Tintin: Cigars of the Pharaoh

Tin Tin, is an educational, exciting and great book and series. The story is exciting and keeps the reader wanting to know more. The theme is similar but the story changes from other books in the Tin Tin series. The kids reread this again and again. It is great for kids to keep them off of a computer and into a book. The pictures and art work is wonderful and top quality. I would recommend this book to a friend and I would buy it again.

My sons loved these books when they were little. I'm happy to have found them again for my grandsons. Tin Tin's adventures are interesting and fun. Tin Tin's predicaments are very funny.

This is the fourth Tintin book that Hergé wrote. After traveling to the Soviet Union, the Congo and America in previous episodes, this adventure takes the young reporter and his dog Snowy from Egypt to Arabia and on to India, hot on the trail of international drug smugglers. In this book we are introduced to many characters who would make repeat appearances later on. We meet the inept Interpol detectives Thompson and Thomson (who became series regulars), the evil Captain Allan, the pedlar Oliveira da Figuera and film producer Rastapopoulus. This book is full of humorous incidents with the central plot surrounding the mysterious Egyptian symbol on the band of a cigar. This is the one where Hergé is starting to realize the potential of this series with a string of great books to follow. The adventure continues in "The Blue Lotus".

First, this is where Herve really started to hit his stride (the 3rd vol). The first two volumes are not at the quality this one is and you don't lose anything by starting here. You can always go back, but you might not get hooked if you start with Vol 1 or 2. Very entertaining. Interesting to see how action stories were written at the time (1930's). Highly serialized - I don't know if this was originally in newspaper or magazine but every 2-3 pages has a cliffhanger that feels like it was meant to be read in installments. The art is amazing. I took one star away because of how many times TinTin is rescued by Deus Ex Machina. It begins to strain the patience but would probably not be as irksome if read in installments which is another reason I wonder if this was serialized. My suggestion is to read it about 3-4 pages at a time. I know that sounds strange but I think if i get another volume I will do exactly that - read it in shorter bursts and pay more attention to the art and the history.

I purchased this for my daughter who really loved the movie The Adventures of TinTin. The writing is a bit small. I think some of the adventures have curse words in them. Can't remember if this story specifically has them, but there are some TInTIn adventures with curse words.

Tiintin was a needed companion in boarding school when i was a kid and now it is a welcome companion to my kids as their bedtime story. One day my grandkids may love it too?

introduced to Tin Tin in a beat up northern BC cabin after a day of cutting wood. Baked cookies on a wood cook stove, had dinner and substances and read Tin Tin. Life was simple.

My son LOVES it!A good motivation for reading!

I know that each person will have their favorite Tintin book, but this is mine. There is just something magical and wondrous about this one. It's a real adventure. Every child should have the opportunity to experience the Tintin series. Start with this one, if you haven't gotten any yet. Your child will remember this for the rest of their life.
