Vicks Warm Steam Vaporizer & Humidifier for Small and Medium Rooms

When I lived in Colorado 30+ years ago, I got sinus infection infections all the time, due to the extremely dry environment. I was miserable and tired of getting sinus infections. I bought one of these Vicks warm, moist vaporizer 30+ years ago and it was a Lifesaver! I’ve been visiting family again since 2024 and I’ve been miserable with the dry air. I was so excited to find the Vicks vaporizer on Amazon. It hasn’t changed and it’s an amazing and life-saving vaporizer. There’s nothing like the warm steam right next to your bed. I highly suggest this product it’s affordable and effective.

This humidifier has some quirks but once you understand how it works and how to maintain it its an amazing value. Daily Usage Many people have complained about the unit leaving behind weird rocky deposits in the tank which is understandably questionable until you realize this is just the minerals in your water being left behind after the water has boiled off. This thing works by passing an electrical current between two conductive rods housed inside the black plastic tube in the middle of the unit. Mineralized water is more conductive and will speed up the water to steam conversion rate. If you put a pure demineralized water in it you would get very little steam if any and would have to add some salt to it. I have two that I fill each night and usually leave the remaining water in from the night before which contains a higher concentration of minerals and negates the need to add salt on top of saving water. Maintenance (5-10 minutes) If you use these daily they will probably slow down and become pretty dirty after 2-4 months depending on your water. At this price you could just buy a new one but there is a way to overhaul it and get it operating like new! I have done this now 3-4 times for both my Vicks humidifiers but obviously cannot make any guarantee that it will work for you or that you wont hurt yourself or break your humidifier. When your unit seems to be slowing down and there are endless flakes of mineral deposits coming out of the black plastic tube you need to do a deep cleaning and here is how. 1) Unplug the unit from the wall!!! 2) Use a star head screwdriver to remove the 2 screws on the top of the unit. 3) There are three pieces of plastic that will come apart at this point, blue top, white base with the electrical components and bottom black cover. If like me you do not enjoy the blue light that pours out the top during operation, take this opportunity to remove the top cover and snip the little light bulb and resistor away from the incoming electrical leads. 4) When you remove the black cover on the bottom you will expose 2 long rods covered in mineral deposits and likely tons of flakes of minerals clogging the boiling chamber. You can use a flathead screwdriver to scrape away the stuff on the black plastic. Vinegar might help. 5) This next part is a little delicate. The two electrode rods themselves currently encrusted in mineral deposits are made up of some sort of black semiconductive ceramic/charcoal like substance that will break if you are not careful. Use a pair of wire snipers or pliers to carefully squeeze the outside of one rod at a time until the shell of minerals cracks off exposing the black core in the middle. Repeat until you have two clean black rods. Eventually, after several cleanings the black rod may disintegrate which means it's time to replace. 6) Put it back together and watch it boil off water like new!

It doesn’t last very long, but hey works great while it does. I only used distilled water until about 2-2.5 months of use then started doing half distilled and half tap water. Now it doesn’t work. When plugged in the light turns on and you can hear it’s in and trying to build steam, but no steam comes out. It is warm to touch, but no steam comes out even when adding salt or just distilled water.

This was purchased for my Granddaughter who was sick and this product work FABULOUS!!! 20 mins after setting it up and putting it on she was FINALLY able to sleep.

Better priced than the stores . Good size , steaks good with a pinch of salt . Without the pinch of salt there isn’t much steam. No off switch which pulling it from the wall is unsafe . It does the part but be careful

The standard we had growing up had a larger bason more square. Maintenance is low. With my first child on the way I selected the new cool mist. Read the pamphlet on maintenance and regarded it; it was already there. I learned much through one machine. The calcium in the water adhered to the heating element that seemed like a mixture between metal and stone. The unit was unrecoverable. It stopped working and that was the results of expectation, the calcium particles in the water somehow rendered the heating element unable to continue. the problem with owning anything is having to tend to its nature, it's requirements. when child number two came along, i ordered the tide and true, the same style mom used for the least amount of maintenance and I followed the directions for it's maintenance; the difference of a few years and the death of a machine. I still prefer to use the rub instead of the liquid, the solid rub will melt down into liquid form and does the same thing without the deciation or the added expense, but if the liquid is inexpensive and the rub precious while money isn't, then the scale tips on purchasing both if the father of my children or my child had that moment of being in the seat of decision for the future purchase, or even you dear sir or lady, may this review help you further in feeling confident in your decision on which style to purchase in humid vs mist. these machines last, likely mom's still works but unable to verify. they are also quiet and have a peaceful noise that bespeaks of wellness and being tended to.

Este producto lo compré para que mi bb no tuviera resecas las mucosidades durante la noche. Es muy funcional, junta bastante vapor y no gasta mucha energía. Algunas veces hay que ponerle un poco de sal para que produzca cantidad suficiente de vapor. Además, puedes ponerle tabletas vic para que deje un olor a menta. Al producto se le junta una especie de salitre, que de vez en cuando hay que retirar, pero no es complicado.

I usually have bronchitis every fall and spring and now I can add dry eyes to the list, so everything there needs moisture. I used to have a vapoizer as a kid growing up and it helped so much, so I purchased two of these. After reading the reviews I decided to buy one and try it. I had to add salt quite a few times to get it to really throw out the water, but really how much does a box of salt cost, compared to being sick. I love it so much now I have one in my bedroom. I put it on for a few hours before bed and another one in my living room where I spend a lot of time.
