Is this waterproof at all please?

Yes, I believe it is. I also packed the bottom with a puppy training pad to absorb any little mistakes.

Is this large enough for a smaller border collie?

Yes there is plenty of room. I regularly have a Jack Russell and a cocker spaniel in the back of the car. I think it is a fantastic product. It stops the car getting messy. I usually put a towel over the top. It is secured to the front and back headrests. My dogs have harnesses and I use the straps supplied to attach them strap to the seat belts. If you have to stop quickly the dogs will move a bit but are secure in the carrier. Definitely recommend it.

Is this really only 9 inches wide?

Yes but my cat can turn round easily in it, I’d say it’s suitable also for a small dog

Is this bag stable? Does it sink in the middle when an animal is inside??

The carry case has a solid bottom in the bag with a removable soft bed. It doesn’t sag at the bottom when carrying.
