When I was trying to find a small quiet fan, I felt silly reading dozens of reviews of dozens of fans. Now I feel even sillier writing one.... But this fan is worth the silliness. 1) This is small (2-3 fists (pinky down, thumb up) tall x 2-3 fists wide including the blades while running) - or just get a tape measure and look the dimensions. 2) quiet. The previous fan for wood drying (heat with wood) was a fixed blade (this fan has cloth blades that make it quieter) that I could hear from 30 feet away at night. This one I can't hear. 3) Moves enough air to dry firewood or cool electronics (2 actual usages to date - yes, I've bought two). I believe that most folks want more air to move past them than is necessary for effective cooling. This certainly won't make for a dramatic movie scene with your hair blowing in the wind - but you don't actually need that much airflow to cool - the air can slowly wash over you and collect heat, them move that heat away from you. 4) safe - the blades are cloth (I know it sounds crazy but trust me - it works). If your hands hit the blades (no blade cage as it isn't necessary), they don't hurt at all. My kids play with the fan the use to cool them down while practicing band. They prefer the sound and feel of the cloth blades flicking past their fingers over spending time practicing - yes it is a regular discussion point as to whether that counts as practice time (spoiler: it doesn't). 5) can't say how it would be for travel from 1st hand experience but I suspect it would be great if your purpose is cooling. If you are after white noise, then not so good. Gave it a speculative 4-star for travel. It would travel well as the cloth blades can't break when packed or stuffed into a bag. 6) on/off is behind the fan and it can be a little 'daunting' to reach over the fan to turn it off. It actually isn't daunting at all as the blades have not cage around them (not at all necessary - reduces bulk). The blades don't hurt at all if they hit you - they'll just startle you and make a 'flapping' sound. Once you play with for a band-practice minute or two, you'll adjust to the sound and think nothing of it if you happen to hit the blades. tldr; Well build product that works very well. Would be awesome for small desk fan in office or spot cooling (electronics) or drying (wood, drying rack, etc). If you want white noise or your hair to be blown back you'll be disappointed (and I suspect you should think about how much cfm you actually need or expect for a 2 1/2 fist x 2 1/2 fist fan).

I purchased this fan in 2015 and I'm using it right now still so I decided to write a review. Have used it all summer yet again this year. It runs 24/7 much of the time. Motor always stays cool and runs consistently, smoothly, and quietly (no rattling). Have taken it on the road when visiting family. It is unobtrusive and does not annoy others. The fan blades are made of a cloth material. They do a great job providing a cool breeze, and there's no dust that gathers on them over a winter, no fan grill needed around the soft but strong "blades" to gather dust and debris. A perfect solo fan - great for a desktop, bedside, next to a recliner. I'm on my 11th year with the one I bought on Amazon.

Vornado has several interesting fan designs that may nudge you to try their products over any of the other generic fans out there. The Zippi is one such fan, resembling the propeller and nose cone from a vintage fighter plane. Even though the shell on this small fan is plastic, it has some heft. The flipstand is metal with rubber bits to tamp down vibrations and noise, and to keep the fan from rocketing off your desk and into the horizon (yeah right). With some clever positioning you can hang it from the flipstand and point it where it's needed. While operating, the fan is almost silent and the nylon fabric fan blades almost disappear, to the point I forget it's running even on the higher setting. It spins fast enough to deliver a refreshing stream of air from across your desk without any distracting roar, like you'd get from a typical hard-bladed fan. I'll point out, the product shown in the listing is a 3D render, the fan blades while resting are floppy and give the impression of wilted flower petals. Not a problem though since this fan is meant to be folded and tossed into a storage drawer when not being used. Another thing I'll point out that no one asked for, the fan's design is simple enough that it's a good candidate for customizing. Paint some stripes on the propeller edges to get a ring effect, or slashes to get a spiral effect. Cover the shell in stickers or paint naked ladies on it, both great options. The only thing that bugs me about the fan is it needs to be plugged into a wall outlet, there's no option for USB-power. Also, I think this would be a much cooler product if the speed was adjustable via some kind of in-line throttle control instead of having only 2 speed settings. Frankly, I think all fans should be adjustable that way, people love playing with fans with throttle controls.

I was researching a new desk fan when I came across the Vornado Zippi. I can honestly say I was a bit skeptical of its function because of the design, but based on the other reviews I read and the low price point ($19.99 at the time of review) I decided to give it a try. I don’t own any other Vornado products but I know the brand’s build quality and air moving reputation is hard to beat. Design: Although the dimensions are listed here, it was slightly smaller than I imagined. However, it is intended for use as a personal/desk fan so the smaller form factor is to be expected. The rugged plastic body is about the size of an egg-shaped softball. It is suspended on a sturdy metal base with stationary rubber feet. The body can rotate 360 degrees on the base to fold for easy travel/storage and to get the correct angle. When folded up, the fan can easily fit in an overnight bag or larger work bag if you don’t feel comfortable leaving it on an unattended desk overnight. I feel that this travel size if perfect for those like me who like a fan on when they sleep on the go. I will definitely be taking the Zippi with me on any trips I go on because the form factor is so small. The blades are not rigid like other open design fans where the blades are made from foam. These blades are flimsy when not rotating and are made from nylon with a tiny piece of foam sewn into the end of each blade. As the motor rotates the blades go slightly stiff and move the air. If an object touches the blades, the nylon gives so that there is no resulting damage/injury. The motor is a two speed motor with low and high speeds. The cord is an ample length for most, although because the distance it blows effectively is quite short, finding an adequate fan placement with an outlet within reach may be an issue for some. Function: As a personal fan I think that the Zippi performs well. The air movement it produces is sufficient to keep an individual cool. At low speed the breeze loses its gust at about 3 feet; it can still be felt, but just barely. With the fan blowing on me on low I felt that the wind was comparable to a slight summer breeze blowing through a window. However, I found that this was a bit too slow for me, so I keep it on high most of the time. The other reviews are correct; at low the noise is very minimal. At high speed, the air can be felt at a distance of about 3.5 feet before becoming indiscernible. On high the noise is louder, but not distracting. It is a good white noise that would be good for sleep or concentrating at work. As a result of the open design the air is less directed. I found that for cooling myself the optimal distance was between 1 and 2 feet. After that the breeze is felt, but dispersed over a larger area. If you need more concentrated wind at a greater distance, the Zippi may not be the best option for you. Overall Thoughts: If you’re looking for a solid personal fan that can cool on the go or on a desk at work I think that the Zippi is a great choice if you’re willing to spend a bit more on a small fan. There are certainly other cheaper options out there, but they can tend to be noisier and have a low build quality. For $20 the Zippi does the job right and comes with a 3 year warranty through Vornado, so be sure to register it in case there are any issues! If you need something that will cool multiple people at once, is more powerful, or directional you may want to consider other options. For my personal use I give the Zippi 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a cute, quiet, efficient little fan. Not the thing to move a lot of air, but perfect for a desk or to move the air around a bit while sleeping. I have bought two and use them every night.

