Great River Organic Milling, Whole Grain, Rye Grain, Organic, 50-Pounds (Pack of 1)

I bake sourdough bread, primarily whole rye and rye blended with different kinds of wheat. I mill my own. This year I have had a hard time finding rye berries from my usual sources so I had to go further afield. I was happy with my first order of 25 pounds from Great River, so I bought 50 pounds more. The grain is relatively clean, only a few bits of stick and seed and a little bit of grain dust, and very good quality. No bugs! It has a delicious flavor and makes wonderful sourdough bread. And this price, with free shipping across the country to California, makes it more cost effective than I can get from my local sources! I am very happy with this rye grain.

Great River is a company that stands behind their products. We purchased several types of grain from this company over several occasions. All were stable except 3 bags that had weevils which ruined the grain. I came to know this is not uncommon in organic grains as there is no pesticides used. The company cheerfully replaced the bags of rye and oats and told us the best way to store them was in buckets with O2 absorbers. Another idea is to add whole bay leaves to the pails. We discovered the best idea was to put the grain in quart or gallon zip lock freezer bags and freeze for 3 days or more. Then put the freezer bags in the storage buckets. That also gives you a pre-measured amount to use. This kills the weevils and secures the grain. Thank you Great River for your dedication to satisfy your customers!!!

Shipped in an orderly manner and came right on the day Amazon said it would be in. Very fresh and delicious. As another commentor pointed out, because its organic grain that uses no fungalcide there will be some grains that have ergot so its a good idea to spread your grain out and pick through it to clean it up. Ergot infested rye is black and a bit shriveled compared to normal rye if you go through the reviews you will find a picture of what it looks like. You might also find some unrelated grains in there too. overall fanastic product.

Great for baking bread at home. These rye berries store nicely in sealed lined buckets with silica packs. They come in a strong bag packaged in a heavy duty box by the manufacturer with a thank you letter for buying their product. Mill this yourself you can bake a good amount of bread or use wherever you normally use flour for cooking/baking. This is a quality product from America and I say spend the money buy American vote with your dollar.

Chepest Rye berries I can find. Witch is super helpful for my mushroom business. The berries do need a little extra rinsing compared to other brands but it's chipper.

A lot of dark grains, a lot of tiny undeveloped grains. I spend much time removing them. I had purchased 25 lb bag of rye from Great River before and grain was very good and clean. But this 50 lb bag of rye has bad quality. I am very disappointed.
