Schwinn Petunia and Grit Bike, Bike for Kids Ages 2-4, Steerable Beginner Bicycle with Training Wheels, Parent Push Handle, Rear Coaster Brake, Adjustable Seat

My two-year old son recently received this bike for Christmas, and we all love it. Here are multiple reasons why:First, I wanted a quality toddler bike that does not promote any characters (since children tend to grow out of their obsessions) and one that was unisex. All of the Huffy 12-inch bikes were covered in characters, so this Schwinn bike was the winner. The color is more of a burnt orange rather than a red, but it's not blatantly boy and could definitely be used for a girl (since I'm not fond of purchasing everything in pink or purple for girls).Second, I read other reviews describing how helpful the posterior removeable steering handle is, but until my son actually sat on the bike, I didn't realize how absolutely necessary and helpful this handle is for parents of first-time bike riders. My son is very short, but his feet can reach the pedals with the seat all the way down. However, he cannot yet pedal but can still enjoy riding this bike due to the helpful posterior handle. For adults the handle is a blessing because one does NOT bend over uncomfortably the entire time while pushing. The handle allows for easy, smooth, comfortable steering and safely helps guide a toddler who'd rather steer himself. We have comfortably been able to push our son for as long as he'd like around the house or down the sidewalk only because of this handle. Even my father with Parkinson's loved pushing my son around only because of the handle which gave my father support and easy maneuverability. No other 12-inch bike had such a handle, and now that we have a first bike with a handle, I would never consider a first bike without one.Third, the bike chain is completely enclosed. The Huffy bike chains only have a guard on the upper part of the chain, but this Schwinn bike's chain is completely enclosed. And I much appreciate this safety feature since I have an extremely curious toddler who would absolutely explore a dirty exposed chain if there was one.Fourth, this bike includes a bell, and my son loves ringing it as he's riding.Fifth, the seat is an appropriate size for a toddler who is any size.Lastly, the bike was easy and relatively quick to assemble, and the parts are durable and strong.

This training bike has surpassed my expectations! It seems like everything for this age group has plastic wheels, or has trainers that aren't removable. If they do have real wheels with removable trainers, they're too big for toddlers, and don't have a parent handle. Well this little Schwinn is not only adorable, but it ticks every box for us. Our small 3 year old can reach the pedals, with no problem. After a week, he was already able to pedal himself, and knew how to backbreak! There's no handlebar break here, which is great. My two older kids had a hard time breaking the habit of using those and backpedaling instead. The parent handle is great for teaching him to steer himself, as we ride he gets a natural feel for steering. We aren't ready to take the training wheels off yet, but I imagine the parent handle helps with this too. No running alongside them, bent over, trying not to let them fall. My 3 year old loves the bell, and pretends it's his fire truck alarm! I definitely recommend this over the plastic wheeled tricycle types, this will carry you through more learning phases.

My son got this on his 2nd birthday! Firstly, amazon is amazing. Free super saver shipping was quicker than expected. 5-7 business days actually came in 2! Super fast! With the product, so far - we're impressed. Assembly was fairly quick for my husband. All the pieces and parts intact and good quality. A nice Schwinn bike! Once fully assembled, our son loved it! It's definitely something he can grow into, because he doesn't know how to ride one yet, but he's eager to learn. The handle with steering ability for parents is awesome! He enjoys holding the handle bars and manuvering while we actually have full control from behind. The training wheels are great also! Eventually we can remove the steering bar and he can ride with training wheels. Then we can remove them and he can ride all on his own! I love that he can really grow into this bike! So many fun stages to see him go thru! So far we love this bike - and so does he! Thanks Nana and Nani for the great present! xoxo

Purchased this for our 3yo son. He loves it & wants to "ride" it all the time. I got it because of the handle & being able to push & steer. That part works great & it's a great size for my son. What I don't like is the breaks. My son doesn't have the peddling down yet & always pushes back on the breaks which causes me to not be able to push. Also, the instructions were not very clear. The book in general was for all Schwinn bikes, not this specific one. There were separate instructions for the handle assembly, but that part wasn't hard to figure out. My hubby & I got it figured out, but it took us a good 45 mins cause we put the front tire on before the fender & had to redo it. Other than that we really like it. It's very steady & I think our son will be able to ride it for a long time!

