Do not buy the competitor!!!
This is a longer review. But hopefully helpful. I had previous version of rug doctor for 10 years and it was amazing. It cleaned up after 2 new puppies and one who refuses to house train. It cleaned old and new stains and cleaned what competition could not as you can see in pictures. My old rug doctor got a crack in the dirty water tank which we sealed with a special glue and it lasted another few years of constant use until it started to leak internally. It had a motorized brush that never failed and bristles that stayed in good condition for again ten years. I loved it. It cleaned everything we could throw at it new and old. When it died I made mistake and bought the leading competition thinking it must be better. I was terribly wrong. That machine must be defective but good luck if you missed out on return window. After hours and hours of horrible customer service I am stuck with a defective machine that does not clean any stain whatsoever. I was without a carpet cleaner that would actually work for 2 months so wised up and I bought newer version of rug doctor that cleaned what the other couldn’t despite 3 different times trying to clean a fresh stain. The doctor cleaned that now old stain in one try. It sucked solution like mad and left carpet nearly dry too. Which is very important if you know about cleaning carpet. The prior rug doctor cleaned so well I was an idiot to not just save myself from the headache of having to deal with what I am going through now. The new version is much the same except it has rubber bristles and no motorized agitator which I did like - I don’t know why they would get rid of that functionality that put it ahead of any other spot cleaner. Regardless it worked beautifully to finally clean stains up and out for good. The new dirty water tank opens up more fully and it’s easier to clean. It’s not a particularly small machine and it packs a lot of power which means carpets dry faster. It does have wheels though and it’s not overly heavy. It’s a quality made machine that I hope lasts another ten years. I wish the cleaning head could be removed but it’s not a deal breaker. This is a power house of a cleaner and is made well to stand time. I hope the newer version lasts as long and since nothing about the main body of machine has changed it should. I never cleaned hose out after use with old one now I know better so just put some hot water in a bowl and suck it through hose and maybe that will keep it better so I’m told. I will never get another spot cleaner. It’s a ten out of ten. I’m still using this on every stain the other one couldn’t clean to save its life. It’s been 2 months with a dog that has cancer and vomits and the one that loves to mark on carpet. Some things about the competition brand new bad awful highly rated one- the cleaning head is small. Too small and it was defective so it didn’t suck appropriately. A huge bonus is I never had to contact rug Doctor customer service ever because both machines work amazing. Good luck if you have a problem with the other one - you will be frustrated out of your mind. I’m. Very pleased that all the stains that have accumulated are gone and my carpets do need a deep cleaning overall but for a spot cleaner that I use weekly if not byweekly this is the go to work horse. Bravo rug doctor. Thank you for making a superb top of line product.

I. Love. This. Thing!!!
After calling around town and getting sticker shock on how much it costs to have upholstery professionally cleaned, I was very excited to snag this on a Black Friday sale over a year ago. It has paid for itself over and over again. I keep the cleaning solution in the reservoir ready to go so I can grab it when something liquid spills and standard cleaning methods prove to be insufficient. I even had an experience with paint on the carpet and I snagged this and it took it out immediately and completely. It does drip when the suction releases, so I put a small towel down to catch that. I usually spray items down for a “pretreat” and let them set for a few minutes. Then I carefully and slowly pull the nozzle over the upholstery or carpet. It’s satisfying watching the tinted liquid get sucked up. You can tell by the dirty reservoir that it’s doing it’s job! It takes a while to finish sofa cushions, because I’m careful to go back over them when the stain is still visible when wet. You can just barely see on our grey sofa it could probably use another go, but I’m too tired for now and it honestly looks GREAT to the naked eye. I let the cushions dry out overnight before putting them back. Not only are the stains mostly gone, but the cushions look refreshed. Be careful lifting the dirty reservoir out to dump it, I spilled it everywhere the first time, but haven’t again. I’m still on the first bottle of cleaning liquid it came with and I’ve done a BUNCH of items, stains, and spills this past year - I even took it to a friends house to help them out. It’s easy to carry and packs up well. I absolutely love it.

