Excellent product
This critical care product was part of my feeding routine for a very sick foster. She was given it during the acute stage and then during recovery. She had to be syringe fed initially and then mixed in her food when finally eating on her own. This helped maintain her energy in recovery. Even though it has a somewhat strong scent to me, she found it palatable. In fact, other fosters were attracted to it. I had to stand guard while she ate. I do recommend this product.

Was recommended by our exotic vet for rescue reptile that was not eating.
This stuff worked. I had a rescue reptile that had gone off food I was nursing back to health. Also, used on a gravid female leopard gecko who went off food for over 4wks to make sure she had nutrients (she was making eggs which takes a lot of energy and reserves of calcium - poor things go through this even if never bred or even seen a male) i mixed this stuff runny enough to put in a very small syringe (NO needle) so i could drip the mixture on their lips and tip of nose (stay away from nostril holes) and they lick it off. These reptiles and a pac-man frog did very well and came around. The stuff was recommended by our exotic vet. It seems expensive but keep mind you get a good amount your going to mix in water so it goes a long way how I was using it and I store mine in the refrigerator so it will last longer. It is easy to mix and the animals seem to like the flavor. The bag zip locks shut so cut just the top open (don’t tear it like I did all crooked, and I use a scoop and keep that in the bag, heck it might have came with the scoop. Sorry can’t remember I have so many different things like this for my 21 rescues I can’t recall. I will warn you this stuff smells awful, reminded me of a chew my puppy had once, after they chewed on it and got it wet, was awful (hoof - gross, I know). Both reptiles and pac-man frog responded well and regained their appetite.

Amazing for sick kitten!
My darling kitten was diagnosed with wet FIP-- an incurable and fatal condition that should have killed her over a month ago. Instead of dying, she's come back to life. She's hilarious, energetic, sassy, and affectionate. In the past two weeks, she went from glassy-eyed and vacant to bright and alive. She's eating, drinking, voiding normally, and is still completely herself. This is not the only product I'm using to try to save her from this hideous disease. But I credit this with resurrecting her appetite. She has always been picky, and now even more so since she became ill. But this stuff? It smells like dead things. And she absolutely loves it. I mix it with another high-calorie supplement, some of her high-quality wet food, ionic silver, and a powdered vitamin/probiotic formulated for kitties. And because she loves this stuff so much, it's getting her to eat all of this other stuff that I was previously having to force-feed her. Now she's motivated to eat and is even eating her hard food in addition to this smelly nutrient sludge that I create. (I'm also giving her turmeric in fish oil as well as CBD oil, but I give those separately.) So no, this isn't the only product that is extending her life. But it makes her so excited to eat, to the point of running around in a frenzy when I go to mix the stuff. It is highly nutritious. It's one of TWO high-calorie supplements I could find that didn't have corn syrup/malt syrup listed as the first two ingredients. (Seriously?!?) And it's helping me to save her, or at the very least to provide her with a high quality of life way beyond when she was supposed to live. Giving a sick animal (or person) high-quality nutrition and the motivation to eat is the greatest gift you can give and is the best chance at health. I'm delighted that I found this stuff.

A Lifesaver for Supporting an Older Cat When Eating Is Hard
I’ve been using Oxbow Critical Care Carnivore to syringe feed my 13-year-old cat during a period when she wasn’t eating well on her own, and I’m very thankful to have this product. The powder mixes easily with warm water to create a smooth consistency that works well for syringe feeding. I like that it’s calorie-dense, because she doesn’t need a large volume to get meaningful nutrition, which is important when energy and appetite are low. The ingredient profile gives me peace of mind as it’s made with animal-based proteins like whole egg and chicken, which feel appropriate for a carnivore. While my cat wasn’t drawn to the taste on her own, she tolerated it well when fed slowly, and it helped me feel confident that she was getting nourishment during a difficult time. This is definitely something I recommend keeping on hand, especially for senior cats or situations where assisted feeding becomes necessary. It’s clearly designed for recovery support and feels like a thoughtfully made product. Pros: • Mixes smoothly for syringe feeding • Calorie-dense so smaller amounts go further • Animal-based protein formula • Helpful to have on hand for emergencies or recovery I think this has been a helpful tool in caring for my older cat, and I’m glad I had it available when we needed extra nutritional support.