I purchased this bike for my son for Christmas. He's not quite 2 1/2 and very small for his age, and he can still reach the pedals, though he hasn't quite caught on to pedaling yet.One thing I didn't see anyone mention in the reviews we read before we bought it is that the parent handle pops on and off on the fly (you don't need to screw it on and off, and it's not going to be jammed on there until the day your kid no longer needs it). In other words, you can take it off to stash the bike in your trunk on the way to the park, assuming it fits. Without the handle, it fits easily in the back of our 2010 CRV.The ugly stickers on the fenders arrived warped and dented due to mishandling during shipping (it came in its own box), but they can be easily removed, and the dents aren't a big deal. My husband spent a solid hour fixing a stuck back wheel when it arrived as well (someone less-mechanically skilled would probably have had to send it back). While the fenders are flimsy as others point out, they do serve as useful mudguards. The training wheels are extremely sturdy and hold the bike up with my son on it even when I'm not using the handle.This was way, way better than a tricycle in spite of the minor quality issues.

This is my second time purchasing this bike. The first bike I purchased it as an open box deal. OK, I know what you’re thinking, but I always purchase things as an open box deal and never had any issues. So I get the bike and put it together and it works perfect. I use it a total of 3 to 4 time, 30 mins ant most each time and the steering handle stops working. I called customer service at Schwinn and the lady was very nice and I explained to my problem and she advised the problem could not be fixed and I should just send the bike back to to Amazon for a replacement. I went through all the trouble of disassembling the bike and sending it back to Amazon. Also had to go And through the trouble of trying to locate a box to ship it in since I threw away the old box because I wasn’t Expecting to have to ship the bike back in less than three a few week. On to the second bike….This time I spend the extra money. I think it was about $190 to be exact. I get the new bike and put together and my son is extremely happy again. Now…my son is three years old and he’s autistic so he still can’t pedal or steer the bike so having the push handle with steering capability is extremely important. Same problem. The new bike arrives and we have it about two weeks. We still only get very limited use out of the new bike. We both work full time hours and only have a few hours a few days a week to push him on this bike. If I had to guess, I’m positive we haven’t used this bike more than 3 hours in total and the steering handle is already messing up again. It’s not even functional. This is the biggest waste of money. I’m so ready to send this back to Amazon because for this amount of money, this bike should function until at least my son grows out of it.DONT WASTE YOUR MONEYMy son will be so disappointed when he comes home and see the bike gone but this bike cost too much to be junk. Y’all can do better

I’m so happy we found this bike, bought it as a gift. The only 2 wheel bike (with training wheels) with a handle in the back for an adult to control. The handle is hooked to the bikes handle bars so you can help steer the bike and control the speed. The handle can be removed when (and if) your ready. I wish I had found this bike 2 years ago and we would not have bought the balance bike that never gets used. Love this would buy it again and recommend it to everyone. The only downside is it’s size, my 4 year old grandson will probably grow out of it by age 5.I would give it 1000+ ⭐️!

This is the first bike I ever purchased for my three year old nephew and I couldn't have hoped for anything better. The bike arrives in the box almost completely assembled...only the handlebars and training wheels needed to be attached. The quality is top notch with a very sturdy frame, smooth, well-oiled sprockets and wide, stable tires. If your child is just getting used to pedaling, you can push him or her with the removable extension pole. A cable linkage allows the same pole to steer the bike as you are pushing it. It is an ingenious design and allows for maneuvering the bike in tight areas, including indoors.

The item received with many deep scratches and on the bike frame, fork and handle bar. I was meant for a gift and it ended up look like it was a second hand bike. Very disappointed purchase.