Worth the price - effective and lasts a long time
Excuse the one handed video - I don’t have a ton of people lining up to take videos of me cleaning my couch on a Saturday. I have had this cleaner **FOR TWO YEARS** at this time I am writing this review. That being said, I have used it probably 10 times and loaned it to my mother for her sofas as well. Yes, with a cat and a 5 month old golden retriever puppy, I find this worth the money. My couch looked like new after I used this before we got the puppy and now it looks just “a lot better” since we got the puppy. I gave 4/5 stars because I don’t find the vacuum feature in this very effective. As you can see in the video, it leaves a decent amount of pet hair behind. However, I don’t use it for the vacuum feature and before and after, I use my handheld Bissell pet vacuum and that does the job on the hair just fine. It’s satisfying to see the dirty water come out of the couch. There’s a huge difference between me doing a quick clean job on my couch with this and a deep clean job. The deep clean job requires several very slow passes over the entire surface. Worth the extra time in my opinion to do a deeper clean - however, as a busy mom that’s not always an option. Overall, I recommend this product. The initial investment is worth it to keep my couch clean and smelling fresh when I have company and 2 pets and a kid dirtying it up. In this video/these pictures, the cleaner I used was Bissell Pet Pro Oxy Spot and Stain made for portable carpet cleaners. I also spot treated some dog puke stains with Rocco & Roxie Pet spray. I have also used this to spot clean my area rug and it does a good job, although it would take forever to do an entire large area rug, so I wouldn’t recommend it for that. I will say that after 2 years, a washer broke on the clean water tank, and it is a pain to install it back in when I use it without spilling water anywhere. I’m assuming it’s like a one part/two second fix, but ain’t nobody got time for that. Pro tip: take the machine outside to empty the dirty water tank after use, or you may spill dirty water all over the floor, since there is a hole on the side of the tank that connects to the machine. I have done that an embarrassing amount of times. Thanks for reading/watching - hope this is helpful to you!!

Great suction power, minor issue with the sprayer.
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I purchased this spot cleaner over other similar ones due it having the highest power (10 amp motor), which was the most important requirement for me. It is very powerful at pulling the liquid out of the fabric. The sprayer applies a good even amount of solution over the surface, saturating it completely. The vacuum then pulls the liquid out very quickly and easily, the fabric was barely damp after passing the tool over it twice, and a few hours later it was completely dry. I did have one minor issue. Right out the box the sprayer was not working, the cleaner solution was not pumping through. Even with the clean tank removed the solution lying at the bottom was not flowing in with the trigger pressed, but could hear the pump running. I suspected a blockage, so filled a small 1ml syringe with water and while pulling the trigger, pushed (with the syringe) the water down the feed hole in the base. Heard a small pop and suddenly it started sucking the water in and spraying it out the tool. So if you have an issue with the sprayer just remove the clean tank and try pushing some water into the inlet on the base. Not sure if there is a valve that gets stuck or the pump just needs some initial priming, but its easily cleared and works every time now. If you are looking for the most suction power this is the one to buy. Very happy with the results.

Broke after 2 uses (and 90 days)
I bought this because our SpotBot finally kicked the can, it took 3+ years and at least a hundred uses ... we wanted to get with something that was a little less of a hassle to use, so we got this. Well, it started off good but we only used the unit twice successfully before it failed. The 3rd time we tried to use it the sprayer thing (to spray the solution) was no longer functioning but it did still suck things up. We contacted Rug Doctor for support, they responded pretty quick but their warranty is abnormal (from my experience) in that the customer is responsible to pay to ship the unit to them for repair while it is still under warranty, they pay to ship it back. If they were up front about this and told you before purchasing, this would not have been a purchase I would have made. Not super happy about this; with the fact that I used it twice and it broke and then the fact that I have to pay to ship it to them (which I haven't gotten the cost on yet) for them to repair the faulty unit that they sold me, this takes this to a 1 star because in my opinion that's not a customer friendly business model. This was a total waste of money, I expected more from a brand name like Rug Doctor (Bissell) but what I got was a faulty unit that I have to pay out of pocket to repair while it is under warranty and barely 90 days old (at the time of failure). I have other products where I tell them "Hey, my unit broke" they say "oh man, that sucks, give us your address and we'll ship you another since you are still under warranty" and this is on products far more expensive than the Rug Doctor ... where as with Rug Doctor, even thought they sold me a piece of crap, I have to pay to get it to them so they can fix it. The only way Rug Doctor can fix this is if they tell me they are going to reimburse me for shipping the unit and I will fix this review. Otherwise, this was the last purchase I will ever make from Rug Doctor or any company they own (which unfortunately includes all Bissell products), if my dollar counts as a vote for continuity of business, Rug Doctor (and Bissell) won't be getting any more of my dollars. Note, Rug Doctor never bothered to fix. I was able to get amazon to take this piece of crap back after the return period with just a small restocking fee.

