not a hospital-grade air cleaner it is an effective way to drop the smell level down affordably and quietly, plus get rid of dust and some pollen/allergens. I'll give it 5 stars based on it's price-performance level and the fact that replacement filters don't cost an arm and a leg.

I know that is a funny headline, but I was stuffed up a lot of the time, and I just thought I had to live with it, or else take allergy meds that dried out my mouth. I opted to just live with it, as my allergies were not "that bad". Well, I decided to buy this unit and run it in my bedroom. I noticed the next morning my sinuses were clear! I wondered if it was just a fluke, but the next night, same thing, I am breathing so much better and sleeping better I assume too. This is a relatively inexpensive unit, so what have you got to lose. I don't know how large of a room this will clean, but it works for our 10'x12' room just fine. Place it on a bedside table, run it on high for the daytime hours, switch to med or low for sleeping. Doesn't disturb me on Low, kind of a nice low white-noise. Excellent find! Wish I had bought one earlier. I may get another for our 2nd bedroom. We have a dog and cat. * You MUST read instructions... since I also read a lot of the reviews here I knew that the filter inside was wrapped in plastic, and you obviously need to remove that and install the carbon filters that come along with it. Runs perfectly. I can't say enough great things about this purifier. ** Update: Has been a couple months now, and this unit is still working perfectly. I run it nearly constantly on the very lowest setting in the bedroom. I've vacuumed out the filters, and am still using the original carbon filters. I would highly recommend this filter as a great alternative to the more expensive models for a bedroom or small living space. I LOVE it.

I bought the thing to clean up the air in my room, which was full of dust and made me constantly sneeze. Carpets are the worst. Anyway, this thing did a pretty good job. On the quiet and medium settings, it's pretty darn quiet. The highest settings though are fairly loud. It comes with two pre-filter type packages with activated charcoal or something... I actually just threw them away, and the stuff inside basically looked like kitty litter. Anyway, those things don't really fit super well, and I'm not sold on their efficacy. There's a pre-prefilter (so a thing that's before those two packet things) and it does a pretty decent job of stopping most large particles of dust. I wish it was easier to clean, but it's not terrible. The HEPA filter itself is OK. I'm not an expert on these things, and the filter does a decent job of making the room go from "Makes Paul sneeze" to "Doesn't make Paul sneeze" so I guess I can't really complain. The major downside is that it's got some sort of proprietary tab thing you're supposed to buy, and open up then place on the top. It'll tell you when you're supposed to change the filter out. I don't know why, but that bugs me. I've had another air filter (that was too loud to keep in my room, as it was disruptive to my now-ex's sleep) for going on 20 years, and it's got a pre-filter, and a filter. When one of them gets clogged up, there's a light that turns on, and you vacuum the thing out and hit a button to reset it. TWENTY YEARS I've been using that thing, and it still works. Why couldn't this thing have something like that? It works, but I can't recommend it. Would not buy again.

This review is being written only several days into the machine's use, but I am confident enough in it's performance to give you my opinion. My mother has an unfortunate sensitivity to pet dander, among other allergens, for which she takes careful and regular medication when visiting me. I own a cat. Despite my vigilant work dusting, vacuuming, washing, and airing out every square inch of my living space she suffers asthma, itchy eyes, headache and stuffy sinuses. She arrived almost a week ago, after several days in my house she was on the brink of a sinus infection when the air purifier arrived. I unpacked it, took the filter out of it's bag and slipped the carbon filters into place, plugged it in and switched the dial to quick clean. Within a few hours the air was delightful to breath, I have a small cat allergy myself and noticed the improvement. My mother's allergy symptoms have all but vanished, and I'm delighted to have a solution to this problem. Features I Like: -The noise levels are just right. Whisper quiet is nearly silent, medium sounds like a quiet fan to me, and quick clean moves a lot of air but isn't even as loud as the low setting on my kitchen fan. -No ionizer. Contrary to what one reviewer said, there is no ionizer in this model. However, in reading the manual you will find that there is another similar model with that feature (Ionizers release small amounts of ozone, a respiratory irritant and pollutant.). -Compact design, allows for me to place it anywhere I need it to be. Kitchen table, bedroom nightstand, on my desk, it seems to fit everywhere I've wanted it so far. Update: Eight months in, still works. Anytime my allergies flare up I close the windows and switch this thing on. Vacuum it out every week or month depending on how much it's been in use. I love sleeping with it on, I never wake up feeling asthmatic.

Changed OEM add-on filters for a VEVA full size carbon filter - this thing really rocks now I'm up'ing it to 4 stars - very noticeable difference! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Updated to a 3 star rating - thoroughly cleaned the air in a 380sq ft room within 24 hrs - very noticeable difference when we opened the door - and a second one ran "whisper quiet" overnight allowing us to fall and stay asleep. Air quality was somewhat better in the morning. Still not sure about its efficiency and price point but it does do its job as an air purifier well. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Good: -Quick delivery and received properly packaged with all components bagged and sealed. -Good instructions and relatively easy to assemble although very confusing why the shape of the carbon elements doesn't seem to fit properly into the cavity where the filter is. They are literally odd shaped for the enclosure. Nevertheless, they did go in there and stayed in there once the retention bars are inserted. -Whisper Quiet is actually "whisper quiet" so if you place in proximity to a work space, bed or crib it will be very easy to work or sleep. However, like all other units low noise is low intake speed which equals very low air volume processing. -A compact unit which is table-top sized - it has a few settings from Quiet to Quick but not much else - simple to operate. The Bad: -Price is actually very high compared to others in what you get with this unit dollar for dollar. -This is not an energy star rated unit therefore it will have a high draw and inefficient output meaning that you will pay much more than necessary for electricity if you're running this all the time which most people do (me included). -How good each of us see this unit being will be totally relative to your environment and mostly anecdotal since this unit has absolutely no ratings that I can find on something as basic as CADR/Watt (Clean Air Delivery Rate per Watt) or CA/CFM (Clean Air Cubic feet per minute). I think many of the pictures other consumers are providing are useful in that at least we see what's trapped in the filter of the unit. -The retention bars/railings at the filters are flex plastic and I see them warping and breaking after a few cleanups. -Manufacturing wise, this is a budget-unit - no-frills, and not much different than many others in that it has a fan/blower unit that sucks air through filter and carbon elements and then expels air on the other side and likely does not do that at all efficiently. Net-net ... if you're on a tight budget this will do something to improve your environment but it will be purely observational as to how much it will actually help you. I'm middle of the road on this (return or keep) and I'll give it a week to see how it does.

Great air purifier which I use to filter the smell of cigarette smoke and cooking odors seeping in from adjacent condo units around me. Very quiet on lowest setting, but I use higher settings when I need fast air turnover and results. I like that this air purifier has more than one type of filter and that is why I decided it was well worth the price. This purifier can either stand upright or just slide the base off and lay the purifier horizontally on its side. Easy to assemble (install filter and add base). Happy to recommend this air purifier to others.

Ça torche.. mon deuxième purificateur, le premier était plus cher et tirait/poussait moins d'air et était bien plus bruyant, celui-ci fonctionne à fond et le son est vraiment tolérable, au minimum on ne l'entend presque pas, l'intermédiaire est aussi très peu bruyant, je le recommande même si je ne l'ai que depuis quelques jours.. Mise à jour, il fonctionne 24/24 365 jours par année depuis septembre 2018, je dirais que c'est un très bon achat, les filtres sont aussi de bonnes qualités, excellent produit, je le recommande.
