### ⭐⭐⭐

    Good book, really lousy edition

*by T***2 on Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2017*

I'd give a good four stars for the recipes themselves, and ONE star for the "American" edition. In some recipes, the translation of grams into ounces is so far off as to render the dish completely inedible -- for example, no, 70 grams of hot chili peppers is NOT equal to 7 ounces of hot chili peppers, and if you make the dish with 7 ounces of hot chili peppers you will be very, very unhappy. I like the recipes but the production....crap.

Be Careful and Don’t Believe Everything You Read

I share another reviewer’s concern about inaccurate transfers from metric measurement. According to this author, everything equals 7 ounces, whether it is 70 grams, 200 grams or 32 grams. In some places the amount listed for cups seems to be off by a cup. The recipes do look interesting and I plan on trying any number of them, especially some of the dips and pates. The cooking techniques are pretty straightforward and basic for the most part, but use your head when you are measuring ingredients because some of what is given here is not accurate. Most of the ingredients for the recipes are easily found in supermarkets. Walnuts and garlic would seem to be absolute necessitiesIn addition to the questions about the measurements for me at least there was a question about at least one of her equivalent ingredients for a pancake. She lists cornflour as the flour she uses and equates it to cornstarch for American readers. In my cupboard I have cornflour, cornmeal and cornstarch. I believe, but am not certain , that the author would use the cornmeal for her recipe if she as making it in the US.There are several places listed to buy Georgian ingredients in the back of the book. One of the American shops is for wines. The other two websites don’t seem to work, which is not the author’s fault. The one place where I did find the only two ingredients used in the book that I would not be able to find locally is Amazon. She lists Amazon UK for her British readers, but forgets to list Amazon USA for the Americans. The recipes do look good. and not too difficult to make for an average cook. Quite a few seem to include a sauce made with garlic and walnuts for almost any course but dessert. When planning a menu you need to imclude a few of the ones that don’t start off with those ingredients so everything won’t taste the same..Does anybody edit anymore? Some of the Ottolenghi books are even more of a mess than this one is.

    The book is disappointing!

*by W***M on Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2019*

I guess my expectations were way too high! The Georgian cooking is much more interesting, then this book shows! Why they could not give any great recipes of desserts from this country, this region!!! The desserts in this book are very European/American!!!(in YouTube and personal blogs you can discover so much more,I wish I didn’t have hoped for this books!!!)
