    Fabric Wraps: Useful and Decorative

I actually purchased two of these books to give to family members who expressed an interest.  I definitely like the idea of wrapping gifts in decorative material that can be used for additional purposes, rather than in paper that just gets thrown out.  Great idea. I first became acquainted with the idea of Furoshiki Fabric wraps when I found a Japanese bundle wrap at a resale shop.  I had no idea what it was when I bought it, but it was a fabric that I liked, and a size that seemed very useful.  Once I googled Japanese Bundle Wrap, I discovered Furoshiki! and the rest is history!

I know the State of Maine is soon going to ban plastic bags, so this is an attractive way to carry your groceries, I only hope I become proficient at fabric wrapping before it becomes a real issue.  Going to have to look into how to make my fabrics water resistant to condensation a true killer of fabric fibers.

Furoshiki is Japan's contribution to practically-beautiful textile totes: whether you choose to use Aunt Tillie's old silk scarves, or the bed linens supersized when you upgraded the bed; or purchase new as yard goods, for exquisite beauty or practicality, textiles are the way to go to move away from the throw-away *disposable* lifestyle.I use this book and others when I present to retirement and women's groups about the Green Life. The pictures invite perusal, but i find i must still teach with hands-on practice.
