Just what I was looking for. Refreshing feel, lovely smell
4 Month Review -After switching from Mach III razors Below is the listed product I am using as part of my "Shaving Arsenal." It took me a while to find each piece needed to bring it all together. My approach was finding all the pieces that had the best reviews vs. price. Just about everything listed below was the "highest price" but luckily these items don't cost much. Not CLOSE to as much as it costs to shave with Mach III Safety razors. If your ready to make the switch to a superior, and cheaper, alternative then check out the products below. After Shave: Virgin Island Bay Rum by Clubman I've tested several types of Aftershave in stores but never found anything I liked. Based on reviews I had a hunch I would really like this. Once it arrived I was right! It gives me a very fresh feeling after my morning shave, and has an amazing smell which isn't overpowering at all. My wife is very sensitive to smells but this is one she actually admires. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000053L6W/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_2 Handle: Merkur Model 180 Long Handled Safety Razor. The first thing I noticed about this handle is the quality. You can tell its not your basic cheap piece of metal. Its got a comfortable weight to it, keeps its brilliant chrome finish, and clean up is quick and easy. I consider myself a man with normal size hands and don't know why this one is considered "long handled." Its just a tad longer than the Mach III razor I used to use. However, it’s a night and day difference compared to those "Safety razors." It cuts very close with minimal passes. I've never had a shave that was this close before. http://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Model-180-Handled-Safety/dp/B000NL0T1G/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1355613524&sr=8-10&keywords=double+edge+razor+handle Blades: 7a.m. Platinum Double Edge Safety Razor Blades I've heard there are better blades on the Market but since I started out with a 100-pack it will be 2-YEARS until I need to buy any more since I change them out once a week. I'm half Filipino so I don't have the thickest facial hair but definably pull off a goatee without a problem. Other than one "Dud" all other blades have been very predictable and easy to use. I have gotten the occasional razor burn but that appears to be normal with any Double-edged razor. I was worried I would be opening myself up to more "risk" with these but feel that I am at no more risk than any other safety blade now that I am used to it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017ZECA6/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_32 Stand: Safety Razor stand Once I learned that a stand was needed for the "Tweezerman Men's Shaving Brush" I decided to go with this one. Its been 4 months and the chrome is still shining well. Its sturdy, and holds my double edged razor as well as the shaving brush as if this product was made just for them. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001XURHNY/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_42 Brush: Not sure why its made of "Badger" hair but its working. Where this brush looses a star is because it lost some of its bristles during the first week. Since then there haven't been any more hair-loss and I've had no problems. 4 months going strong. It creates a nice lather and feels good against the skin. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000G647Y8/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_47 Shaving Soap: Prosaro Shaving Soap It works but I with it had more lather. Based on previous reviews, it sounds like the amount of lather has significantly decreased. Does it work? Yes, but I like a good lather. Anyways, its been 3 months and I feel like I have maybe gone through half of this container which isn't bad. It also has a very fresh but subtle smell which I really like. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00837YY18/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_44?ie=UTF8&redirect=true Soap Bowl: Guess I didn't need this since I am using the Proraso Shaving Soap which is self contained. For as simple as it is, it lost two stars. There is a rim that goes along the bottom that has (or had) a black rubber piece that ran around it to provide a good footing for the Bowl while on a counter. The very first day this part fell off, it didn’t seat on there, and it wasn't glued. In the garbage that piece went. The next star was lost due to finish. It was a pretty flat finish for chrome and you could see the several light scratches across it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00404RI70/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_35

Get ready for the compliments! Women love it!
I’m telling you women love this stuff for some reason the cheaper the better! I started using a safety razor a severalyears ago I called the self leveler lol I’ll never go back to a five blade pivoting head expensive razor ever again. I wish I would’ve found out about this a long time ago. I started using a LEAF razor recently too. That’s my preference. You can split a blade in two by breaking them in half. I can buy 100 blades and last forever. This Bay Rum sent is my favorite although I like their citrus musk sent also it’s like taking a step back in time into a old-fashioned Barbershop. I live in Manila Philippines. They’re not big on aftershave over there so I bring a couple bottles of my own aftershave my favorites. I Snowbird back-and-forth between the MidWest and Philippines. My Filipina fiancé absolutely loves this fragrance. It just doesn’t last as long as I wish but a couple hours is good enough. When we get ready to go out for dinner or something, I’ll splash some of the sign after a quick shave. It draws her in for a sniff every single time she really enjoys it. I’m real sensitive to smells. (any stronger and longer lasting. I probably wouldn’t like it) I can’t stand a lot of people’s cologne and perfumes. This stuff doesn’t affect me that way. It does dissipate after about two hours though like I said. This year I’m bringing a bottle of the citrus musk with me in a 12 ounce size. It lasts a long time I usually blow through one bottle of Bay rum per year, so I usually buy the small bottle so I get a fresh bottle every year. I wish I had a clubmen retro logo T-shirt for these amazing sents! The stuff is very masculine. Women seem to love it. I’ve wore expensive colognes and never got this kind of attention!