My 18 year old cat immediately began eating this after not wanting any other foods
My kitty will be 18 next month. Not entirely sure if she will make it. She has reduced her eating and drinking, and it quite frail. Wanting to make sure that she is taking in enough water and nutrition, I began looking for a supplement. A geriatric cat group I am in recommended this. I didn't know much about it when I purchased it other than it looked like a complete nutrition item, and that it could be given to them to lap up or perhaps dropper fed. Figured it was worth trying. My order arrived- somehow- within 24 hours. I'm writing this review a day after receiving it. As soon as I got it, I prepared a dish for my baby girl, Kayla. It reminded me of the broth powders and powdered milks I buy my cats and dogs on occasion: just combine the powder with some water. Add more or less water depending on what you need. She dove right in! I was nearly in tears seeing her taking in nutrition and water. I gave her as much as she wanted, and it was amazing to watch her ingest this product. She is already extremely picky, and I have all sorts of wet foods, baby foods, and other foods for her-- but she has been not happy with anything. I also noticed she hadn't been drinking like she was. She'd go up to the water bowl but not drink. So to see her EAT AND DRINK, I felt so much better. I don't know what is in store for her in coming days, but right now I am glad to have this product. So whatever this is, it was appealing to her. I have already ordered 2 more bags because this doesn't make that much. I think I am already through half the bag. 1 TBS = 4 grams. This 70 gram bag contains 17.5 servings. 24 calories per Tablespoon My girl is in the 4-5 pound range, so that would put her in the 6 tablespoons a day recommendation. So 3 day supply? More or less depending on her appetite and what else she may eat. Also, she has a litter mate brother who IS eating and drinking ok, yet still finds his way over to her bowl of this. He likes a few laps then walks away. Figure it is good for him to have it too. I am mentioning this as a way to help you decide how much to get.

Hit or miss
This stuff is usually great! Smells horrible, but my ferrets love the taste, and it's super nutrient dense if your babies need extra help. Easy to prep+ stores in the fridge for up to a month. Recently got two bags from the same batch that smell "off". A good batch smells strongly, but still somehow edible. These are sweet/something is rotting. Nobody will touch them. I don't know what happened but Oxbow wasn't very helpful when I called. Amazon processed the refund, but not happy to see this in a food already meant for sick pets. Appetite is still there, but trust isn't.

Senior Cat - Gained Weight & Energy
My senior cat who had dental work done began to loose weight rapidly and had no interest in eating, UNTIL we started feeding this liquid miracle! Weight started coming back and so did his appetite. I started putting it into his normal wet food to transition him back to it. These saved my sweet senior.

Great for ferret recovery!
Wow, so this stuff stinks like nasty eggs and rotting dead things. My ferret recently lost her litter mate and stopped eating. I wasn't sure if she was sick or depressed. My others were fine, so my hope was to keep getting nutrition in her. I've tried other "soups" as a treat and they all love it, but I needed something geared directly towards high calorie recovery. While my other noodles didn't want anything to do with it, I'm so thankful she did. I mixed it with salmon oil and some other vitamin paste and spoon feed her. She scarfs it down. So far, she seems to be more alert and hopefully coming around. This and with lots of lovins and cuddles. I highly recommend this stuff and will for sure keep it on hand for a treat but also in my care kit. Again, not all ferrets care for it, but it meant the most that she does. Edit- Several weeks later, we're out of the woods with our sick girl. She is up and running around and eating solids. I can only think me feeding her this, along with another well-known soup got her through it. She was critically ill and we were taking it day by day with little hope. We knew we had to just nurse her through it. This stuff truly is a lifesaver. Highly recommend!

Good product
I have a 7 months bearded dragon that s too young for brumation and she started brunate anyway.. so i use this to feed her every morning and then she gies back to sleep. She s not big enough to brunate, so using this helps her gain weight during brumation.

life saver
So thankful this product exists. I had a very sickly leopard gecko that was refusing to eat and was dropping weight incredibly quickly on antibiotics and i’m convinced this stuff saved his life during that time!! so good to have on hand for emergencies like that.
