Fashion history
This is great for anyone that is interested in a life of fashion. We have to learn the history of something if we are tempted to change anything.

Reference material
It's interesting to get the perspective of a Victorian era author. She is quite opinionated in some chapters and a bit gossipy when describing the costumes ata recent ball. My biggest disappointment is that the illustrations, which are referred to often, are not included in this edition. It would be much more helpful if they had been included. I spent a good bit of time looking up specific paintings mentioned just to understand some of the descriptions and there were several terms used that I still haven't found a definition that makes any sense in the context of period clothing.

All the illustrations are missing
If you're interested in the history of fashion this title is worth reading, but it would have a lot more value as a reference if the illustrations had been included when it was "Kindle-ized".

A silly mess, not scholarly
This book is stupid, and I've no doubt that a reader with sensibilities and lacking the prejudices of the day, (1887) would have found it thus."The Evolution of Fashion" describes clothing throughout the ages as depicted in the romantic art of the day, and in no way resembles a scholarly study. The author liberally sprinkles social commentary throughout, taking delight in remarks about the lower classes. In this way, it is an unwitting study of the bigotry of the day. Most unforgivable is this book not the least bit entertaining, but irritating. The many silly unfounded remarks will soon make the reader want to put this book down, never to pick it up again. It's a shame, really. Some of these old books, formated by volunteers, can be quite interesting and educational. Not this dog.
