My family list our matriarch in January and we have been struggling to recreate as many of her signature foods and preserve them for future generations. Pickling was something she did for her children and grandchildren many years ago but slowed down over the last 20 years and didn't have the energy for it. We found many recipes and references to 'pickling spice' but nothing with a breakdown of the ingredients to make it. While cleaning up in the garage we found a old grocery bag that had a bag of pickling spice in it! That brand is no longer in existence but the list of ingredients is nearly identical to this blend. I thought my father in law was going to tear up when he got his first smell of this stuff! The family is so excited to get together this weekend and pickle some home grown cucumbers in Grandma Manya's honor. Thank you Boise Salt Co for creating such a quality pickling spice!
