These actually do get hot. It says that you need to apply to the outside of your cloths. I apply it directly to my hip. I love this product and order it repeatedly.

Dear Nancy,I don't know, and the package lists only "iron, activated carbon, and water." HOWEVER, you stick them to your clothing, never your skin, as the instructions say. They may contain latex, but the only time they touch your skin is when you stick them on. If you're extremely allergic to latex, I guess you could use rubber gloves to put them on. In contrast to the previous answer, I have found Cura-Heat to be EXTREMELY helpful in relieving lower back/shoulder pain. They stay warm for at least 15 hours and relax tight muscles/tendons amazingly well for me. I hope this helps.Susan
