A: As long as the hasp, or loop of the latch is no thicker than 2mm, should be OK. Small moneybox or petty cash box padlock should be fine. Can get those via stationary suppliers.

this wooden chest is equipped with two sturdy hinges on the back. These provide stability.

A: I think it's some form of treated compression board. It's sturdy though.

It’s a nice size chest and with a bit of organising I could get most of my spell work items in. It looks great and antique but I’ve dropped a star because the quality is not the best. It’s lightweight plywood, the lock doesn’t really lock the chest, it’s just aesthetic, some of the nails are loose and it has some kind of black greasy residue on it which I think has been used to ‘age it’ but it did get on my hands. Overall it’s ok for the size and price and will do for the use I have for it.
