Does it translate to/from Mandarin?

not sure but it is not worth the money just put google translate on your phone.this is not a good buy.

how many languages does it have ?

Mine is just English to Spanish, and vice versa. There are probably others...but I wanted the spanish one.

I have an earlier version of this dictionary 1998-2004 which has a charger port, which charger do I need and where can I find it?

This is a head-scratcher... my version has a port but it's a USB for data-transfer, not charging. I have the cable that came with it, but I just checked, and it seems it's the exact cable that's used for a Kindle -- which is not only data-transfer, but also charging. This makes me think (only a guess!) that if you have no regular batteries in your Franklin, and you plug in a Kindle cord, it might charge the Franklin device. Looks like Kindle charging cords are about $5 - $6. Hope this works for you!
