It's not the Nakamichi of old, but it's still a really solid deck NA1200S
I have this deck in a Mazda Miata hooked to a 2 channel Kenwood amp and a Kenwood powered sub. I can't comment on the sound quality or volume through the factory speaker wires as I'm not using them. This deck replaced a Jensen that was pretty close to the price point but had a few more features. I didn't change the input levels on the amp or sub but my sound quality did improve a bit. This is most likely due to the Nakamichi having a better equalizer than the Jensen. I do wish it had a volume knob, but the volume controls are pretty easy to get to and they respond quickly. I have a memory stick with 600+ songs attached to the rear USB input on the deck and it takes about 15 seconds to get it's mind right when I start the car. I also have a rearview camera installed and the picture quality on the screen is good as long as you don't mess too much with the color of the display. "not sure why there, but if you are using a custom color on the deck, the camera also displays that color change" I still give the deck 5 stars for exceeding my expectations at this price point. The rear rca's are also the subwoofer rca's so if you're running a full 4 channel set up with a sub, this is not the deck you want unless you have a very flexible amp with a sub output on it. For me it was ideal as I've just got front speakers and a sub. Anyway, don't let the average reviews sway you, it's a quality deck that gives you a lot of tonal control.

It sounds great with the stock speakers
I self-installed this unit, and it was very simple to install with the purchase of an inexpensive Metra dash kit and Metra wiring harness. I set up the wiring harness in my living room in about 10 minutes, and then the unit install only took about 30 minutes in an '02 Mustang after spending about double that time watching install videos on YouTube (to learn how to detach the dash panels). It sounds great with the stock speakers, has a great look with easy selection of colors, responsive touch screen, clear screen resolution, and it creates playlists quickly from a cheap thumb drive I plugged in. The playlist will display artist and album info with album artwork, so I get the iPod look and feel with a $10 thumb drive. I also installed a license plate mounted rear camera to the unit, and it works well. I have one complaint that's related to built-in safety features, and they're the reason I gave this unit 4 stars instead of 5 stars. I didn't buy a bypass for video in motion as I have no need or interest in playing video while driving. However, that means the unit has to be wired to the parking brake, and I wasn't able to locate the parking brake wire or any videos or information online showing how to locate the wire. There are plenty showing how to bypass the safety feature, but I wanted to install it "correctly". As a result, I can't play DVDs at all. I may end up just buying a bypass to finish the install, but it would be nice if that wire didn't exist (maybe it's a regulatory requirement; I don't know). Second, I have to turn off the rear camera on the touch screen after backing out of the driveway or the screen displays a black screen with a warning along the lines of "images may be reversed and objects may be closer than they appear". It's a small annoyance on a great unit, and I expect a professional installer would have been able to easily overcome both issues. Professional installation would have almost doubled my cost, so the small annoyances are ok while I do more research. Would I buy this unit again? Absolutely.

08 F250 Super Duty
Happy with the radio. For those of you with the 08 and similar super duty: Buy the trim kit, buy the radio adapter harness, buy the parking brake bypass, buy the antenna adapter. If you do the backup cam, you will need extra video cable. Im very happy with my purchase but I wish there was more information with regards to what we need to buy to make it actually happen! Seems like everything is disabled without the parking brake on. For those of you who are smart enough to dial or use aps at traffic lights or parked without setting the parking brake, the bypass is worth the money. Lastly, the nav kit is $300. Think thats a lot. The factory touchscreen from ford is about $650. If you want nav, this unit and all the pieces will cost the same but the factory one will plug right in. Not sure how good it is though.

Cheap, ugly, and loud.
The good: The price is very good for anyone who wants to put a little bling into an old vehicle. This unit is solid and well made. The screen is very bright and can be easily seen in the day. It has a ton of tone controls and can pump out massive amounts of bass (if you want to break the windows.). The bad: You cannot change the background picture to one of your own unless you bypass the video lockout. (I.E. - buy yourself one of the bypass units sold on Amazon when you order this stereo.) The screen layout is small, ugly, and poorly organized. It's like someone spent one year designing the unit and one day programing it. Tiny push button controls on a screen this large is just plain head scratching. Lastly, it gets lousy radio reception. If you can swing an extra $100, I would suggest you spring for the model with HD radio built in. This doesn't bother me much because I tend to listen to MP3s off a flash drive I plugged in to this unit (USB cord included).

Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down
I went back and forth between this Pioneer and a Kenwood bluetooth model. There were some benefits with the bluetooth but also came with problems. I like to keep it simple, clean and functional. Thats what the Pioneer gives me. Great quality sound, many equalizer options along with pass filters that are pretty close to accurate. I am loving the Mixtrax setting, it takes some advantage of the big display screen and has colors flashing to the beat. Not enough to distract from the road either! Everything works great. I have a kenwood amp, 4 jbl gto 6x9s, 12 inch jbl amped sub. Its all works well together. The only gripe I have is the compatibility with Android. Iphone compatibility is through the roof but my Galaxy S3, S4, S5 Note 3, and S7 Edge are NOT compatible. I'm stuck playing my files on my phone through the aux cable and the quality is diminished as with aux cables old technology. I use the Usb more often and the data base save is great for quick access to music when you hop in. This thing boots up and starts playing music within 20 seconds. The Kenwood used to take a minute sometimes 2 or 3 minutes with bluetooth. Thats precise road time ! I started with this model then went to the Kenwood for bluetooth and uploadable wallpapers. I came back for stable audio connection and better quality in build and screen display. I highly recommend this model as a first full screen display head unit. The audio quality beforeI added my amp was very good. I could very easily distinguish the better of the w head units.

Epic Turd
This review is for the Nakamichi 1700 double din car receiver. The seller has many items that have been listed under the same item posting, so you will see reviews here for many different units. Once I opened up the box the first problem was obvious; the screen had bubbles all over it. I overlooked this and installed it anyhow. What a mistake to have this unit even near my truck. My subwoofer didn't work with this unit, regardless of settings. The display when using Bluetooth actually misspelled the artist's names and the song titles. So when listening to the Eagles, it displays "Eagledts7!". Hotel California would become "Hotelohv cAliffnrina1". Moving past that nonsense, it decided that it would disconnect my Bluetooth every five to ten minutes. When switching from different sources it would turn the volume all the way down. All in all, just a waste of money and time. Save yourself the frustration and just buy something else or just put this unit in the trash when it arrives.

Really good radio for the money
I absolutely love this radio. I had an android phone and hooked the usb up to it and it took about 2 minutes for it to register but it eventually did and played the music flawlessly. However, if you have an iPhone, that's when this stereo comes to life. You will be able to listen to pandora with all of the album art, artist, song title and everything! The colors to choose from are very nice as well, Your gps also plays through the speakers, when it says something it softens the music in the background and says what it needs to say and then right back to the music. You can't talk through it on the phone because this one is not Bluetooth capable. Which is the only downfall in my book. Easy install and like I said, if you have an iPhone. I would definitely suggest this unit! All in all an excellent unit. Btw I'm using the iPhone 5s and it work with it. So I'm supposing it will even work with the 6 and 6+. Have fun with it!

Very good stereo but a few simple improvements could make it better
This is a really great receiver for the price and the sound is excellent (the most important part of a stereo). However, there are some things that Pioneer could have done to make this better. 1. You can not scroll through your music catalog using the remote; you have to use the touchscreen. This is absolutely stupid and makes the remote pretty much useless. You can use it for the volume, pause, rewind, fast-forward, and to go the next or previous track, but if you want to find an artist, album, or song, you can't do that with the remote (I contacted Pioneer's customer support thinking maybe I was just not understanding something and they said themselves that it's not possible). So it's very difficult (and dangerous IMO) to scroll through using the touchscreen while you're driving. When you have over a thousand songs and many artists to go through, a remote would be helpful. Also, the scroll is on the right side of the touchscreen, which means you have to stretch your arm even further from the steering wheel which is a pain. 2. The catalog settings for your music in the database automatically get deleted every time you turn off your car, and you have to push the "tag" button to reorganize everything again. I don't understand why this has to be so complicated. 3. The picture quality is lousy. I was excited about buying this stereo because I wanted to see the album art while a song is playing, but the picture quality is terrible. Even if you have a high quality picture attached to the song, it shows up distorted and scraggly instead of smooth. That's disappointing. Those are my three big complaints, but like I said, for the price it's a good deal since the sound quality is great. This model does not come with Bluetooth, but I already knew that before purchasing and that doesn't bother me since I don't care about Bluetooth. All of my music is stored on a USB flash drive and connected to the stereo.