You Get What You Pay For
It is seldom that I will write a review of a product, but after 25 years of searching, I think I found a portable spot cleaner that is both cost effective and well built. I have previously purchased the array of portable carpet and upholstery cleaners from Bissell, and while some work better than others, the same problem leads to their demise, that is, over the course of a couple of years, the plastic hose becomes brittle and tears. While repairing the hose with duct tape offers a temporary solution, eventually the unit must be discarded. I purchased the Rug Doctor portable cleaner this past March and could not be happier with the amount of suction this unit generates. While not comparable to a full-sized carpet cleaner, the Rug Doctor makes cleaning spills and cat accidents effortless in comparison to the competition. While I cannot yet speak to its durability over time, I'm of the impression the hose is of higher quality, which should extend the life of the product. For my purposes, it was well-worth the additional money spent.

Great product with one huge design flaw
I have a new puppy and knew I'd need a carpet cleaner for a while. My experience with selling commercial carpet cleaning units shows that removing as much fluid as possible is the way to get carpet clean. We've all probably cleaned a stain only to find it back after the carpet dries. It's called wicking. Flushing the carpet isn't enough, you must remove as much of the liquid as you can. The carpet dries faster and you've extracted the dirt better. This unit checks all the right boxes but the clean and dirty water containers don't stand up on their own. I have big hands but it's almost impossible not to make a mess when refilling or rinsing them out. I'm dinging it one star for that. Otherwise a well thought out and useful unit.

BETTER THAN BISSELL!
When we got a puppy in 2011, I bought a Bissell Little Green Clean Machine. It got us through Lucy growing up. In 2015, we got another puppy. I had to buy a new head for the Bissell so it would work, but it got us through Oscar growing up. I had to buy another new head for it after a while, just from normal use from having a child and 2 dogs. Don't get me wrong... The Bissell got me through a lot of accidents, sickness, etc.... It was in need of yet another new head, but I had put it off because the dogs were both full grown, and my son was getting older, so the Bissell wasn't getting much use. But then in November 2020, Lucy crossed the Rainbow Bridge..... A week later, we had another puppy. It was time to break down and get a new Bissell. I didn't see one like the one I had..... It had been over 9 years, after all...... Then I saw this Rug Doctor....... Now.... Whenever I scrub my carpets ... I rent a Rug Doctor. I know they make good stuff. I liked the features that were shown. So I bought it. I. LOVE. THIS. MACHINE. It has a nice, big head on it. It has GREAT suction. And..... IT HAS WHEELS! AND a pull handle! It is SO nice to be able to just park it, and when we need it (which is DAILY right now... Thanks, Stella), just pull it to the spot. No picking it up and lugging it (I'M getting older too!) It works great on carpet.... Works great on furniture.... And doesn't leave the spot super wet. If you are looking for a good machine for spot cleaning or cleaning furniture..... I HIGHLY recommend this machine!

LOVE IT! DEPENDS WATCH OUT!
Cleans my elderly parents excrement right off the floor. No more need for depends!! Keep in mind if they have corn in their diet you might need a stick to push it into the suction head of the machine.

¡Me encantó!

Product created sparks
Product recently arrived and I switched it on to clean my sofa. Immediately after turning off, there was sparks at the back of the machine and soot on my floor. This is a fire hazard.

This is US voltage only!!!
To use anywhere outside of the US you need to add a transformer that can handle at least 2k watts… which are not cheap… so unless you already have one avoid getting this

Works great!
I did my research and decided on the Rug Doctor. This cleaned even old stains. I could not believe how filthy the water was! It’s hard to believe my carpet could have been that dirty! Great product!
