This series is rather a comfortable analogous of a Wikipedia entry that you can read in the kindle: short and superficial. I enjoyed to refresh what I already knew from reading academic books; if you have the same goal then you'll have fun with this book too. About the things I disliked, (minors because this is not meant to be a deep book) are the lack of mentions in the chapter of arts of the Library of Ashurbanipal, and the relief of the Lion Hunt of Ashurbanipal, maybe the author considers them not worthy in comparison to other works... but personally I love so much the Lion Hunt, I think is one of the finest works of art in ancient times from an extraordinary, and unknown, artist. Another thing I knew and I thought it had been worthy to mention in this book, is that Assyrians still exist today! :O and they still speak their language, which was conserved thanks to their early Christian church (similar to the old Egyptian language that was preserved through the Christian Coptic church) And lastly if you are going to read this book in kindle e-reader, as me, then the maps are going to be complicated to see: the different empires are shown in different colors, but in my kindle they are barely differenciable tones of grays. Sadly after the wars and the horrible destruction commited by IS against the Assyrian remaining cities, monuments, and the persecution towards their Christian descendants, much of what is here is rather a feeble memory open to interpretations than a physical heritage we could see to understand how, as humanity, we became to be.