this was a replacement for a light green version of the same fan i've had for YEARS. one reason i love this fan is because the blades are fabric and the motor is super quiet. it was weird that it sounded much louder out of the box, but after one night of running, it's as quiet as the one i had before. very happy purchase.

I've been populating our living space with these almost hand-size folding (for storage) Zippi fans ever since they came out, many years ago now. They've lasted indefinitely until/unless actively damaged -- dropped from height, or other mechanical impacts. I use them every day and night. I really can't think of any drawbacks I've encountered over the years, and I've had something like ten or 12 of these: five currently in use, some in storage for future location ideas, maybe three finally discarded over a decade due to mishaps. They are powerful within a reasonable range. One of them currently dries damp clothing from a distance of six feet. I have one near my spouse's chair to help cool him when he's just back from exercise and he loves it; that's also about six feet. I've one on my desk two feet away, one next to my bed that moves ambient air pleasantly towards me, and others. Like any fan, their quietest period is when they're brand-new, but the noisiest they've ever gotten for me is a discreet low "whoosh" up close, hardly noticeable otherwise. I can't praise the nylon blades enough. Short of putting your unprotected eye or face into their close orbit, there's no way I can imagine that these could hurt anyone. I tend to stop mine to change the setting dial on the back of the unit by simply putting my hand over its nose and using fingertips to move the back dial. Astonishingly easy and safe. I'm big on safety. The very thick wire base is light but strong, arcing up to the fan head with a bend calculated to buffer the fan's vibrations easily. Five sturdy nonslip "beads" threaded/fastened around it at intervals keep the fan from "walking". The head of the fan rotates up and down, holding well for me as positioned, and the side-to-side adjustment is easily done by repositioning the base on its small footprint. Folded for storage, the fan's base actually protects the head somewhat, in very compact form. Cleaning couldn't be easier, damp cloth, no grille to "fuzz up" and thus no built-up dust recirculation to your airstream. This little fan is easy to keep pristine. I get nothing from sales of this thing, but seriously, it has been a huge help to me and to my household for, no kidding, many years. If my description of the Zippi fan sounds interesting to you, you might want to try one.

I'm comparing the zippi to a Lasko 2004W 2-Speed Clip Fan, 6-Inch, White I've read so many great things about vornado products that I wanted to give them a try and stumbled upon their desk fan. At almost the same price as the lasko, I thought this was a pretty good deal. Im a little disappointed by the function of the fan though. I thought it would cool me a little more than it actually does. Pros: - Looks really nice - Price wasn't bad - Rubber bottoms keep it from moving around - Convenient to travel with Neutral: - Not as quiet as the Lasko... you can definitely hear it moving air, but you'll soon forget its there and it wont be enough to distract you. - You have to go around the fan to get to the back.. not a con, but i often hit the fan blades which is annoying every time I want to change settings. and my coworkers are wondering what the heck is that noise? Its a little awkward to go around the fan. Cons: - Does not move as much air as the Lasko. I sit less than 2 feet from this fan and can barely feel the air hitting me. - Fan "blades" get in my way too much - Clicking sound if the plastic part that holds the blades is pushed in against the the fan part. Its hard to explain, but if you get the clicking noise, separate it a little bit. ---------------------- I'm still debating on whether or not i want to switch it with the desktop version of the Lasko, but it looks really nice. The Lasko on the other hand, is quieter in the low setting, but just as loud on the high setting as the high setting on the Zippi. The Lasko does not look as great, but it pushes a good amount of air towards you. I usually have to let it barely hit me or try and "bounce" the air around. I gave it three stars because I feel neutral about the fan. Its not great, but its also not terrible.

Bought 2, neither worked when they arrived. Tried to return, but refused to supply commercial invoice for international return, so stuck with two dead fans.

I bought this for my boyfriend in early September to use while he works from home as he usually gets very warm, but doesn't like to open windows as he lives by a main road. Initially, he felt like he didn't need it as he found a standing floor fan in his storage, thanked me, but asked that I return it. When I asked for it back to start the return process, he said he tried it out and he loves it and wants to keep it! He frequently has virtual meetings and it's quiet enough that it doesn't pick up on his audio when it's placed right in front of his monitor, though he doesn't exceed the lowest setting. It takes up roughly the same amount of desk space as a large mug, but has enough power to instant cool him off and keep him cool. To this day, he says he has no complaints!

Las aspas son bastante resistentes, antes de recibirlo pensé que se dañarían con el tiempo, pero no es el caso; pueden permanecer años en perfectas condiciones.