Good stuff, great price
I mean seriously, even if you're just not sure. At this price, why not just pick up a bottle and try it? If you hate it, give it away! I recently went on a bit of a spree to try some different aftershaves. Since I loved the scent of the Colonel Conk Bay Rum Shave Soap that I had bought when I switched to a DE razor, I focused mainly on that scent. The two bay rum aftershaves that I ended up trying were this one and the Captain's Choice Bay Rum Aftershave . There's no clear winner between the two; on the contrary, I've found both of them to have their strengths and weaknesses compared to the other. Price: The Clubman wins by a mile here -- The CC is almost triple the price per bottle, and more than quadruple the price if you figure out the cost in dollars per ounce (the CC comes in a 4oz bottle). Smell: Of course this is subjective. The Clubman is milder, a little more sweet. The CC relies a little more heavily on the spice/clove side of things. Overall, I feel like there's more depth and complexity to the CC. But the Clubman isn't as bad right out of the bottle -- maybe 10 minutes or so after application, the Clubman has settled in to a nice fragrance. I feel like the CC needs at least a good half hour; this is wife-tested. She doesn't like the CC at all when I first apply it, but 30-45 minutes later she changes her mind. Intensity: Hard to determine when you're the one wearing it. I can smell both of them pretty much all day, but that's because it's on MY face. My nose is also on my face, so based on proximity alone it makes sense that I'd smell it longer than everyone else. This may be another good wife test. Packaging: CC is the clear winner. The CC is packaged in a nice, dark brown glass bottle that looks a little like an old-fashioned medicine bottle. The Clubman is packaged in a cheap plastic bottle that looks like something you'd find at a gas station. When I opened my package from Amazon, there was a dent in the corner of the bottle that had created a tiny hole. There was aftershave soaking into the packing material. I couldn't return it, so I transferred it to a small glass flask with a rubber stopper. This makes it difficult to apply because of the width of the flask mouth, but it's the only option I had available to me. Face: Both give you that nice, smooth aftershavey feel. But I think the feel of the CC is better. It includes witch hazel and glycerine in the ingredients, I think this may make the difference. Lately I've been adding a couple of drops of witch hazel to my palm along with the Clubman before applying. Speaking of ingredients: The win goes to CC here as well. The ingredient list of the Clubman is: Alcohol, water, fragrance, and a few artificial colors. The CC on the other hand: Alcohol, Witch Hazel, Glycerine, Spices & Extracts. Overall? Well, I personally prefer the Captain's Choice. But they smell different enough that I keep them both in my arsenal. Ultimately, opinions will always differ, but I can say that for less than seven dollars, you might as well give this stuff a shot!

Clubman Bay Rum Still The Best
This has to be one of the finest bay rums out there for an aftershave. I only wish the scent lingered a bit longer, because the fragrance itself is spot‑on — the perfect balance of spice, warmth, and freshness. It leaves your face feeling clean, invigorated, and downright exhilarated.

Unique smell for adding to my aftershave selection
I wanted the memory of my childhood barber trip with Dad. The first time I used it face and neck before work, As soon as I arrived a female I was conversing with said what are you wearing it's different and smells really good. I told her it was a vintage item. I am satisfied.

Not quite strong enough
I have used Pinaud Clubman for some 40 years. Recently I decided to get wild and try something else. The bay rum is not a bad product. It has a very pleasant smell and little burn but .. the smell seemingly is gone in seconds and isn't very strong when first applied. If you are looking for very subtle .. then this may be for you. I was hoping for a stronger longer lasting scent and will try another Bay Rum when this runs out.

Smells great
This aftershave lotion smells fantastic. My wife took one sniff and said wow. I can remember my grandma telling me, back in her day, that all the men wore Bay Rum. It still has a great fresh spice scent. Feels great after scraping off the whiskers. Glad I purchased it.

Nice one
Like the smell and it’s refreshing. However, its base notes resemble old spice mostly. If I were to make a purchase for a fragrance like this, based on price, I would choose old spice instead.
