Clovers Garden Carolina Reaper Pepper Plant - Non-GMO - Not Seeds - Each 4" to 8" Tall – in 4" Inch Pots - World's Hottest Pepper - 2.2 Million SHU

Carolina Reaper seeds have a reputation for being hard to start, so I decided to try live plants instead. An Amazon search lead me to this vendor, from whom I have not bought before. Cons: The shipping fees are expensive. Pros: The plants arrived quickly and in excellent condition. I received two very healthy plants, one about six inches tall, the other about four/five inches, with protective wrapping and bamboo stakes to help prevent them from being damaged by sliding in the box during shipment. The box itself had a few dings, thanks to the USPS handling gorillas, but the plants showed no signs of bruising or stress. I planted them and they're growing nicely. After about a week, both have grown another inch at least, and the larger is budding to flower. Best of all, I don't have to worry about getting fussy seeds to germinate. Bottom line: For me, the convenience of live plants and the quality of the plants I received more than offset the high shipping fees. I'm quite satisfied with my purchase. Would I buy again next year?--Yes.

When I received these, I followed the instructions and after acclimating to full sun, I planted them directly in my raised bed garden. So far plenty of peppers growing and two almost ripe. Will buy again. Update: A++++ Most productive year in peppers here on the farm. Tons of glorious peppers. Joy to watch grow and as first timers, man, we are hooked. Thanks for the awesome plants y'all. Highly recommended.

Arrived healthy and that is about all one can ask. I order these every year

Absolutely the nicest plants ever so surprised . High quality

I brought 3 other plants inside from the garden this year. I pruned and stripped all them of there leaves. Removed as mush dirt as possible from the roots. Soaked each plant in neem oil and replanted inside with clean pots and new dirt. All was well. I received these a month later. Leaves had started growing on the other plants by now and a nice aphid invasion sprung up. I can’t 100% say it was these new plants that brought them but based on other reviews it sure looks like it. Same bugs in the pictures. Hopefully I can save them. Update: 10/13/25. Been about 10 months since I ordered the plants. Never got rid of the aphids until I put these in the ground. They lost all their leaves a couple of times. Due to bugs and/ or the treatment I gave them. The last leaf drop was right before they were going in the ground. Instead of tossing them, I said what the heck and planted them. They took off once I did that. No leaves meant no more bugs outside. So, they were behind from the start in the ground. I put a makeshift greenhouse around them a few weeks ago with a heater, and I’m getting peppers. They kinda look reapers but kinda don’t. The heat level is hot but not as hot as other peppers I have growing. If I can keep the heat in the greenhouse, I’ll have a lot more. Thought I’d share the while experience. I updated to 2 stars since I did get peppers. I’m downgrading to 1 star cause I’m pretty sure these are not Reapers. Maybe a cross of Repaer and something else. They don’t really look like Reapers and I have other peppers, death Spiral, T.Rex that are much hotter. They are hot chilis, just not what I ordered and a headache all year long.

A few months on and the plants are doing well but haven’t produce flowers or borne fruit yet. They were packed very well, and arrived in very good condition. Happy to have them!

***Second and Final Update*** I just received a message from Jim (same guy as before) and he let me know that they have no ripe pods available, but that he will give me a full refund and let me keep the plants as well. He also offered to send me plants next Spring to keep me happy. Overall, I still maintain that the description needs to include a disclaimer about non-ripe pods, but I guess if you have customer service this good it really makes up for a lot. I suppose I will in fact buy from this seller in the future, but I'll be sure to contact them first if the description leaves out specific notes about what you're getting, since the picture may not be representative of the product. ***Update*** This evening I received a call from the company and the guy was really nice and wanted to resolve everything. He offered me a full refund and I let him know that I am willing to accept a half refund if he can send me a ripe plant, or the full refund otherwise. He agreed and said that as long as I am happy they will do whatever. So overall I can recommend the item. A major problem though is that the listing needs to note under details: "Plants may arrive with unripened pods and may take up to 2-3 weeks to ripen". For me that would have made all the difference because I would have contacted them first and asked if there were any available that were ripe, and I would have ordered accordingly. I can see how the size of the plant which is in the title might lead more experienced growers to expect whether or not the fruit is ripe, but for someone who is newer to the trade like me, a proper description is necessary. ***Original Review*** I just received this today. I have 2 problems: 1. It did not include the "Clovers Garden Copyrighted Plant Care Guide" as advertised. This bugs me because I actually counted on having a guide that is tailored by the exact company I ordered my plants from. 2. The pictured Carolina Reapers are red, but the two they sent me are completely green and unripened. My main goal here was two have two of them right off the bat and then grow more! Now I am not sure what to do about the ones I need now. Sure hope there are no more problems. I am overall quite disappointed thus far.

2month update: dropped to 3 stars. im starting to question if these are truly reaper peppers. They have not grown past a foot tall after 2 months they should be much bigger. They are short, stocky, with very thin leaves. A lot of growth on the main stem, and very little branch growth, more so that any other reaper pepper plant i have seen. They are basically leafy stocks, thats about it. One is starting to bud, the other i have removed the buds, and topped it, to try to force more vegetative growth. I have never grown reaper peppers before, but i currently have 15 other verities of peppers growing great with none of them giving me these same issues. Most of the others i have started from seeds i got from a reputable dealer. The others i got at Home Depot garden center. The seedling plants i have are a little over a month old and already bigger and bushier than these reaper plants. The Home Depot ones are about a month older than the reaper plants and im already harvesting quite a bit. Including some super hot slow growers. I think this will be my last time buying any plants on amazon. I dont know if there was a mixup and i was sent a different pepper plant or what. I will continue to grow these plants to fruit, mostly out of boredom and curiosity, and update then. Update: about a month has gone by, and these little plants are getting nice and big. Lots of leaves, no flowers yet but im not expecting to see those for another month or 2. I have been having no issues with these little reaper pepper plants. So far so good. Got the plants 2 days earlier than expected, on my birthday none the less. Happy Bday to me!! They looked good for a mail order plant. Soil was still moist, but not soaked. There were large wooden dowels supporting the box so the plants would not be crushed. I let them sit and dry a little for about 48 hrs prior to transplanting, after they went in to their new home "a home depot bucket filled with cactus soil/ potting soil mix", i gave them a good dosage of fertilizer and a good watering. A week later and they are already almost double the size of when they got here. If they keep growing like this they will catch up to my habanero plant that had a 2 month headstart. So far they are great little plants, and im looking forward to a blistering hot harvest this fall/ early winter. I would give this a 5 star rating, but i want to see how the yield is before that. Will update in a few months with pics of the flowers/fruits. If you are hesitant on buying there, just do it. They are fun to grow, im planning on making lots of hotsauce for friends and family for xmas this year.
