Oetiker invented the StepLess ear clamp in 1979. The ear clamp’s special design eliminates steps and/or overlaps on the inner circumference of the clamp for a 360° leak-free seal. The clamp that fit was the "21mm" clamp part number 16700024, marked with the number 21 on the clamp. I also tried the 19.8mm clamp on a short piece of spare hose, it fit, but not as good as the 21. It was nice to have the various sizes, and now I know that the 21 was actually the "best" size to use.
